Attending school while losing
Jack4468 replied to Mama Spike's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my VSG surgery on Tuesday and will be back at school next Tuesday and college itself is pretty flexible. Highest weight was 335, day of surgery 278.5 and three days later I am already at 267.9. I think going to school even at my age (45) is good because it helps keep you motivated while being around younger students! -
Hi guys, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. The thing is that I only have to do a Pre-op liquid diet 48 hours prior to surgery, not one or two weeks. I think however that I am going to do one anyway two weeks before surgery just to get myself balanced again. Wish all of you luck with your results. Jack

Hello, I am still fairly new to this forum even though I have posted a couple of topics and had some great feedback. I am hoping this is the proper thread to be asking this question since it pertains to overeating because I need some help? Okay, I recently got my VSG date which is Nov 19th which I am very excited for. However, ever since I decided to take this path and during the testing phases and waiting you have to go through prior to surgery, I have been pigging out!! Thank god I have only gained five pounds in the last couple of months but ever since I decided to have the WLS, my mind and body are going crazy. Has anyone had these similar experiences? And if so, what helped you slow back down to normal prior to surgery? James

Hello, I am not actually having my VSG till the end of next month but was wondering if any of you have watched VSG success and/or stories on Youtube? I enjoy this forum very much but as a pre-op, I find their stories to be quite encouraging, realistic and helpful. What do you think? James

Hi Ladylaura, I totally understand what the "Last Supper" mentality is all about and that is how I have been feeling for the longest time but now that I think about it, I have had enough last suppers to last me a thousand life times!!

Hi, I know it's kind of a weird topic but it make sense if you are Pre-op like myself. I am getting all of my tests and paperwork squared away and will have my surgery by the end of next month. However, when I started the process, I noticed I have eaten out a lot more like I am trying to get it all in since I will be living a completely different lifestyle once surgery is complete! Has this happened to anyone? Thanks!

Hello Everyone, Thank you all for the helpful replies and advice, it's nice to know that I am not the only one who went through this and that this can be considered a normal phase. I have not gained any weight from this ordeal and am getting so burned out eating the same crap that I am actually not missing it at all now and look forward to the change. I have maintained my weight of 270 for a year now and hence the reason for the surgery. My starting weight was 335 in December 2011 and lost 65 pounds on my own by the end of summer 2012. The key for me was to stop drinking pop and a lot of other food I was eating to maintain that sugar high fell by the wayside. Have not touched pop since and honestly don't miss it. Now I drink 6 bottles of water per day. Maintaining weight loss has been easy for me since I am always active but the surgery will help push my body in the right direction again. I hope all of you are doing well with your post-op situation. James

Congrats!! It's nice to read positive results of post-op's and look forward to getting mine done next month. The running has me very interested as well and have started jogging myself. Of course, it will be a lot easier following some weight loss,

Thank you all very much for the quick replies and the advice! God, I hope I don't have to crush them but if I do, the jello and yogurt is a good idea. Ellie, congrats on your surgery and good luck on your weight loss!! I can't wait to get mine done next month. Jack

Hi, I hope this is the right area for this question! Anyway, I was wanting to know if it is okay to take your medications following surgery? I take three capsules of Meds every morning that I have to take or I lose my mind kind of thing lol. Will these capsules be safe to take following surgery in their proper form? I could not imagine having to pop open the capsules and put them in water! Thanks in advance. Jack
