My insurance required that I see a personal trainer pre-op. They only required one visit and it was not covered by insurance. The personal trainer wasn't very helpful because she had not dealt with people with Fibromyalgia [pwf] before but she did give me an information packet on exercise. I will upload the package here. Hope others find this packet helpful. Page one is on stretching. The personal trainer recommended stretching before and after exercise.

I have severe Fibromyalgia and because of the pain I did not work out. My insurance required that I see a personal trainer pre-op. She did not want me to exercise without the approval of a physical therapist. She did give me a package of exercise to show my physical therapist. The physical therapist modified the exercises and I went to therapy for 3 months and now I do the exercises at home. I started 1 month after surgery. You can find the handouts on my blog by clicking here. I've been scanning and uploading the package from the personal trainer. You don't need a gym. I use exercise bands, canned vegetables and Water bottles instead of weights. I've been hinting to my children that I would like a set of 1, 3 and 5 pound dumbbells for Christmas

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Pre-surgery
FibroDiva replied to 1Day1Life4Now's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with LindarfromFlorida. Pre-surgery I battled Fibromyalgia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I've given up sugar, even though I bake lots of cakes and Cookies for family members. I haven't had any IBS problems post-op. As I re-introduce food into my diet I am discovering what my stomach does not like, fried foods, spicy foods. Take it one day at a time. When you get to the point that you are re-introducing food, try a new food when you are not straying away from home. That way if you have an incident, you are safe within your own home. -
Fibromyalgia, Pain, Holidays and Weight Loss
FibroDiva posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is not going to be a pain-free Christmas. The first ghost of Christmas, Fibro Fog, came to visit yesterday and I ruined a whole batch of Rum Balls. Last night the second ghost, Insomnia, moved in and I spent all night starring at the ceiling. This morning the third ghost, pain began unpacking. I'm so stiff and exhausted I can't get out of bed or even fathom moving about or exercising. I'm too exhausted to think about a Christmas day menu or shopping or cooking. Well I guess I don't have to worry about gaining any weight. This Chicago weather is beating me up. ~Sabrina.-

Don't Let Fibro Sabotage Your Weight Loss
FibroDiva posted a blog entry in Fibro Diva's Bariatric Blog
When I finally made the decision to go ahead with WLS, the first person I talked to was my Fibro Doctor. He did a work up on me to make sure that my thyroid was working probably and even now, 3 months post-op, still monitors my thyroid. He explained to me that as a person with Fibromyalgia I have a risk of developing thyroid problems and this would counteract any benefits I reap from WLS. Here is a great article on Fibromyalgia's affects on weight. -
Don't Let Fibro Sabotage Your Weight Loss
FibroDiva commented on FibroDiva's blog entry in Fibro Diva's Bariatric Blog
Well as the weather gets colder, I find that my Fibro is keeping me bedridden and unable to exercise. -
I'm kind of frustrated. I've lost nearly 50 pounds since starting the pre-op program. Pre-op clothes that fit perfectly are falling off me. Pre-op clothing that was too tight are fitting just right. So yesterday I want shopping for some fall and winter clothing and the only thing that fit was in my pre-op clothing size. :-( What gives. I never really liked shopping at LB but now I'm wondering is there something fishy with their sizing policy.

Tornadoes, Pain, And Emotional Eating
FibroDiva replied to FibroDiva's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did it. I made it through the turmoil and aftermath of the tornado where my daughter lives. My so drove me down to Peoria for the holiday. I did all the cooking and did not do any taste testing. I let everyone else do it. When it came time to eat, I used the baby's sliverware to make my plate. I only got down one bite of everything for Thanksgiving dinner and then had the rest for lunch on Black Friday. We then went shopping on Black Friday and I completed all my shopping. Now for the drive back to Chi-town. I know I will go into a flare but I am proud I did not give into the desire for emotional eating. :-) -
Yesterday an EF4 tornado ripped through the area where my daughter, her husband and infant live. Click here to see a picture of the area around the news station where my daughter is Executive producer and her husband is a teleprompter technician. They were not home or at work, they were upstate visiting his mother where an EF3 tornado touched down. Everyone is ok but I spent all day fighting the urge to eat out of stress and worry. It took my daughter and her family 6 hours to get back home, normally 2 1/2 trip, driving through debris and high winds. Even though they are home safe and sound, even though their home sustained no damage, I am still worried and struggling with the need for emotional eating. As a person with Fibromyalgia, I've noticed that changes in weather, especially barimetric pressure, make my pain and fatigue worse. All last week I had terrible insomina. I was up walking the halls at night because I could not sleep or get comfortable. Now I just want to eat my worries away, luckily [i guess] I cannot binge. I know eating is not going to help my daughter. I know that overeating will only make me sick, but old habits are soooooo hard. How are others out there handling the desire for emotional eating?

Heeeelllllp!!!! This is my first holiday post op. My family is from New Orleans so we start cooking the Sunday before Thanksgiving. My daughter lives in Peoria, IL in the area hit by last week's tornado. The family is traveling to her to support her, her fiance and their 1 year old daughter. They were not hurt physically and did not suffer any damage to their home but the work at the local news station and have been under a lot of emotional stress. I am nervous because all my life the only way my family has celebrated the good times, and shown strength thru the bad times is by eating. My family actually is insulted when one does not partake with large bowls of gumbo and plates of turducken, etc. etc. I have stopped testing the food as i cook it but what do I do when it is time to sit down and pass the plate?

it was hard but this is what I ate: the tur part of turducken, honey baked ham, sweet potatoes, homemade mac n cheese, green beans, gumbo and some of nephew Darren's peach crack [i mean cobbler]. Actually, I think I manged to get one bite of each item for Thanksgiving dinner and the other bite for Black Friday lunch.
