  1. Wow...I have a very similar situation. What surgeon are you seeing?
  2. I was just given my surgery date...September 19th. I have a week long liquid diet which starts Thursday. Having it done by Dr. Hohen in Lenexa, KS. I've be considering this for quite a while and talked to a couple of different doctors. It took a month to get an appointment with Dr. Hohen, so I expected it to take another month or so to get surgery scheduled...Nope! He had an opening 10 days later.
  3. I want to run a 5K. Also, I want to go up the Great Wall. I visited several years ago and I knew even if I made it up all the stairs, I'd never get back down again without help. This one isnt a dream, but I'm really looking forward to crossing my arms without my boobs getting in the way.
  4. I was very thin as a kid. I can remember saying I weighed more than I did on my 1st drivers license so I wasn't smaller than my friends. my second year in college, i gained a bit, but was easily able to take it off by watching what i ate. I stayed stayed thin(under 125) with minimal effort until I divorced my first husband and began taking paxil - I was 30. I didn't gain much weight, but found it was suddenly much easier to gain. I remarried in my mid 30s and probably weighed 135, but didnt mind because i gained most of it in my boobs. After having two kids I never lost the weight and I kept getting heavier and heavier. I'm now sitting about 230. I believe paxil and having kids contributed to my weight gain, but know that my real problem is poor eating habits.
  5. I imagine that spouses go through as many emotional issues as sleevers do. You are changing and he might feel intimidated by it or insecure because of it.
  6. A good friend of mine had a bypass in 2000. She lost a lot of weight had a beautiful baby and became an alcoholic. She would drink a couple of bottles of wine a night and just couldn't figure out why her weight was creeping back on. She is now divorced and back at her original weight but she did give up drinking altogether this year. I don't think she ever looked at the surgery as a tool...she seems to think it is supposed to be a magic solution that should require no effort.
  7. Your post really hit home with me. I struggled with the same things for the last ten years. It has only been over the last year that I got a handle on things...now I'm working towards being sleeved as well. One thing I came to realize is that my lack of sex life wasn't because my hubby didn't want me. It was because I was projecting all my negative feelings and emotions on him making myself very unavailable. Since getting a grip on my emotional feelings about my weight and accepting that I am a beautiful person even though I didn't look like I want, our sex life improved dramatically. I hope that you realize that about yourself because it would be a shame to take those insecurities with you on your weight loss journey.
  8. Okay....I'm trying to decide between paying cash for the sleeve at the KC bariatric center with blis "insurance" or spending the next 6 months on a dr supervised diet and hoping my blue cross insurance will then pay for the sleeve after ive completed the diet (they require the diet before consideration.) I've spent the last year analyzing and altering my eating habits to assure myself that the surgery is something I can handle. Throughout this time, I didn't think insurance would cover it because my bmi is 38 and I had no comorbidity so i was prepared to cash pay. I have gone through my initial labs and was preparing to schedule surgery when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, so now I'm wondering if my insurance will pay for it. What would you do?

    Newbie needs advice

I guess I'm concerned that they could still decline it. I'm fine waiting the six months...a little disappointed, but still fine and the diet could only help with my new eating habits. However, I'll be really upset if I wait six months and then am given the run around for another six months and/or they decline it. If insurance says they cover the surgery can they opt to decline me because it is still more cost effective to cover my meds?
