Weighed myself this morning and was pleasantly surprised to see that my bmi is below 30! My weight loss has been super slow (sleeved Aug 6) and I've plateaued several times, but it seems like i'm finally back on track. Thank god for this surgery and even though I had post op complications (5 days in hospital due to an infection scare), I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

How to measure when eating out?

Yogurt is a good suggestion too! I have to wrap my head around ordering food like a skinny girl. -
How to measure when eating out?

Thanks for the link Jen- this is a great resource! I'm also going to give the plate idea a try. It's my first time eating out post surgery so I'm feeling oddly nervous. -
How to measure when eating out?

i've eaten there in the past, and all their egg dishes are huge. I think they use at least 3-4 eggs. But I suppose I could ask them to make my dish with only 1 egg. Undereating is a good idea, but of course that can bring up questions from my colleagues and waiters like "was there anything wrong with the food?" and "are you feeling ok?" I think i just need to come up with a few clever answers that will shut down their questioning without making me seem ill. -
Does anyone have any ideas on how to eyeball food amounts when eating out? I have a breakfast meeting coming up, and I'm wondering how to figure out how to make sure I don't overeat. I can only eat 1/4 cup max at a time, but it's not as if I can bring my measuring cups to the meeting to make sure I don't go over the amount. At home- I measured out scrambled eggs and then put them in a tiny bowl, but that's not going to be happening at the restaurant. I'm trying to avoid the foaming/queasy feeling that happens when overeating. Socially- I'd be a bit mortified if I had to food makes its way back up.

Did anyone feel like they were going to die?
loftyleo replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I was getting prepped by the nurse for surgery- I started thinking these thoughts and having a mini mental breakdown in my mind. Especially when the nurse asked if I had a living will. I calmly answered "no, am i supposed to?" while thinking in my head "LIVING WILL?! WHY ARE YOU ASKING ME THIS NOW?!! THIS MUST BE A SIGN. OMG WHY AM I DOING THIS??!" Ten minutes later I was on the operating table-super calm and oddly excited and before I knew it I was in recovery and everything was fine. You'll do great! -
Post op- not losing lbs...
loftyleo replied to loftyleo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks for responding- obviously i'm very excited for the sleeve to begin its work! I've been trying to pretend that the numbers on the scale are "fake" numbers for now and the real weight will be revealed in the doc's office during my 2 week check up. Just needed to hear from a few others to make sure I wasn't a lost cause already! -
Hi everyone- Just got sleeved on Aug 6th and I know I shouldn't be focusing on the scale too much right away- but I'm wondering how it's possible not to lose any lbs at this point I'm on a clear liquid diet until Tuesday... so basically apple juice, Water, gatorade, and broth for the past few days. I know I'm not getting enough calories because of the liquids, so how am I not losing any lbs? On the pre-op diet of full liquids, I lost at a pretty good rate (5 lbs over 7 days) so I'm a bit surprised i haven't lost any so far since I was averaging about 700 calories pre-op and now it's probably way lower.

Stories we tell...how do you not "lie" without saying you had WLS?
loftyleo replied to Slurpee_girl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've been thinking about what to tell my social circle as well! I'm totally going to be "lying" to my friends as well. All my friends can eat like horse but remain slim- so its going to be difficult to explain the surgery to them. And the last thing I need or want right now is to explain myself to them I've decided that my explanation is going to be the similar to what others have mentioned- portion control, clean eating, etc, but I'm planning to frame it as just another diet. Something like "Well, I've tried every other diet in the book- now I'm trying out the portion control diet. Who knows if it'll even work?" (while secretly knowing that it'll totally work...hahaaa) I have a history of trying out every diet that's ever been written about - so anyone who knows me won't be too shocked. I also figure most people are too self-involved to keep questioning me (well-i hope that's the case) -

Hey guys! I'm an August 6th-er as well. I just received my surgery date yesterday (I think someone had canceled/rescheduled their sleeve) Super excited! Today was my first day of the liquid diet. It hasn't been as awful as i anticipated. Of course, I'll probably be singing a different tune by Day 3. Awesome to see so many people getting sleeved on the same day.

Question about Post Op ADHD meds
loftyleo replied to loftyleo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much guys! I'll definitely talk to my doc about it. I was just concerned on how big the impact on appetite would be. I didn't consider scheduling my eating but that makes sense. Also- great point about dehydration- I get dry mouth as it is, so that's something i'll need to be more aware of post surgery. -
Question about Post Op ADHD meds
loftyleo replied to loftyleo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Pixie Dust! Congrats on your new sleeve!!! How are you feeling? Yes it makes complete sense- I take adderall for Adhd and of course it has the added benefit of suppressed appetite. Since the surgery will suppress my hunger, i think it'd be smart to talk to my psy to see if we should move into a non stimulant post surgery. Are you taking something different post op? -
adhd Question about Post Op ADHD meds
loftyleo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone! Fairly new to this forum- I'm hoping that someone can anyone share their experience with Adderall xr after sleeve surgery? I've been on Adderall XR for eight years now and will be having the sleeve surgery next month. Along with helping my attention, adderall has a powerful appetite suppressant. On days I don't take adderall,i have low energy and I eat a TON After sleeve surgery, i was thinking about not taking my adderall and see how I can handle it. I figure that during that time- i'll have low energy to begin with and also will be restricted to how much i can eat. the post surgery diet will help me build the right habits and routine so when I'm done- i'll be able to eat "normally" and not need adderall to suppress my appetite. Also- post surgery i'll visit my psy to get another ADD med- but something different than Adderall. I guess my question is- has anyone tried this post surgery and how did you deal with the lack of appetite suppressing without the adderall? thx!
