Do you ever get frustrated with band babies?
Chickie replied to TamifromAL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
ROFLMAO Can't. Breathe. Going. To. Die.... -
Oh, I get you. Trust me I do. There was a thread, a long time ago, where I mentioned that in my pre band days my husband and I could eat 3 or more large pizza's, garlic bread and coke, and still not be full. I got nothing but disbelief! I was close on 300lbs. How the hell did I get to that weight without some serious over eating and lack of exercise? It comes down to owning behaviours, accepting them and changing them (if need be)

Now I am scared! Has my band slipped? Can you tell me if It has? -
See that's the thing (I think). I am out "Living my life" and when I do get some internet time, I don't want to be told that I couldn't possibly know what it's like to be overweight, or that it's OK for me to go out and exercise, because I am thin (how do 'ya think I got that way??) That's why the self righteous, obnoxious, condescending "oldies" get pissed off and don't bother coming back.

Yep, that old "People at goal don't post much because they are off living their lives" chestnut is just horse shit. We get bullied out of the way by people who don't want to face reality. And we represent reality. We did what it took to get to where they want to be. I have to admit that until I got to know a few ladies here really well, I was about to become one of the fabled who are out living their lives. But, I am glad I stayed on, because it really is a benefit to me to see others making strides, reaching goals and becoming what they want to be. It helps to remind me just how far I have come, when I see their stories, and successes. Yup. Gotta agree with LJM. I wish I could just follow you around at times and say "yeah, that" and be done with it.

It will only get worse as time goes on. I have been at goal for well over a year, yet get talked to like I have had my head stuck firmly up my ass and know nothing about banded life. What it comes down to, is some people only want to hear what they want to hear, the truth be dammed. And if they want to hear that the band will do all the work, no will power or work required, that PB'ing daily is no big deal, that 2 teaspoons of food at a sitting is "proper restriction", and that exercise really isn't necessary to lose weight, nothing anyone can say will change that mind set. I have given up trying. I hang out at LBT to encourage, and be encouraged by the guys and gals who I see working their asses off in an attempt to build a better life for themselves, and their families.

That is NOT what I am saying at all. I am saying it is irresponsible for a country to take in a person that they KNOW will cost their tax payers money, in the short, or long term. Setting a BMI limit to prevent obesity related expense is a sound financial move.
-
The article said they were trying to immigrate to NZ. My point is (I am feeling really sick today, so I mightn't be as clear with my thoughts as I think I am being) that an obese person is a burden on a publicly funded health care system. So I totally understand a country who has more than enough obese people of it's own to look after denying a citizenship to this lady.
-
I am not sure if NZ is like Australia (I have a feeling our medical systems are very, very similar) But if it is a carbon copy of ours, the "system" actually does pay toward banding, bypass, DS, and the VSG. Not to mention, if said obese person gets ill with an obesity related condition (diabetes, high BP, has a heart attack, or stroke ect) the "system" automatically pays for the medical care, with nothing out of pocket if they are a public patient. That could be hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of a lifetime. That is a huge financial burden for the tax payers. And "paying their own way" just isn't an option. Because once a citizen, you are entitled to health care.

another ignore question ...

Good stuff. I'd hate to think that nasty people are PM'ing you over that. I have to admit, I looked at the word Nymph and thought Nymph-o. But, I do have the maturity of a 16 year old, and the libido of a 13 year old boy, so what I think, and find funny isn't always worth hearing... But it's usually amusing. -

Please, don't tell me people are getting upset about that, and PM'ing you about it... -

People keep talking about this "search function" but I just can't find it! While I have your attention. I ate pizza last night, but PB'd most of it up, and now my farts smell like pepperoni. Am I going to be ok? Have I damaged my band? -

The answer for me is, the band made it easier to give crappy food up. Now, after close on 3 years, I just prefer to eat better, more nutritious food, my taste has changed. Yeah, there is an element of will power, but baby, the band ain't going to do everything for me! -
another ignore question ...

I was kidding! (hugg) I know what it's like to be all hormonal and overly emotional because of it. It sucks. It really does. And someone always tries to stir the pot at that exact moment it seems, and I end up with a couple of new residents for my ignore list. PM me if you need an "ear". -

See, I knew there was a reason LJM hadn't returned me PM's! -
Don't look at me!!!!
Chickie replied to angelsoul's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That was me. I stand out because I have a "big" personality, so when you get into a conversation with me, you notice me, but really when I walk into a room, no one really looks at me twice. I am just another chick walking into the room. I enjoy it actually. -
I was always obnoxious, self-righteous and condescending. But I can see how people who don't know me from "before" could see this as a new thing.
-
I understand why they didn't let her in. Why would a country that pays for the basic health care of it's citizens, willingly take in someone who will cost their tax payers in the form of obesity related treatments?

No. I haven't forgotten. As I am sure that the other ladies here will never forget how far they have come. It's not something that you can push to the back of your mind. When we see questions asked in the form of a new thread half a dozen times or more a week, it tends to get a bit old answering the question. And a lot of us "Oldies" do tend to ignore them (I'll put my hand up to not answering questions). We do have a very handy search feature that is free for everyone to use, as well as a "FAQ" thread as a sticky in (I think) the General section. So it's not like the information is not out there to find, it's just a matter of having a look around first before posting a thread like "What's a PB / How do I get a signature / How do I get a ticker?" And I will agree 100% with LJM. Some people are NOT looking for advice. They are looking for a way to justify behaviour. -
Eh, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck, right? I both quack and walk like an athlete (but mostly like a duck), so therefore I am. I think.
