Did everyone have to go on a diet before surgery?
Annie0341 replied to MissMe27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm near the end of week 1 on my 4 week Medifast diet. Shakes only, 5 a day or 500 calories. It is by far the toughest thing I have ever had to do. I have not cheated and so far have lost 10#. I just can't imagine 3 more weeks.BLAH!I just keep making myself see the long term goals. -
Need gallbladder surgery before lapband surgery
Annie0341 replied to DaMomb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr will remover the gallbladder at the same time as placing the band if necessary. Hope all is well. -

Medifast shakes...OH MY!!!
Annie0341 replied to Annie0341's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks....I'll take all the support I can get!! I'm not allowed anything other than the shakes, but I see they do have other meal options. 5 weeks...I feel your pain!! Be strong -
Hi everyone! Well today was a big day, I began my 4 weeks of Medifast shakes...5 per day for a whopping intake of 500 calories a day! So far I have had 3, one chocolate (of course) one orange cream and a strawberry. Blah blah and blah LOL!! Oh and the best part is I have to add 2 tablespoons of canola or olive oil to one a day so my gallbladder has something to do!Nice oily taste in my mouth! The nurse told me if I lose a lot this week she may let me have a piece of turkey and a spoonfull of veggies on T-day! Ok it's not much, but I'll make that goal #1, this is going to be one long month. I can't understand why some Drs don't require any pre-op diets and mine is so drastic!!! Oh well.....I also had my psych eval today. It was about 10 minutes long! He said I was an "excellent candidate"...so does that mean I'm not crazy?!?! I may not be now, but at the end of these four weeks I'll be somewhat insane!! Good luck to all on the journey!

Everyone is very different. For me I start 4 weeks of Medifast shakes this tuesday the 18th. My surgery is Dec 18th. I'm sure as you get closer you will get all the information that you need. Good luck!!

Annie0341 replied to jester's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi John, Greetings from your neck of the woods! I am scheduled for surgery on 12/18 at Ellis Hosp. Tuesday I start the 4 weeks of Medifast. It's been a long journey, but I have learned so much along the way, mostly from this very site. I wish you the best Your Adirondack neighbor, -
What's everyone eating on Thanksgiving?
Annie0341 replied to Catherine55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A Medifast shake for me!! My surgery is 12/18 and I'll be on my pre-op. YEAH -
Tuesday I start 4 weeks of medifast shakes and I am dreading it. But I am telling myself that it's just another step in the right direction. It took me years to get this size and a few weeks of blah is a small price to pay to start getting rid of it. WE CAN DO THIS!!
-
Hi My surgery is 12/18,and I start 4 weeks of Medifast next Tuesday. In a strange way I am looking forward to it, kind of makes it all seem real finally. I do know that I will be having just a bite or two of turkey though on Thanksgiving! Then it's back to business! Good luck to you...

Psych Eval...WAY too long, WAY WAY too long
Annie0341 replied to MMS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, everyones experience is so different! I am scheduled for my psych eval on 11/18 (surgery 12/18). I was told a 1/2 hour for the actual appt, then 15 mins or so for the dr to type the report....aka "is she or isn't she crazy"? My biggest fear is that my fear will make me sound nuts. I have no clue what to expect, but it is a good part of the process. -
Any December '08 Bandsters?
Annie0341 replied to Florida Pete's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! December 18th at noon for me! 4 fun weeks of medi-fast starts 11/18.....give me strength:tongue_smilie: LOL!! -
Hi all, Well it looks like no Christmas dinner for me!! Unless it's the drinkable kind! I met with the surgeon yesterday and her schedule has an opening for December 18th and the next one Jan 7th....they will mail my packet with my official date later this week!! I am so excited, all of the waiting and now were actually making progress. I had my bloodwork drawn yesterday, and I need to call the psychologist back since they called today while I was at work. Four weeks of Medifast prior to dosen't sound like fun, but I will give 100%. Take care

Hi everyone.... I made the fist call to the Ellis Bariatric Center back in July. I was placed in the seminar on Sept 4th, it was informative, but I already had my mind made up. Then two more weeks pass and I receive the call saying my meeting with the surgeon is on Oct 27th.....ugh another long wait! So that is now almost here and I am wondering how much longer from that point? I know I have all of the pre-op appointments to get through, but I am so not a patient patient LOL!!! Anyone? Thanks, and good luck all...

Such a loooooong process!!!!
Annie0341 replied to Annie0341's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for the encouragement! No, I won't quit...I want this more than anything. I am a nurse and we nurses make awful patients!! After the surgical consult I really have no idea how much longer.....we;ll have to stick together!!! -
Upset and ready to give up
Annie0341 replied to SusanR62's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Susan... Sorry for all you are dealing with. I have to ask since we are in pretty much the same area, are you going through Ellis Hosp? If so I guess I best be prepared Good luck to you Annie -
Hi everyone! I finally feel like the process has begun! I was first scheduled for my seminar with the surgeon in April, but I kind of had cold feet and cancelled. I made another appt and it was tonite. It was interesting, but I must admit I really didn't learn anything new since I have been visiting this great site for some time now! I turned in all necessary paperwork and should get a call from the office in a week or two. I have known for a long time that this was the way to go for me, now I'm just more anxious than ever. I want to thank all of you for the wonderful advice and knowledge that I have gotten to get me to this point. Let the journey begin!!

I have been waiting almost 3 months for my seminar date to arrive, finally it's this Thursday~I wish I could just skip it all together however, since I have had my mind made up 100% for sometime already. It's a requirement with the Drs office however. I am just so anxious to get things in motion, esp that damn scale LOL!

I am still awaiting my band, however have an odd question~sorry! I'm a nurse and at work tonite I had a patient become sick and vomit. What can happen to your band if you get ill? We all can get the flu, do banders vomit normally? Can the force cause the bad to shift? Again, sorry, but I couldn't help but wonder.

Going to my first seminar 8/19
Annie0341 replied to stitchntime's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Stitch.... I am also awaiting my seminar on Sept 4th. I have so far been cleared by my PCP, I am not quite the 100 lbs over but have high BP and cholesterol. I am wondering what the purpose of the seminar is myself as I have already made up my mind to move ahead with this. Good luck to you~! -
Hi everyone, I am in the beginning stages of the process-just received approval from my PCP. Anyhow, I love reading all of your posts and comments. I have learned sooo much (thank you). I am wondering what helped you make the decision between the band and bypass surgery? For myself I work with a bypass patient and to be honest in the year since her procedure she has wasted away, she really looks pretty sickly. So seeing her journey sealed the decicion for me. How about the rest of you? Thanks again for all the great advice, and I know as my time comes nearer I will be begging you for more! Good luck...
