My primary care physician suggested that I have wls due to my comorbidities. That's exactly what I'm going to tell people. How can they argue with me taking the advice of my physician?

So yesterday I am out walking with one of my best friends. She has been having issues lately, stress at work and chronic pain, etc. and but has been even more emotional lately and withdrawn. We were walking and I ask how she's been doing. She said better, then started to cry...??? Turns out she went back to see her therapist the other day to see if she could get some help and figure out what was going on. They were talking and the therapist asked her if there had been a recent trigger that started all this. My friend didn't think so but started listing all the things that had happened recently. Guess what her trigger was..... Me having surgery and losing weight! It seems that previous friends have lost a bunch of weight and changed their behavior and attitudes and she was concerned that would happen to me. I tried to reassure her it wouldn't and I didn't get upset but when I got home I guess I slipped into a bad mindset and started thinking, so she's fine being my friend as long as I am the "fat" friend but if I lose weight and am "skinnier" then what? I am hoping that is not what she meant. Anyone else had to deal with something like this and have suggestions for how to help her along with my weight loss or do I just go on and hope she gets ok with it.
Be kind to her. I suffer from depression and I know how it feels. She just needs reassurance right now.

You should post when that happens! It's quite a milestone too.
I will be sure and post it but I'm at 305 currently so I'll probably reach twoderland during my pre-op diet (hopefully). Thanks though.

I don't think I'll ever get to experience onederland, but that's ok. I'm 6'-3" and will probably be at my goal weight at around 210-215. I'm in the 300's now, so I will get to experience twoderland. lol

I DO NOT WANT A CATHETER!!! Being a male, for the obvious reasons, it seems like it would be very painful. I can't even stand the thought of it. Mr. Surgeon, please leave my privates alone.

You'll do great. I'll say a little prayer for you.

Thank you for your post. I needed to hear that right now. God bless!

I'm 6'-3 and my goal weight is 215. Any less and I think I'd look too skinny.

Congratulations. I have to wait 4 more months until I complete my 6 month medically supervised diet before my paperwork can be submitted. I almost feel like I can't wait any longer. lol Again, way to go.

I emailed my surgeon's office and asked for an explanation of the Program Fees. Below is their answer. Excuse the fonts. That's just the way they came out when I cut & pasted.
Our program fee is an administrative fee which helps to offset the
practice's cost of services we provide patients, in our comprehensive
program that are not covered by insurance. Because this is an
administrative fee and covers services that are non-billable to insurance
it is an out-of -pocket expense and does not include or get applied
toward your deductible, surgical fees, or co-pays.
It helps us cover expenses for the EMMI program (the online computer
educational service available to you and support persons both before
and after service), our pre-operative educational class, educational
materials, nutritional teaching supplies, support group expenses,
informational sessions, after-hours call support, etc.
All patients who wish to participate in our surgical program are charged
a program fee. lf you are a cash pay patient, this charge is already
included in your total cost of surgery.
We strive to offer our patients the best and most comprehensive
program in the area. Program fees are a part of most bariatric
programs and we strive to maintain a competitive program fee in order
to keep your costs reasonable while giving the best care we can.

I am currently pre-op and I think someone used a 196FR bougie on me. I could eat a chubby piglet. Lol

A CPAP mask can be difficult to get adjusted to. Just set your mind that you're not going to sleep without it. I love mine. I rest so much better. I even take naps with mine.

Yesterday was 10 mons since my surgery. OMG, down from size 13/14 to size 4 pants & shirts from x-large to x-small. Unbelievable.

My surgeon is charging me two program fees that I'm just not sure of. The first was a $75 fee to cover the seminar and various other stuff. The second is $1000 due one week before surgery. The part that concerns me is that these fees will not be submitted to insurance. That seems a little curious. Also; I had to pay $95 for my Nutritional Evaluation and Psychological Evaluation which also was not submitted to insurance. They say that there will be no other fees. Anyone else think this seems odd?

I was creating a list of my current medications in my phone for reference and realized that I'm on 15 prescriptions. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, low T, restless leg syndrome, and depression. What a physical mess my body is in. 15 prescriptions at age 47; give me a freakin' break.

Do not buy the Jabra's. I have a pair that I paid over $100 for and they started having static problems (not radio static - ipod static). Also; these fit over the ear and do not fit inside the ear very well making it hard to hear the music when outside. I called Jabra and they said to just re-boot them and they should be fine but it didn't change a thing. I've still got to get back to them. They are the sport type and are sweat proof. They're great except you can't hear very well and they have static. LOL Oh, and they're also pretty large. Too big really.
