Anyone else out there with Locs? I've noticed something strange about mine. They are growing but they seem to be thinner. Any suggestions or comments?

Gastric Sleeve and MRIs

I've had an MRI post surgery. I simply told the tech before hand, there was no problem. -
Look what i found to make pre-op shakes just a little better.

One day post-op, I was eating with my granddaughter and got silly. I was full and looked at Victoria, she had spaghetii all over her so I decided, "if I can't eat it, I'll just wear it!"© www.facebook.com/fibrodiva

Sometimes you just gotta laugh to keep from crying. So whenever something weight loss and/or chronic pain/Fibromyalgia hits me, and I remember, I will post it here.- 1 reply

another 'new' weight loss device
FibroDiva commented on dylanmiles23's blog entry in dylanmiles23's Blog
Doesn't sound like either of these devices, the tongue patch or the balloon, do anything to teach good eating habits so when they are removed won't the people regain any weight loss? Sounds like the only thing guaranteed to be permanently loss is money. -

As a Fibromyalgia/chronic pain and heart condition sleever, I still have to take a plethora of medication. Luckily my Fibro and cardiac docs were able to prescribe liquid versions of all my medications. WLS and Self-perception
FibroDiva commented on FibroDiva's blog entry in Fibro Diva's Bariatric Blog
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually have an appointment next week and never thought about talking to the doctor about this issue. -
Quick drastic weight loss is a strange experience. Don't get me wrong, I was fully prepared, after all it took over 10 years to finally break down and undergo surgery. After all the research, doctor's visits, and support groups/forums, I was prepared buuuuttt. I'm having trouble moving into the "skinny mindset". I eat like a skinny person, I don't have a choice since 95% of my stomach is gone. I'm becoming active like a skinny person with Fibromyalgia [there's only so much you can do with Fibro]. The problem is clothing. I still see myself as fat and think I should wear larger clothing. That's where having lots of children [young adults] in one's life helps. After being teased for wearing clothing that is too big [even though it is smaller than what I use to wear], I broke down and purchased items from stores I would have never dreamed I could patronize, Express, Old Navy, J C Penny, Victoria's Secret. Everyone thinks I look great but I feel they are too small. Oh well, I guess my self-perception will catch up with the physical as time goes by.

Afraid to tell the kids
FibroDiva replied to irishcailin68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Point out the potential health hazards you are currently facing. My children were actually the ones that convinced me, I had mini stroke in 2007 and then two more in 2012. They did an intervention and brought together all the grandchildren and had them rehearse, "we love you YaYa and want you around to see our children!" Once your family realize that you are doing it for health and not simply looks, they hopefully should be more supportive. -

Winter, Fibro, and Weight Loss
FibroDiva commented on FibroDiva's blog entry in Fibro Diva's Bariatric Blog
Wish me luck. I'm venturing out into the cold to meet with the personal trainer at Planet Fitness. I don't need luck with the personal trainer, I need luck venturing out into the cold with Fibromyalgia. -
I gave myself and my daughter post-Christmas presents, memberships at Planet Fitness. Since I don't drive and PF allows you to bring a guest, my son gets one by association - he will be my driver. The problem is that with this extreme cold weather, my fibro has been in overdrive. I don't like to go out when it is really cold because it aggravates my pain so I've been following the exercises set up by my pre-op personal trainer and my post-op physcial therapist.

For once I can say that I am happy to be an over 50 person with Fibromyalgia. My Fibro doc has been after me to get into physical therapy. My insurance required me to see a personal trainer prior to my surgery. The personal trainer gave me a list of exercises that smack of physical therapy so I gave in and started PT about a month after surgery. I've been gradually increasing my activity level and can see improved strength and stamina, and, others say I am winning the battle of the flab. I will work to upload the handouts that the personal trainer and physical therapist pass onto me. Hope they will be of assistance to others here.

Does anyone here regret having VSG? What about unexpected changes?
FibroDiva replied to niassy151's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
no regrets. I wasn't prepared for the loss of my baby cheeks and my "girls" but digging out old pictures I realized there was a time when I did have either. I am healthier now and that is what matters. I have noticed that now I spend my spare time at old hobbies, crochet, jewelry making, and even cake decorating [family eats the cakes]. -
sleeve and arthritis
FibroDiva replied to hopeful2 be slim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease cervical and lumbar, siatica, and cervical stenosis. I had my sirgery Aug 01, 2013. My pain doc ordered physical therapy to begin Sep 01. I went to PT until Dec 31. My pain doc also ordered liquid versions of all my medication. If you can, go to physical therapy and use a recumbent bike first and build up to walking on the treadmill next. -
Nail polish off before surgery?
FibroDiva replied to Sydney Lynn Pinckley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
they made me remove polish from both fingers and toes. I got a mani-pedi with no polish as a compromise. they used the monitor on the finger but still wanted no polish. -

Well, I must have been a Fibro Fog because I forgot about the Fibromyalgia/Chronic Pain Sleevers Forum. I've been posting on my blog. Now that the blogs are down, I realize I should have been posting here also. Anyway, I've been busy catching up on Fibro and I recently attended the Fibromyalgia Health and Healing retreat hosted by the Fibromyalgia Coalition International in Excelsior Springs, MO. This was a three day event. Day One of the Fibromyalgia Health and Healing Retreat was interesting. There were motivational speakers who talked about their personal journey to health. There was a music therapist who conducted an active presentation and demonstrated how we can use music as a form of biofeedback. Day Two of the Retreat was just as informative and fun as day one. There was a nutrition workshop that reopened my eyes about the fact that we are truly what we eat. It made me realize that I have been having rebounding affects brought on by my diet. You see, I'm one of those people who will follow a healing diet, eliminate those things that I have sensitivities or allergies to, get to feeling better and then go back to eating what was making me sick and wonder why I'm having flares. This was an ah-ah moment for me. As a Fibromyalgia/Chronic Pain Sleever, I've finally moved into the soft food phase and I've been eating a lot of mashed potatoes. Potatoes belong to a group of food called nightshades. Speakers at the retreat pointed out that nightshades induce pain in people with Fibromyalgia and various forms of arthritis. My group then went off for relaxing massages and dips in the hot tub and dry sauna. Day two ended with a gala dinner and a bidding war over a hot/cold therapy basket during the auction between my sister and me. We got all the way up to $95 dollars and someone else placed the winning bid at $105. It was fun and now I'm just going to have to make myself [and my sister] baskets for Christmas. Day Three of the Retreat was a gourment cooking demonstration. Dr. Gloria Gilbere [Dr. G.] made a nightshade free Gnocchi. This Gnocchi was made of squash and cornmeal. It tasted like a tamale and was a little heavy for me but my sister and and friend Rosemary liked it.
