Wanting to Start A Houston (Westchase, Katy, Highway 6) Support Group
munchkincan replied to galati25's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, Do we really need a "leader". I think we just need to agree on a time and place every month or every two weeks or whatever the majority of those interested decide. Some months more will show up some months less. And if it doesn't work out after a few months those of us who show up will know and we will just dis band. We are lucky that we have this thread. We can make decisions as a group pretty much on the spot. I will be happy to help in any way I can. I just completed a year as local President of a Houston organization. Please don't missunderstand this statement. I am not volunteering for the job.. just saying that I think in this instance where by-laws, rules, blah blah blah etc are not involved we can probably do this without a "leader". I am just so excited that this might really happen. I need a support group. I am only one day away from my surgery and I am scared to death of taking this huge step. I need all the help and support I can get.:help: Nancy -
First visit with Lap Band doctor Aug 7th
munchkincan replied to Lenny5124's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have Aetna. I had to have blood work done and an EKG. That was it. It will take about 2 or 3 months for my insurance to kick in they are very slow so I am paying cash. I don't want to wait and then find out for some obscure reason they turn me down. I know some insurance companies require a 6 month study with a nutritionist under your Dr.s care. Don't want to wait for that. I will have gained another 25 pounds in 6 months at the rate I am gaining. Almost 16 pounds since my Mom died in March. Good luck to you. Nancy -
First visit with Lap Band doctor Aug 7th
munchkincan replied to Lenny5124's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My first seminar was June 20. Met with the Dr. after the seminar and scheduled the surgery the same evening. My surgery is Aug 1. I could of done it the next week but my schedule wasn't open until Aug 1. So I only have 2 days to go. I am both scared to death of this decision and life change...and...so excited about the surgery I can't sleep. Good luck to you and I hope for a quick turn around for you. -
Pain following surgery
munchkincan replied to Jeanniepenini's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I am so sorry for all the pain you are feeling. This really scares me. My surgery is in 3 days and I am still not sure I am doing the right thing. There seems to be so much on going pain involved in this procedure. I don't mind a little pain and I can take a lot of pain if I know it is going to go away. But hearing from some so the people on this forum it sounds like you are in some form of pain all the time. Don't think I want to do that. Life is to short to be in physical pain all the time. I am used to the mental pain, I can take that. UGH Nancy -
Congratulations. What an inspiration to all of us. You are proof that a positive attitude and hard work gets the job done. You must be so proud. I know we are all proud of you. WAY TO GO. Nancy:whoo::clap2:

Losing friends...
munchkincan replied to cookielover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My best friend decided to do this with me. My surgery is Aug 1 and hers is August 6. We are not only best friends we will be best band friends. The only problem we are having is trying to figure out what we will do now that we won't be having 2 hour lunches. We go to dinner a lot also. Our hubby's travel a lot. -

No, you are up 100%. The other girl is the one who lost a friend. You have to feel sorry for someone that won't stand by you when you are making the most healthy decision of your life. Let her go. Give all your time and energy to yourself and your good friend. You will make more friends. Good Luck to you with the band. -

Hi, I am not sure who started this idea but I wonder how it is going. It seems to me we have enough people interested that we should get it started. What are we waiting for. Nancy -
You bet skin weighs. Save your money and get it off as soon as you loose all your weight. I am saving and I my surgery is not till Aug 1.

If you change your mind, do they have to give you your money back?
munchkincan replied to kero's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you thinking of backing out. I know its scary and a huge life change. But just remember it will probably be the best thing health wise we can do for ourselves. We are all here to help you with whatever questions you have. I went back and forth for about a month. I am scheduled for next Wednesday August 1 and it can't get here soon enough for me. Good luck to you and take care of yourself. Nancy -

I sent you a private message and then was told you don't accept private messages. So I will sent my message this way. I think the idea of a Katy area group is wonderful and I would love to do anything at all to help get it off the ground. There are so many places in Katy we could meet. Lots of great restaurants and plenty of Starbucks. Let me know if I can help in any way. The support groups that meet in the Dr.s office I don't think are very helpful. They for the most part tend to work for the Dr. and of course are not going to say anything negative or give much attention to your problems or any pains you are having with the band. They only want to hear success. However, if a group of us get together that have all had the surgery by different Dr.s at different times I think the feed back would be really helpful to all of us. Good and Bad stories. Lets get this going ASAP. August is just 5 days away. My surgery is August 1. -

What fun. Weekdays or evenings during the week are better for me. Weekends are spent with hubby and kids. But what ever time and place you decide is great for me. I will make the time. If this is a Katy, Tx group why not closer to Katy. There are hundreds of restaurants and lots of Starbucks. I hope this takes off it sounds like such fun. Please girls lets get this off the ground. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. My band is August 1 so I will be ready for all the help and support I can get. Nancy -
Good For you. This is a great place for support and to have all your questions answered. It's a wonderful feeling to finally take charge of food instead of having food take charge of us. I have 6 days to go before my surgery and then I will be able to answer questions from first hand experience. So many people on this fourm have answered all my crazy questions. Its like discovering a tree of your family you never knew existed. WELCOME and keep us informed.:whoo: Nancy

Any August folks out there? I'm Scheduled for August 10.
munchkincan replied to JudiM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Trish, I am also August 1st and I am 60. Most every one is younger but thankfully treat us the same. Age doesn't really matter. If you are over weight you are over weight 16 or 64. Good luck to you. -

So far my plans have been to eat as much as I can as often as I can until August 1. If it doesn't get here soon I am going to explode from eating. I guess I am trying to make up now for all I can't have after the 1st. Really bad idea but I can't seen to stop my self.:faint: -

It's exciting, but really scary too. I have really been up and down about doing this. But finally decided after gaining 9 lbs in a little over a month that I am going for it. I know its a hugh life change but I know it will be a change for the best. Good luck to you and keep us posted on how you are doing. -

I am scheduled for August 1 with Dr. Spivak. I understand from all I have heard and read that we have a pretty great Doctor. I to had no pre-op diet thank goodness. I did have to have blood work and a EKG but that is probably because of my age. All was fine so I am ready to go. Scared to death and hoping I am making the right decision. It is such a huge life change for all of us. I never worried what I put in my mouth or if I chewed enough...just how much I could shove in and how fast I could shove it. It's gona be hard to take small bites and chew till the food is mush. But I guess we will learn. My greatest worry is how I will be able to eat without taking a drink every 3 bites. I am a huge tea drinker. Lots of new things to learn on this journey. -

Why are you being REbanded? What went wrong? -
Thank you so much for your help. I am learning. I will check in every day now that I know how and will let everyone know how I am going after the surgery August 1. I went to dinner tonight with my family and had a Taco salad. UGH. Not my favorite thing but I am trying to learn how to eat better. I am sure going to miss Chips and Hot sauce. I could go through t baskets all by myself. :hungry:

I am one of the fortunate ones. MY blood pressure is great. I have high cholestral and my triglycerides (can't spell either one as you can see) and on the high side but no other problems. If I keep gaining like I have the last year that will change. I have gained almost 10 lbs since the first of June. I thought my scales had broken so bought a new fancy one and guess what I have gained 9.6 lbs. If I keep on this way I will qualify for insurance and won't have to self pay.
-
I am not sure when you posted this I still have not figured out how these things work but just wanted to let you that there are plenty of Dr.s that will band you at a low BMI. If you are self pay you should have no problem finding one. I talked to 4 Dr.s here in Houston and everyone of them were willing and happy to band me. I am self pay and by BMI is 30.9. My surgery is scheduled for August 1. Dr. Hadar Spivak is my Dr. Dr. Felix Spiegel is another very good Dr. in the Houston area. Good luck to you.

Hi, my name is Nancy and I live in Katy. I am going to be banded on August 1. I would love to join a local group. Please keep me informed. Thanks:clap2: -
How does this sight work. If I post something how will I know if anyone answers me? :help: I have a lot to learn about how these sights work.

Hi my name is Nancy. I am scheduled for surgery on August 1. My BMI is 30.9. I am excited and scared and hope I am doing the right thing. I am self pay so I really need this to work for me. It was great to find a forum for lower BMI folks. I hate to tell how much I weigh and what my BMI is on the chat line. I feel like I am ignored after I answer that question. It will be nice to find people who will talk to me and answer all my questions and calm my fears. Thanks so much for this sight.
