    Need help!

You need to reconsider just biting the bullet and pay the fee especially if it includes all transportation during your stay. Not sure the group you're using but I used Mexico Bariatric Center & you're picked up at airport then taken to hotel 1st night then they pick you up the next morning (after you check out of hotel and must take your belongings with you) to carry you to the hospital where you stay for a couple of nights then they take you back to the hotel where you're there 2 night's then they take you back across the border to airport. It will be well worth the $100. investment plus just the security of using a reputable company that you can trust and know you'll get to where you need to be.

    Need help!

Who is your Doctor? You usually go through a medical group like Mexico Bariatric Center or The Renew Advantage or one of the other group's but they arrange for you to be picked up at the airport and they take you across the boarder to your hotel and do all the transportation of going to hospital and hotel and return to airport.
  3. My hubby went with me, but out of my 3 sleeve sisters 2 of them were there solo. There were plenty of other women during my stay that came alone and had no problems. Your coordinator at the hospital will help you with anything you need as well but you'll make friends and should have a great network that will most likely become your lifelong sleeve sisters. I was at Mi Doctor Hospital in TJ. My coordinator that sets it all up, connected me with one of my fellow Sleevers, so we had already connected before we met. You should also try Sassy Sleevers on Facebook, it's a closed group but you might find others going the same time you are, you'll have to be added to the group. There's around 10,000+ members, it's a great support group as well.

    Surgery Without Aftercare

jspitznogle, Glad you've done so well! It probably will be around February for you when the hair loss will start, it unfortunately affects the majority of Sleevers. It starts about 3-31/2 months after surgery & usually continues for 31/2-4 months later before stopping, then the new growth will start. It will grow back but it takes time!

    Surgery Without Aftercare

I too have no insurance and had single incision gastric sleeve in Mexico and I've done very well! My sleeve groups, 2 in particular have been my go to for support. Surgery was Aug 6,2013. No follow up with any doctors or nutritionist due to no insurance or money to freely give up. Hope this helps you. Follow the doctors instructions and of course if something does arise see a physician.

    Family and Friends Support

There are so many who go it alone, you'll be fine and I too had family and friends who were skeptical of me going, I pretty much kept it to myself & those that I couldn't keep it from knew I was having surgery but didn't know where I was having it done until I got back. I lost 92 lbs my 1 st year "August" of the 100 lb gain that I set out to lose. It's the best decision I ever made for myself. Maybe you should just keep it between you and your wife and after the surgery, then share your experience as they see the changes happening! Surgery is NOT the easy way out! It is the best tool you'll ever be given to battle obesity but it will be up to you to make it work! It is not a cure all! It's still all about choices & making the right ones!

    Juarez or Tijuana?

I would like to add that I traveled from Alabama & flew into San Diego, CA . Just found this info: Out of the 50 most violent cities in the world, Juárez ranked number 37 in 2013, down from the top spot six years ago, according to the Mexico City-based Security, Justice and Peace organization. Juárez, with 1.3 million residents, reported 505 homicides, or 37.59 homicides per each 100,000 of population. It held first place in the number of homicides in the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, was second in 2011 and 19th in 2012.

    Juarez or Tijuana?

My husband grew up in El Paso & when we got married 6 & 1/2 yrs ago we went there during our honeymoon but he wouldn't dare go across the border to Juarez due to the violence (drug cartel) if I'm not mistaken, it's one of the most dangerous cities! Just Google it. I went to Tijuana & Dr. Carlos Diaz did a wonderful job at Mi Hospital & there were "many" women who came by themselves. Please reconsider going to Juarez.

    The Marriott in Tijuana

There's a restaurant in the hotel that he can eat at, there's also a Wal-Mart up the road with a small shopping plaza. It's an up hill climb so we got the hotel shuttle to take us up to the plaza and we walked back to the Marriott. There's a place where you can exchange currency and a couple of little eateries there. The Wal-Mart is very different from the US. There's also a little place to eat at Mi Doctor Hospital if you're having surgery there.

  15. You might want to join The Sassy Sleevers group and see if you get more input. There are over 6000 members & they are great to share & encourage each other. It's a closed group, too. I had surgery in Tijuana but no post op problems. Try the other group it can't hurt. Karen
  16. I did a lot of research as well and ended up going with Dr Carlos Diaz. He's did the single incision which was about a $1000. more the usual sleeve surgery. There were 4 of us that got to know one another before arriving in Mexico & we all had the single incision done by Dr.Diaz. He was great. Surgery was 8/5 & 8/6/13 for the 4 of us. Do you belong to any other sleeve groups?
  17. I had single incision done on Aug 6th. I was instructed to be on a clear liquid diet for 7 days, I was doing fine til yesterday which was a loooong day of traveling home. I 1st felt a little lite headed. It felt as though I haven't eaten enough to sustain me. I'm afraid to eat or drink anything unless it's clear. More so because of harm I maybe doing to my new stomach. Single incision is done through the belly button and I'm verrrry sore today but it maybe due to tightening my stomach muscles for 3 hrs during flight as I was freezing my incision area is sore which is probably normal. Today I feel like my stomach is in knotts and cramps when drinking & stomach is the most sore it has been so far I feel weak and would like to drink protein shakes I had pre op. Please give me your feed back on your experience.
  18. Trying to find out if hospital is real cold or cool. Feed back please.
  19. My husband & I will be in Tj Aug5-10. Surgery is scheduled 8/6, hubby will want some authentic Mexican food. Also, should we pay with pesos or US currency? And of course where's the best broth?

    Treated differently?

I concur with all of you. I've been a yoyo-er through out all my adult life and 51/2 yrs ago before marrying my hubby I lost 58 lbs & weighed in at 156. I'm 5'8 & I was wearing a size 10-pant. I've worked in the administrating aspect in the field of dentistry and have always had to dress in a more professional style and with that said, my point is I have looked my best at a heavier weight but there is a complete difference of how you're treated when you're at a desired weight! Door's of opportunity have opened that weren't there b/4, people tend to be more drawn to you in acceptance, I even had a patient that had gone out to lunch with me a couple of time (b/4 dating my husband) and he stopped by during our lunch break one day to make an appointment & when I came out and he couldn't believe how great I looked and stated "You were always pretty but WOW, you look gorgeous!" & with his arms open wide he pleaded with me to just go out with him just "1" time and he said he would convince me to change my mind in marrying my now husband. Of course the answer was no. It is true you are treated different but your attitude changes and yourself confidence will go up, you're happier & healthier and it does reflect in everything you do. I was taught early in life that if you make change in your life whether it be good or bad- It is going to effect those around you! It's sad that large people are seen differently but I have been on both sides of the fence & I can say that there's truth to this!
