  1. http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/unjury-protein/unjury-starter-pack.html This is the starter pack from Unjury... It has several flavors to try.
  2. Yeah, but nothing I've eaten has been strong enough to mask the protein taste to me. Closest thing to edible was applesauce with extra cinnamon to cover the taste.
  3. Thanks! Ill have to look for it. I've found using sugar free hot chocolate with a little chocolate unjury isn't too bad. I just got approved to move onto puréed foods so hopefully fruit smoothies will mask some of the protein flavor. I've also been eating Dannon Light n Fit Greek Yogurt... It's low cal and has 12g of protein so if I have two of those a day it's better than nothing.

    BCBS OF ILLINOIS

Yeah, it seems they're all very different. Mine only required a psych eval and to meet their requirements (bmi 35+ w 2 comorbidities or bmi 40+).
  7. Totally feeling your pain right now. Had my sleeve done on the 18th and seeing commercials on TV or smelling a restaurant as I drive past, I'm like "I am SO hungry!!" But then once the smell/visual stimulation passes I realize that it is just the stupid head hunger. I wished this weekend they had taken my sense of smell away for a couple months too, and low and behold now I have a cold haha. Be careful what you wish for I guess Good luck to you!

    BCBS OF ILLINOIS

I have BCBS and mine took less than 24 hours once all the proper tests and paperwork was submitted. All in all my first consultation with the nutritionist, to the day of surgery, was exactly two months, which seems to be pretty quick. I was very happy with them.
  9. So I had my sleeve done 9/18 and for the last 3 days I've had an intense pain that comes and goes, right in the middle of my chest. It kinda feels like the worst heartburn ever, condensed into 10 second increments. Sometimes I get it while eating, sometimes while walking, and the last two nights its been so bad to wake me up. I called the Dr. wondering if I was having acid reflux and he said it was probably just "esophageal spasms" and to take liquids slow and it should go away in a few days. Well I'm barely getting in 30oz of Clear Liquids as is, haven't even started full liquids yet because of this, so I'm very weak and tired from lack of calories and Protein. Anyways - did anyone else have these spasms? Have you found any way to help relieve the pain, prevent them, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I feel like I'm constantly having a heart attack over here (I'm 24 and my heart is fine so don't worry, I'm not lol). Thanks!

    Esophageal Spasms?

Thanks everyone! I've found that stretching upright or adjusting my posture really helps - It doesn't prevent them but can usually ease or even eliminate the pain once it's started. Just wish they'd go away so I could sleep better at night. Hopefully soon - thanks for your help
  11. Hey guys So I am meeting with my surgeon tomorrow... Any ideas on what to expect? So far I've gotten verbal approval that insurance does cover the procedure, PCP referral & nutritionist referral... they said meeting the surgeon was the next step. Any ideas on what I should expect? Will I be scheduling my surgery tomorrow, or is that still a long ways out? I know I still have a lot of tests and stuff to do ahead of time (I think?) but I do know my insurance does not require the 6 month nutritional counseloring, nor does the surgeon require the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Any input will be much appreciated!
  12. Hey everyone. I just had my sleeve done Weds 9/18. Unfortunately I'm having severe nausea and trouble keeping even a tablespoon of liquid down. They aren't sure if its a reaction to the anesthesia, morphine, or what. Leak test came back fine, and my drain is already out, but they're keeping me longer than planned because of My inability to keep "food" down. Did this happen to anyone else? Any ways to combat it? They have me on both Zofran and Reglan which have been helping a little but not much. Throwing up 5-6 times a day immediately post-surgery is not what I had in mind at all
  13. Good luck to everyone having their surgery today!! I'm new to the site, kind of new to this whole thing all around. My nutritionist recommended surgery July 18th, and it's scheduled for next week, Sept 18th. All the tests are done, insurance approved, meeting with the surgeon and nutritionist one last time tomorrow. I can't believe how much my life is changing in just two months. Luckily I only have one day of liquids-only pre-op. Oh and I'm from Illinois. Looking forward to keeping in touch with all of you September Sleevers out there so we can help each other along

    Meeting Surgeon Tomorrow!

Hey guys So the meeting with the surgeon went well last month... He basically went over all the details, made sure I was a candidate, etc. I had my EKG, ABGs, Xrays, and blood work done last week. Tomorrow is my final meeting with the nutritionist and surgeon, and my surgery is schedule for next week! (The 18th). Totaly time from first meeting with the nutritionist, all the tests and appointments, insurance approval, to surgery, was less than 2 months. Can't complain about that
  15. I went to a nutritionist this week to get a weight-loss plan and she highly recommended bariatric surgery. I hadn't realized that I qualified for it, but now that I do, I'm highly considering going the sleeve route. This idea was just introduced to me a couple days ago, so I haven't done too much research on it yet. I'm going to an informative meeting the hospital has tomorrow, but I'd like to get a take from some people who have gone through the surgery already. Do you have any regrets? If so, what are they? Any advice for a newbie from someone who has gone through it all? What is the worst part of the whole process? The best? Sorry if I'm not posting this in the right area, obviously I'm new to this whole thing. Any thoughts would be greatly greatly appreciated. Thanks, and I can't wait to get to know everyone here

    Regrets?

    Thank you!

    preop test?

What kind of questions were on it?

    Regrets?

Wow, thank you so much for the feedback everyone! Luckysmomma, as I'm not as researched as I should be on the topic this might be a dumb question, but aren't your food options still restricted at 4 months post-op? Maybe closer to the 9-12 month mark when you can eat more "normal" foods it would be better socially, emotionally, etc? Not trying to negate your feelings, just a genuine question I'm sorry you're not happy with your decision but I really appreciate hearing some negative feedback about the surgery as well, as it makes me consider all of the consequences. A quick update on my journey... I went to an informational meeting about it at the hospital Saturday, and received the necessary referral from my primary care physician today! I have an appointment to meet with the surgeon next week! Can anyone tell me what comes after that? Now that it seems the process is underway, I will start looking into Protein shakes as many of you have suggested. Any favorites out there? Is there a minimum amount of protein that needs to be in them? Thanks again everyone

    Regrets?

Wow, thank you so much everyone! I haven't even really started the process yet, but am nervous/excited at the possibilities. Insurance has confirmed that it is covered, and I have the necessary referral from the nutritionist. Now I need to go see the gastroenterologist (is that the right term?) and get more informed. It does encourage me hearing that most people don't regret their decision to do it. I think that is my biggest fear with this whole thing... Not the surgery, or pain, or even the strict eating regimen, but that for some weird reason I would regret my decision afterwards (whether because of complications, excess skin, something) and not be able to take back something irreverersible.
