Well, I have a slipped band and am currently unfilled. While I'm still grieving the loss of my band, I also have to start thinking about my future. I haven't been as successful as I would have hoped with my band, so I'm thinking of revising to a procedure that also has malabsoprtion. I could get the RNY in 6-8 weeks, but I'm leaning towards the DS which would require switching surgeons and could mean up to a 6 month wait. I'm also terrified of regaining weight while I'm unfilled and waiting for another procedure. Has anyone here revised to the DS? Does anyone have any words of wisdom about dealing with the disappointment and fear of having their band removed?

Can a slip resolve itself over the long term?
healthierme8 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
About 6 weeks ago I ended up in the ER and had a complete unfill. I'm now told that at the time my band had slipped. However, with the unfill, I'm not having any problems and am told my band is in the right place. Is it really possible for a slip to repair itself over the long term? My surgeon is going to slowly refill me under floroscopy to see what happens. But, I'm worried that if it slipped before, it's likely to slip again when it gets refilled. Is this a valid fear or me just worrying needlessly? -
I'm sorry you were treated that way. I would rather drive two hours to see a good doctor than 5 minutes to see one who's so rude and unprofessional. Also, fill and restriction do seem to be a very tricky thing. Good luck in getting everything figured out!

I don't have much to add beyond what's been said, but I just want you to know you're not alone. I took up sewing to try to combat some of my boredom eating. But, I still found myself the other day making a poor food choice because I was upset about something else. For me, it continues to be a battle. Good luck!

Honestly? I've kept one small box of my favorites. But, I'm thinking about having kids some day, so it's quite possible I'll fit back into at least some of them for a period of time. I do agree with the other poster that it can be liberating (and helpful for others in need) to get rid of the clothes you no longer need!

Duke Hospital in NC
healthierme8 replied to Kathy1991's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Kathy! The surgeons who work with Duke actually operate out of Durham Regional Hospital. I had my surgery with them 6/19/07. Feel free to email me at healthierme(at)gmail(dot)com if you'd like. -
Incision Question-picture warning
healthierme8 replied to healthierme8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the advice and encouragement to go ahead and call. I called this morning. They said to use a pin and draw a circle around it. If it gets larger, I should go to the ER. I certainly hope it's not an infection, but if it is, I want to take care of it ASAP. -
Incision Question-picture warning
healthierme8 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:help:I had surgery on Tuesday, and its now Friday night. My largest incision (which is about the size of my pointer finger and is much longer than I was expecting) seems to have developed redness around it. I don't have a fever, and it isn't ozzing anything. I looked at my discharge instructions from the hosptial and they don't mention this as a reason to call the office. Did anyone else have this redness? How long did it take to go away? Do you think I should call the doctor?
