    TMI alert..

I had the same problem. It was horrible. Gave up dairy and now I'm fine. whey Protein is dairy, by the way. Its hard to get protein in since I still cannot tolerate much meat, but Beans and lentils don't make me sick at all. I was told that many people become sensitive to dairy post op.
  2. I bought some samples of whey-free protein powder and some dairy free bars today. I am pretty sure this is a dairy issue. Since whey is milk and I'm constantly consuming it between the shakes and bars, this has to be the problem. I took a Lactaid pill then ate about 1/4th of a quest bar this morning. 30 minutes later, my intestines started getting rumbly and I needed the bathroom quick. Lactaid isn't doing the job for me, though I know it helps many of us with dairy problems. I'm so sad because I am going to have a hard time getting the protein requirements met without dairy products. Being sick and terribly gassy most of the day is worse though. I hope I can get this under control.

    My brain

Take it easy. Have you talked to a therapist? Maybe your surgeons practice has one on referral. It's normal to be scared and maybe talking to a professional, someone who has counseled lots of weight loss surgery patients, can help you control your anxiety. And/Or go to some preop support groups. You will learn that you are not much different from the other people there. I was terrified too. Listening to others and telling a professional how scared I was really calmed me down.
  4. I had a similar incident about two weeks out. I felt like I had pneumonia or something, plus I had hives and hot flashes, like a fever. I woke up in the middle of the night and, this is gross, coughed up the hugest amount of junk from my lungs. I also was coughing up bile. I think that part was from coughing so hard. The doctor said that I should have been coughing to clear my lungs during the first week of surgery, it was bound to happen. Have you tried deep breathing, trying to cough? I know it's unpleasant, but maybe your lungs are still gunked up from surgery. Breathe in as deep as you can, blow it out for as long as you can. Do this several times, several times a day. Sleep with lots of pillows to prop you up so you breathe freely during the night. That night was terrifying but I did feel so much better the next day. I wish you well.
  5. Whey is dairy. I am having this problem too. Have had diarrhea at least three times a day for two weeks. And, of course, I just bought two cases of protein drinks and a bag full of expensive protein bars before I figured out what the problem was. Lactaid pills, even triple the dose, did nothing for me. No idea what to do now about getting enough protein.
  6. I can't imagine a little juice would hurt your WL. Having waste sitting in your body seems a lot more unhealthy. Have you tried a probiotic supplement? I use Good Belly from whole foods. Careful though! This stuff works, like really works. . I would do a half dose at first and gradually build up.

    White Poop

Weird. Are you letting food sit in your stomach for a while or washing it through with water? In other words, are you drinking while or right after you eat? I would call the doctor in any case. That seems unusual.

    July sleevers please check in..

Hi. Surgery 7/30 224 lbs. CW 198. Can't eat much of anything. I developed issues with dairy, really sick all the time. Protein drinks make me sick as heck now. Was very constipated for the first month. I used the Good Belly probiotic. If you try it, do it close to the weekend or when you can stay home. It's like drinking a trillion tiny scrub brushes. It worked too well for me in just two doses. . I hope I can start getting calories in. I haven't lost anything this week, likely because I'm only getting about 200 calories a day. Sigh.
  9. I do take Prevacid, twice a day. I'm just having the hardest time with solid foods. I eat very slowly, small bites. Still food feels stuck in my throat and get the horrible slime. I think I need to back off and go back to super soft food for another week and try again with solids. Who knows. I've not lost 30 pounds in a very long time so all of this struggle is nothing. I know I will be fine with time. And, like my doctor said, I'm not going to starve to death as long as I drink the protein and be vigilant about the daily vitamins.
  10. July 30 here too. I've lost about 28 lbs so far. I'm not able to eat very much at all. The surgeon said to,just make sure I take the bariatric vitamins and drink the protein. He also said to not worry about the 60g of protein rule. Shoot for 40. I don't eat the same things everyday because once I eat something that makes me feel, terrible, I cannot look at the food again. I can't eat meats but can get down saltines and slider carbs, no problem. I notice if I do eat some saltines out of desperation to get something solid in me, my sleeve feels soothed, not rumbling and acidic. I had a small, piece of fish tonight. About two ounces. This awful thick, saliva kept filling my mouth and i felt Like was going to choke. It was so stuck. Nose ran like crazy too. I ended up vomiting. Just horrible. The surgeon said I will not die from not eating very much and to take advantage of this time as this when ill lose the most weight.

    Overnight Bag

I was given a bear in the hospital. They called it a Bari-bear. It's also called a cough bear. It's a very very firm teddy bear and is shaped so you can hold it against your tummy to cough, move around, etc. At first I thought it was a little silly, but after surgery, I did not put it down. Took it home and had it on my tummy at all times. It really helped to hold something firm against my abdomen. A regular pillow is not even close to firm enough.
  12. Thank you for this thread. I'm5 weeks out and feel terrible all the time. Exhausted. The thought of drinking another protein drink...ick. . I only get in about 300 calories a day and maybe 15 grams of protein. Can't wait to turn the corner. I don't feel like myself at all. I keep buying foods to try, get sick or grossed out by everything I try. I find that if I eat something and feel bad afterward, I can't bear to even smell that food again. Eggs used to be my favorite food. I ate half a scrambled egg recently, got sick, and now I can't even think about trying it again. So sad. Today I had five saltines, a tablespoon of cottage cheese and 1/4 cup of canned peaches over the whole day. I tried to force myself to drink some protein and just broke down in tears. WAHH. I'm a big baby. Thanks for the opportunity to complain. I know it will pass but not soon enough.

I week post opp / and

If you feel hungry, it might be just acid. If you aren't on a medication, get one. Worked for me at that stage.
  14. Just what I needed. Excellent post. Thank you so much!

    dead skin?

The week After surgery, my whole face peeled off. It was just like a light chemical peel. I asked my dermatologist about it. She had no clue. I don't think the sluffing off of dead skin is anything to worry about, though. If it keeps happening for a long time, see a doctor.
