Do you need passport or is birth certifcate and drivers license ok?
BellaItaliana replied to becksnky's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
You need a passport to get back into the U.S. from Mexico. I'm having my surgery with Dr. Aceves, and here is the paragraph from the information they sent me: "Passports are now required to get back into the US after traveling to Mexico. If your passport has not arrived, proof that you have applied for it along with your birth certificate and ID (driver’s license) are enough to let you get back into the US. Remember you can also expedite your passport. " -
I've been doing the same thing. My surgery is on Aug 17th, so I'm two weeks away, and about two weeks ago I started eating horribly! Just fattening stuff, and more than I need to eat. I'm sure I've gained weight in this last two weeks, and I refuse to get on the scale and check. I also keep telling myself I won't be able to eat this stuff again... but I know that is just an excuse. My doctor wants me to do a low carb, high protein pre-op diet for 7 days before surgery. I've decided to start it tomorrow so I'm doing it almost two weeks before surgery. I think that's the only way I'm going to get my eating somewhat under control. Does your doctor want you to do a pre-op diet?

August sleevers?
BellaItaliana replied to katie75009's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am on August 17th with Dr. Aceves. So I'll still be in my room when you get there for your surgery. My name is Alicia if you want to stop by. :-) -
Mooregirl, I'm actually really happy to hear that. I have bad migraines as well, and can easily get a migraine if I go too long without eating. My surgery is in about two weeks, and I've been very worried that the first couple weeks post-op will be torture b/c of hunger induced headaches. You're saying this didn't happen to you?

Dr Acevez, Dr Ortiz or Dr Alvarez?
BellaItaliana replied to Vetniemeer's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Oh okay, good. Nina is very responsive to email. The first time I emailed for information, she got back to me in 45 minutes and it was a Sunday evening! Good luck with your search. In about 19 days, I'll be able to give you a first-hand account. Yikes! :-) -
Dr Acevez, Dr Ortiz or Dr Alvarez?
BellaItaliana replied to Vetniemeer's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Honestly not sure if I'm supposed to do this or this website or not, but I'll try. I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr. Aceves on August 17th, and have been communicating with Nina in his office. Here is her information. I just copied and pasted it out of one of her emails. Also, if you just email through the website, she contacts you directly. Hi there, I have not yet had my surgery yet, but I am scheduled for Aug 17th with Dr. Aceves. I did some research and I can only tell you why I decided to go with Aceves.... I'm sure others have their own reasons. He is more expensive than some of the other Mexican doctors, it's true. But I decided to go with him because of his stats (very low complication rate, and high weight loss rate), and also the fact that I will be staying in the hospital for three days after the surgery. Some of the other doctors have you stay in a hotel after surgery and they come check on you. I was uneasy about going to Mexico (and honestly, never in a million years thought I'd consider it), but after doing a bunch of research I realized there are some very safe options down there. At least no riskier than many American facilities. Also, just one more factor, I live in California and Aceves was convenient for me geographically... although that is by far not the biggest reason I chose him. There are plenty of people on these forums who chose the other doctors and were happy with their surgeries. I will for sure be posting after I have mine, and can give a first-hand experience account. But for now, those are the reasons I decided to go with Aceves.
