I went through the same thing... My pre-op diet starts tomorrow so today I had waffles for breakfast and spaghetti for lunch! Felt guilty and had a protein bar for dinner. Sayonara carbohydrates.

I'm now a stay at home mom, but taught art on the elementary and middle school level for many years... Still making art but hoping that I'll feel much better so I can get back to teaching! Starting my preoperative diet tomorrow...

Great idea! I'll definitely try this. -
Have you seen American Horror Story? REALLY good show- next season also starts in October.

Yeah, she may need to be moved, lol but agreed a lot was left unfinished... Great writing and characters in that show. Thanks for the update!

Can't forget 'Game of Thrones' also amazing!

My all time favorite binge-watch was Breaking Bad- GREAT finale last night btw... But also loved Orange is the New Black. Thought the next season wasn't until next year though? When is that supposed to be released? Love that Netflix put all episodes out there at once for impatient binge watchers haha... Not sure if these are on Netflix but if you all like the horror genre, coming up soon is another favorite, 'American Horror Story'- Jessica Lange is in it and is awesome- this season it's all about witches... And Walking Dead is always good.

ARE YOU GETTING SLEEVED ON OCTOBER 16, 2013?
LBD replied to Sleeve Siren's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there! Same here, Oct 15th & starting (mostly) liquid diet on Oct 2. I can drink any water or crystal light, plus 3 shakes & 2 fat free yogurts a day. Curious about what the issue is with red & purple drinks?? Surgery in Connecticut. -
I recently found out that I have an umbilical hernia, most likely a result of an incision made during WLS in 2007. Had LOTS of pain recovering but don't think it had anything to do with the hernia, even though according to the CT scan it's large. So I guess they're not always painful... My surgeon will deal with it during my VSG surgery on the 15th, but not really sure if it will effect my recovery time, or if if it'll be painful after it's removed. Interested also to hear other's experiences also!

Thank you for posting this... Pre-ops like me need this reassurance!!!! My surgery is scheduled for October 15th & I am starting to ask myself the same questions. I'm having nightmares about 2007 when my surgery went awry and then imagine sending my children off on the bus on the morning of October 15th, knowing what happened before. Logically I know that mistakes are rare and my surgeon is going to be extremely careful with my surgery but it's still scary as hell. Logically, I know that if I want to know my grandchildren, I have to do this and I finally got up the courage to tell my oldest son what I am planning to do. I was going to hold off because I didn't want to frighten him but the moment seemed right. He's twelve and knows what happened the last time, but when I shared this with him he was so sweet and supportive- not scared at all and knows that I need the help. In my head, I know this is right, it's my insecurity and fear that is getting in the way of a bright future with my family. Anyone have a fast forward button???

Hiatal Hernia and the sleeve?
LBD replied to LuminousLife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm fairly certain that that it's common practice to repair a hiatal hernia at the same time that your VSG happens. I found out that I have an umbilical hernia and my surgeon will deal with it when I have my VSG on October 15th. -
I've lost a 2-year old, my husband lost a mid size microwave. You?

I really hope to drop a newborn giraffe! -
Not to veer off topic too far but I also found out that I have a hernia near my belly button that needs to be addressed during my surgery... Didn't bargain for that. Most likely developed from that hideous open procedure in '07, but whatever needs to be done get it all done at once... BOGO, lol. Who Dat, did your wife have a longer hospital stay?
-
Yay! Will let you know how it goes... Everything will be fine and it will all be worth it! For so many years I've dreamed of feeling great in my own skin. I cannot wait to post those before & after pics!!!

I'm pre–op but I have had 2 c-sections and a open abdominal procedure after an internal injury to my aorta. I can tell you that the open abdominal surgery was the absolute worst followed by my first c-section because I labored for 18 hours first. Both doctors told me that recovery was more difficult because of the internal trauma & labor. I'm thinking that this should be much easier, but we'll see what the post op people have to say. When is your surgery? I'm scheduled for October 15th.

Me too! Having my surgery in Bridgeport, CT- you?
-
Don't want to alarm you but I had this happen once, but the fever/hot area for me meant that I had a pretty serious infection. I was hospitalized and needed intravenous vancomycin. Call your doctor ASAP.

If you still struggle afterwards, why do it?
LBD replied to Healthygal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for starting this thread & also for all the great replies. Off the top of my head, I was thinking about that hormone or neurotransmitter, Gherelin? It is produced in one area of the stomach and is essentially removed from the equation once that section of your stomach is removed. This was an added benefit and a surprise to doctors after the fact. It's my understanding that Gherelin levels are high in people with obesity because it sends hunger signals to the brain. So chemically and physiologically, we should be less hungry... Having my surgery on October 15th... Excited for my future and wish the best for you regarding yours! -
Has anyone tried adding PB2 to a vanilla protein shake? Bet it's good!
