Pouch packing, major defill, now weight gain ??? Help??
rose suongas posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Help! I need some input ?? I have been having major, disgusting heartburn, and throwin up for the last year, its been really gross. I havent lost any weight for the good year, my mom passed away and have been in another "world". I just figured it was stress. So feeling a bit better, I went in for a very small fill after this time. But the nurse suggested I have a fluro too. I went and thank god I did ! Dr. Yau was awesome ! He said I was way too tight. He said I have been pouch packing and that is why the heartburn and throwing up. He ALSO said that my esophagus was almost three times what it should be !!!! NOrmally, it should only be a finger wide, but mine was almost three fingers wide !@!@! I couldnt believe it !! He let me see it and I actually took a pic of the screen with my phone !! Becuase I was too tight, the food wasnt going down and hence the heart burn and throwin up. He told me he had to defill me 3 cc's :wink2: which now puts me down to 5cc's. I told him I was very sad :cursing: with that because I was afraid I would gain some weight. But he said he prefers I graze all day and eat often but very little. I have to do this for a month and go for another fluro and then very slowly start up the fills. My question is: Have other people gone thru this and regained alot of weight? Will I be able to lose faster now? Slower? OPinions? experiences? I would really appreciate your input on kinda what to expect. I know everyone is different. I have another 42 pounds to lose. Help? -

I can totally relate !!! I HATE where I am right now..I have lost three pounds but regained 1. I thought I would lose more already. I feel much better, no heartburn and all, but not that weight loss. I am sooooooooo scared I will regain. I gues I have to heal the esophagus first. Blund, how did you do? -

Pouch packing, major defill, now weight gain ??? Help??
rose suongas replied to rose suongas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the reply Blund.. I am so sorry to hear of your troubles and pain..I understand somewhat you are going thru, but can imagine being my hubby. I have had a terrible time with the grief, I am on meds and have gone to my third grief group. I am 5 ft. and well, 189 lbs. yah, too heavy. My mother was similar stature, actually shorter. She was heavy after she had me, at 39. When she died from the cancer, to see her deteriorate down to 84 lbs. was ASTONISHING AND HEART WRENCHING and nearlly killed me. But so many times as she lay in bed, she kept asking me to lose weight. I told her when I got the band, but not really sure she understood. I am still having a hard time witih it, but it is time that i take care of myself. I am not getting any younger. It always shocks me when I hear people lose so much weight, and wonder, why cant I lose a mere 50???? I have already lost 45, I just have 50 more to go...!@!!@ The number seems so small. I have never been tiny, but I looked real good at 137 lbs. So, be proud that you are taking care of yourself, because you wil be no good to anyone if you are sick. I spent too much money, money that I didnt have on this thing, I aint giving up. I just want to lose as much as I possibly can. Sometimes we think we are not strong, but we have the inner strength. REmember, " Your deepest struggles become your deepest strengths..." You can quote me on that. I will pray that you all be blessed with the strength to continue this difficult journey and find peace in your hearts. Dont get filled too tight, which was my problem. Doctor said my esophagus was three times the size it should be. It should only be one finger wide, mine was three times wide. I thought it was just the stress, not the fact that I was too tight. Day two and I feel so much better. And I am watching very carefully what I am eating. And I have begun drinking my water again. Lets keep in touch and I wish you much strength and never lose the faith.... -

Your story sounds familiar. Day two and I feel fantastic !! I have gone back to drinking my water and I eat every two hours, but very small. I am also watching what I eat. I know this is a very dangerous stage and want to avoid weight gain, so I know I will have to be careful. I have been able to sleep, and really enjoy eating and keeping it down and no heartburn. Thank you for your reply, I appreciate hearing others stories and feel this as encouragement for me. Thanks again... -

Breeezie, It was good to hear of your story. Mine right now is EXACTLY the same !!!@!@ I suffered for a year because within one year, I lost my mom, sold two houses and now live with my dad, so lets say stress has been at optimum. I just couldnt take the puking and heartburn anymore and hadnt lost in a year. The dr. tells me that my esophagus is three times as big as it should be from pouch packing and is extremely inflammed. So he did a big defill..( and wait one month and go back for another xray. I have already had a great day. Please tell me I can expect some weight loss ?? I appreciate any info or input ?? :wink2: -

Thanks for replying to my thread. I was kinda hoping to get an answer like yours. I actually enjoyed my dinner tonite for the first time in so long and kept it down. AFter dinner, my hubby and I went out for coffees, and I chose to skip dessert. Later, I came home and had a small fruit cup. No heartburn all day long. Thanks again... I love to hear people's input :wink2: -

Thanks Elcee, I know I should have gone in sooner, but I lost my mom, and moved my dad and I in together within one year. I just kept thinking it was all the stress. But I was really glad I went. After spending all that money that I Didnt have, I was sure to get an answer..:wink2:) I just dont know what to expect now. Do people lose now or always gain? Anyway, thanks ! -
Yes, there is. Otherwise, people could claim thousands and thousands of medical expenses....

Green - thank you so much for your thoughtful words and advice. I will definately will have to stop for a few minutes and get the grocery thing happening again. After all, I am doing this to AVOID what my mom is going through. 10 years ago, she had a massive heart attack, 4 years she was diagnosed with colon cancer. When she finished her chemo, 2 weeks later she collapsed and had a paralyzing stroke. Now she is dying from the cancer. I am very, very ANGRY with her because of her diet. She never drank or smoked, but her diet was etrocious !!!! She came from the old country where meat was for the rich. Therefore, ate an enormous amounts of carbs. The bad thing was, when they came to this country, they also brought over the etrocious eating habits. I am very, very convinced it was due to her diet. She would eat fruits and veggies and carbs. My dad cant believe how I eat now, he thinks its for mice. We constantly argue about this issue - and still he does not see the point ! They still think that carbs are a good filler !!!! I COULD SCREAM AND KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO THEIR HEADS !!! Sorry for ranting again, but I had to get this off my chest. So, on that note, lets all take care of ourselves better !! Green, you are still my hero - God Bless you and keep you healthy and happy !!

Thanks Doddie for your lovely words ! I start off the day well...and then it goes downhill... The days are busy with work and the nights ? well, who knows...Something always comes up. Its either the hosp. or my kids have something coming up, not to mention all the other garbage... I am eating junkfood at all - the problem is I am not doing anything else like.. not too much protein, put exercise on hold, not drinking water... stuff like that. I have never gained an ounce through this, but have to somehow get going. I am really hoping once the nicer weather comes. Really, I find every spring, I become really motivated. KInda like a caterpillar coming out of the cocoon turning into a butterfly... Thanks for the confidence.. By the way, the pic that is posted is old - it is post surgery. I will have to get a new one ! Thanks again!

Greetings to all. Its been awhile. Green, I met you at the open house with Donna D. - I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. May you soon get the peace you so deserve. With me.?...well..not so good. It all started in November when I held a few pre-xmas parties at my house - bad move. That is where it all goes down hill. I have not been able to get back on course since then. I am still stuck at 40 pounds since Aug. Despite my mom being terminally ill at the end stage of cancer with an pneumonia and my sons' behavioural problems, I find myself far away from bandland. I have never to this day gained an ounce, but nothing is happening but I know why.... I am finding it EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get back. I dont know how to get back....of course I am on meds for depression (gee, I wonder why ????).... Donna D, I am right behind you !! How r u doing? Any ideas for inspiration?? Rose :glare:

A Plateau at 4 months ?? Help??
rose suongas replied to rose suongas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's exactly what has happened - I have lost inches, but the scale has been the same since Nov. Thanks for your input - going for a fill in two weeks.....keep your fingers crossed for me !! -
dear lisa, I am very sorry to hear of your loss, especially at this time of year. I hope the Lord brings you peace in your hearts and know that there are quite a few of us praying for you....

Der Tyme, yes, this is very serious and you should see the doctor as soon as you can. I speak from experience. I have lost 35 since August, and my snoring has disappeared - you'd be surprised how many ailments have gone away with just losing such little weight already .... hang in there, it can be done !!
