In my opinion, we didn't have vsg so we could be on a diet for the rest of our lives. Having said that, if you can tolerate the whole wheat and want to have a piece, eat it. I find myself making healthier choices because I think in terms of "how much time is this going to cost me working it off with exercise." An example: my husband ordered Papa Johns pizza while we were watching football. I smelled it and wanted to have a tiny piece but decided it wasn't worth it. I think for me it is about long-term success. I know that if I start letting "a little this and a little that" into my diet, it could possibly end up being "a little more and a little more". I know that sounds contradictory but it is all about being mindful and what works for you. I'm just 6 months out and not a pro but I am determined that I want to be healthy and not just thin. Good luck.

Need Comebacks For "easy Way Out" Crack
Nevermind replied to gmanbat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My son, who is actually very supportive, he's just a young guy who doesn't think before speaking. Anyway, the first week after surgery he said that and chuckled, kind of making a joke. Since I was fresh out of surgery, I just broke down and balled and yelled at him saying "how in the hell is it 'taking the easy way out' to have 85% of your stomach cut out?" Of course he ran over and hugged me and begged me to forgive him.... Which, of course, I did. Since then he tells me all the time how proud he is of me. He sees me working out hard and tells me I am an inspiration. I guess I say all of that to say this: it really depends on who and how they are saying it as to the response. Most people just don't think before they speak. -
You had me at Bacon. lol. I have Butterball turkey bacon, low sodium and love it. Regular bacon is a little harder to digest. I was dead against trying turkey bacon but I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious is.

5'10" - 550lbs / Dr. Quinones
Nevermind replied to james1112's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, please continue your quest to get healthy. Might I suggest one of the surgeons in Texas. I went to Dr. Nicholson (check YouTube) or do a search for Nick Nicholson. There are surgeons in Texas that are very reasonable. Please search the surgeon you mentioned on various gastric sleeve forums, not just this one (Google)....I'm sure there are many people who had great success with him but I've read about serious issues too. Good luck. -
Last week 148. This week 145.5. I'm tweaking my calories (going up) and workouts....I still think I can make goal! Have a good week everyone.

Does anyone have more joint pain after surgery? I am 6 months post-op. I've lost just over 50 pounds (lower BMI to start). I have been working out quite a bit. Walking up to 5 miles a day (at once, outside and briskly and feel great while I am doing it but when I am done, I hurt). I also do recumbent bike for 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a level 7-9 alternately on the days I am not walking because of weather, etc. I am taking my supplements and getting my Protein in. I have about 1000 calories a day, give or take. I am thinking about asking my doctor for Celebrex because I do have a chronic pain condition too not related to my joints.... I feel like I am older than I am (I am 40-ish). I am having a hard time getting enough Water. Thanks for any and all responses.

Trust me. It's hard when you start but I really am enjoying working out...start slowly and find a couple different things to do. Fight through it and you may be surprised how much you like it....and you feel so much better about yourself. Good luck.

I took Prilosec at first and I still was feeling really hungry. When I switched to Nexium , it helped tremendously. All antacids are not created equal and some just work better. It couldn't hurt to change it up. Good luck.

148. Down half pound. I'll take it but I am doing something wrong, I am working out too much and not enough calories or building muscle....*scratching my head* Not quite sure. I am really, really working for it... Maybe I'll have a bigger drop next week. Not complaining, just baffled. I wish everyone a good week ahead.

I walk 4 miles a day on some days but lately I've been going 1 1/2 - 2 hours on recumbent bike starting level 4 up to level 10. When I am done I look like I just got out of shower.... I am logging everything I eat. Still it's somewhat of a conundrum because I seem to be losing the same, if not less, weight as before I started exercising. The first 10-15 minutes is hard, then I get into it and enjoy it. Also, I know it's good to rest a day but if I do, I am afraid I'll not get back so I don't miss any days....

Are you taking acid reflux meds? I'm almost 6 months out and if I dont take it, I get pretty hungry (not like before but hungry). Yes, you should contact your surgeon , it is dangerous and can give you serious problems (life-threatening, even) if you don't get help. Yes, yes, yes call surgeon and his/her team.

How Long will this go on?!?
Nevermind replied to DaddyMarie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started with super thick head of hair. I'm not really sure about the Protein aspect cause I think I've had decent protein, but my hair started falling out about month 3-4 (I am now almost 6 months out). It was very distressing because my kids said , "omg mom, your hair!" I've taken Biotin since before surgery and it does cause new growth but doesn't keep the hair from falling out, in my opinion. Having said that, I bought Neocell Super Collagen + C , which has biotin too, at Sam's Club and started taking it a couple weeks ago . I am not sure if it's coincidence but I think my hair loss has slowed significantly. Plus, I just cut it pretty short which makes it easier to take care of, especially since I am working out so much. I think it's just temporary and certainly worth it....in my opinion. Oh I have 60-90 grams of protein a day and use Wen. -
Gawd. I obsess about food more now....
Nevermind replied to marfar7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would say I obsess over food now, but in a good way. I think to myself, "I didn't pay $ xxx $ or workout 2 hours to eat THAT!" -
Today's weight 148.5 (half pound loss...) Side note: I've literally worked my bum off this week. Minimum of 1.5 hours a day and one day was 2.5 hours of cardio and tracking every bite to keep under 1000 calories.... anyone who says this is easy.....don't have a clue. I'm looking for more next week.! Good blessings this week everyone!

Exercise-I don't think the way I thought I would
Nevermind posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I am 5 1/2 months out. Lost 50 pounds. I'm very happy with that. I have been tracking my food with MyFitnessPal and quickly realized how easy it is for the calories to add up. I just started exercising a few weeks ago because I have been injured and have to take it fairly easy plus I deal with chronic pain from another condition. I've been walking 4 miles and alternating with 70-80 minutes (hard) on my recumbent bike. My initial thought was that I would workout so I would be able to have that piece of cake if I want (and I know that is still true) but I am finding myself thinking instead, "I am not 'undoing' the 70 minutes I just worked out on that piece of cake." Wow! I am just flabbergasted at how my attitude and relationship with food is changing! That tells me I'll be better equipped to keep it off. This journey really requires work (for me at least) and being mindful of my habits and actions. It isn't easy but sure is rewarding! I am so thankful for this awesome tool.... (Thank you Jesus!) <3 -
Before And After Gastric Sleeve Surgery Photos

Thanks for posting these. So motivating. Makes that 70 minute hard workout seem worth it! I can't wait to buy cute clothes (waiting for the last 30 to come off!) -

Update: 150 (2# loss) Have a good week!

I am 5 months out and I wasn't tracking for a good bit of it but I noticed that I was feeling hungrier and the scale was stalled so I started tracking again. I noticed with my eating pattern that I have trigger foods. For instance, I love Fiber one bars but I have learned they can also make me feel hungrier (ie: carbs) so I am now only eating one as a treat and not part of my daily meals. I still have the same triggers as before but I just don't get "as hungry" and it is easier to get back on track than before the surgery. It does suck though because people think it is easy but it isn't. This is just a tool, definitely. I do agree with the above poster who said to focus on your success. I have decided I am not going to beat myself up but just get back on the horse. Good luck.

Yeah I feel ya. I've learned I am really going to have to track. Unfortunately the calories add up fast. For me, I'm going to HAVE to ALWAYS be a "mindful" eater. But you recognize it, now you can move on.... this isn't easy, for sure. :-/
