I thought popcorn was off limits? Something about the kernel not breaking down. Every doctors guidelines are so different.

My sleep study was done in one night, at my house. I picked up this crazy gizmo and did the study, the next day I dropped the machine back at my doctors. then a week or so later I got the results. yep, I had sleep apnea. I got my own home machine and had one more appt with my sleep doctor before surgery to look at my machine memory card. I still use my machine. I sleep better with it. So there were 3 appts pre op. Good luck. I was told by my doctor using a cpap before surgery reduced the risk of respiratory failure. I even had to bring it to the hospital.

A plateau at 3 weeks out? What gives?
jdwstmn replied to ChefEm624's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the same thing! My doctor said it will happen more than once. He said my body will re adjust and I will lose again...and I did. Just stick with your plan. Your body is saying ”what the heck” and wants to hang on to the reserves. -
No complications, weight about 244 age 29. Stayed 2 nights in the hospital. Glad I did too. I had 2 under 3 waiting for me at home. I got to sleep all day! 2 nights was covered in my self pay package, so I wanted to use them up

Worried about Quality of Life PostOp
jdwstmn replied to the-Russ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I get it. My family was my biggest motivation. Im down 32lbs in 9 Weeks. Post op was not a breeze for me as compared to other stories I read. But I also have a 3 and one year old. Now I feel good. I actually just had a party at my house, and a different night we went to my in laws house for dinner. I ate what everyone else ate. Just a smaller amount then the old me. being anxious is normal. It is a big surgery, trust your doctor, and maybe write down why you want the surgery so if you have doubts, you can look at the pros and cons. For me I was more nervous about the actual surgery. And now I still get nervous about not meeting my goal weight. Im 29, started at 256, today 224. I can tell you, I feel good and more confident in myself. My husband and kids love me no matter what my weight. But I feel better in my skin. And I feel like I will live a healthier life and avoid all the aliments that I was destined for. On the post op side now, I can say, thus far, no regrets -
I am 9 Weeks out, down 32lbs. I still worry that I wont hit my goal weight. I can tell you that you can not eat the portions you ate before. It is painful to eat too fast or too much. Every time I eat, I think about it. Not because it is a habit, but you feel it. I don't eat mindlessly. Because I eat so much less now, what I eat is a lot more important to me. Protein first, always. Yes, I've had cookies. But not a bag full, 2 little cookies. And that's all I needed. I went a couple Weeks and gained a pound! But my body re adjusted and I am back to losing. Being scared or anxious is normal. The sleeve is what you make it, it will not cure you, it is a tool. I have to re program my brain and my relationship with food. It won't happen overnight, but neither did the weight gain. Trust your doctor and when the pounds start coming off, you'll be so happy, eating crap food doesn't sound so great. It motivates me.

I was told 100Mg of colace and I was still taking miralax. I had not had a bm in 9 days. The colace and miralax worked within 24 hours. I had to stay close to the bathroom. But it worked

I am day 9, post op. Broth got boring quick. I just bought Lipton cup of soup. Strain any noodles, chunks. Also, my dietitian says healthy request tomato soup is good. Haven't tried it yet. What about yogurt? It helps break up the monotony. I like oikos greek. Protein powder wears on me, premier Protein Drink from costco, are what I drink. Still having a hard time getting meals in, I have to have 60g of protein a day.20- 30g is premier Protein shake a day. I am having a hard time with getting 60Oz water in. Starting weight 256 Op date weight 244 As of 3 days ago 234. Only weighing once a week, to avoid getting discouraged.

Hi all. For those who want to stay in the US and have to pay out of pocket. I just had my vsg 9/11/13. I did a ton if research and called lots of doctors. I decided on Dr.Hunter at Virginia Mason. Best decision ever. For me, MX was out. Too far, and difficult to find a doctor to do my follow up care. I paid $16000.00 Which when you factor flights, hotels, and the benefit of being near home, kids, hubby. 16k was a good deal. It covers 2 days in hospital, which I used and 3 months of follow up. Virginia Mason was amazing. Let me tell you, when you are prepping for surgery, I was so thankful to be in a hospital. I was very nervous! The surgeon and his team checked on me everyday, a couple times a day. Nurses were attentive. If Seattle isn't too far for you, consider VM. They did every pre-op test you could think of, seemed overkill, but the more they know, the safer it is. First appt was May2013, surgery September 2013. Overall, not as cheap as MX, but my piece of mind was worth a lot and having my family near to support us with kids, preschool etc. It was worth it. I thought US surgery would have been 30k, but I found a gem, with Dr.Hunter

Whos in September? We need some September buddies!
jdwstmn replied to janie2024's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am September 11th. I start the liquid diet today.... Now things are getting real. I love my surgeon but I am still nervous. I am using unjury protein powder. I like it so far. The tubs aren't that big, especially cause the scoop is huge. Btw, I'm from the Seattle area -

Here is my story, I am a wife, mom, sister and daughter. I am 29 years old. A lover of coffee, and good beer. I currently stay home with our two son's, before that I worked in the construction industry. Which is where I met my hubby, he was my boss...scandal, I know. Although I do not believe in perfection in a general way, my life is very close. I love my family, my marriage (most days), God, even the 2 huge dogs that came with my husband. I would not want to change anything, except... My weight. I have never been labeled a 'string-bean', I was more in the 'big boned' category, or rather 'husky'. I weighed 120lbs in sixth grade. Just to give you an idea. I played sports until I graduated, mostly soccer. I played on select teams so It was a year round thing. When I stopped playing soccer, I gained weight, obviously. It did not help I moved to Seattle and lived in a house with friends and partied all the time. I resorted to diet pills. And crazy diets. My weight was on a roller coaster for years. In 2006 I weighed 150lbs, which I thought I would maintain forever. I had sworn off junk food and vowed to never get so heavy again. Well, I am here aren't I? I met my now husband, we ate, drank, and married. We both gained weight. He stopped soda and added more veggies, and he lost weight super fast. I on the other hand did not. I have been on a the scale incline since. Add two babies, 15 months apart and now this roller coaster hasn't started the down hill part. Now I am here. Somewhere in the 260's. Diabetes, hypertension and the like are knocking on my door. I don't have them yet, but I will if something does not change. My feet ache. Worse than just plain sore. I walk like a 90 year old when I first get up. My knees hurt, my back hurts. I am too young for this. I have tried every diet you have heard of. I lose weight for like a month or two and then I gain it back. I am so fed up with all of it. My aunt had the gastric band a couple years ago. She looks great. The best she has ever looked. I told her how great she looks and her reply was "I wish I would have felt this great in my 30's" I asked if she had any regrets and she said "yes", "I wish I had done it sooner" I started looking into weight loss surgery a year or so ago. I settled on the gastric sleeve, for many reasons. I found a doctor who operates out of a hospital here in Seattle. Our insurance will not cover this so cost was a concern but we ruled out Mexico, again for many reasons. And we found Dr. Hunter. I have met his staff and have done all the 'testing' to qualify for surgery. I meet Dr. Hunter 8/16/13 and my surgery will be September 4th, 2013. There is a lot to come in the following months. I am nervous, excited, and everything in between.
