  1. I am having the sleeve surgery with the self pay option because my BMI is too low for insurance to cover it. I am right at 30 BMI. Has anyone had the surgery who has a BMI of 30 or around there? If so, how quickly did you lose and what did you think of your results? I can't wait to get sleeved, and am scheduling my surgery date today for the next few weeks. Thanks in advance for your responses.
  2. You are not crazy at all- completely normal. I did have a complication from surgery and still didn't die. LOL. Incredible pain for 5 days and I truly did feel I was dying, I wasn't. The body is an amazing thing. I'm feeling 100% now and even with my complication surgery was 100% worth it!!! You will do fine.

    feeling guilty

I let some chocolate melt in my mouth. More than I should have. I feel guilty too; however I'm back on track, still losing and I leaned my lesson. I was sick as a dog and had dumping. I need to learn how to deal with my emotions better than eating them because I physically can't do it anymore. Glad I'm not the only one. This is a great support group.
  4. I used Dirk Rodriguez in Dallas. We were in the same hospital, though. I think both our doctors do surgery there.
  5. Hey all! I had my sleeve done in Dallas about 3 weeks ago. I had a complication. The surgeon damaged part my spleen and I was in the hospital for 5 days. I'm 100% better now. Surgery was totally worth it, even with the complication. Just weighed today and I am 159. Goal #1 is 140 Goal #2 130 ultimate goal weight # 120.
  6. Thanks for sharing. Very interesting!
  7. Hey all! I was a lightweight as well and got sleeved on 7/24. Wanted to update you all on my surgery, which was done in Dallas, TX. I had spleen complications and lost 25% of my spleen due to the surgery complications. It was the most pain I have ever felt in my life (and I have triplets so I know pain, lol). HOWEVER, I am totally fine now, after the 5 day hospital stay and I would still do the surgery. I'm told this is not common at all, but that it can and does happen. Word to future sleevers: If you feel abnormal pain post surgery, DON'T IGNORE IT!!!! Don't let them tell you it's 'bad gas pain' I lost part of my spleen because of this, and had to be an emergency hospital admit. You know your body, they don't. You all will do fine, just listen to your own body. If you feel something is wrong, don't stop asking until they take you seriously.
  8. Tomorrow I get sleeved early in the am. I'm planning to take everyone's advice and walk as soon as I can.

I'm nervous too, my surgery Wednesday.
  11. ME TOO!!! Can't keep it off- ever! So glad to have found others who have similar struggles for support and advice. You/we are not alone.
  12. So glad I found this thread. Yes fat is fat! We all need acceptance and support on this journey to greater health. My surgery is a few days before yours so we will be in a similar boat. Will be nice to have buddies to go through this with!!!

I get sleeved on Wed. July 24!!! I ordered my vitamins, but they aren't in yet, have 1 weeks worth of low cal protein powder, most all of my medications, but I'm SO nervous. I'm mainly nervous about 'dumping', hunger, and nausea. I"m SO glad to have found this support forum online!

    Dallas, Texas Sleevers! !

I am in North Dallas and am using Dr. Dirk. Nice to 'meet' you all!
  17. Thanks all, I'm sorry if I came off snarky; I just don't want to be judged because of a lower BMI even though I am in the 'obese' category and going up.... I have been judged so much for my yo-yo dieting over the years as well as inability to keep my weight off. I have been on RX diet pills for YEARS (which can't be good for my heart) as well as over exercising etc... I can't keep up with the roller coaster. It's physically and emotionally worn me out, as well as being a mother to special needs triplets, plus 3 step children! While my BMI may be low-ish now for WLS, it keeps creeping up. I am doing this now, so that I remain a consistent weight. I need this tool because I can't manage it any other way. My doctor is actually in Dallas not Mexico. But I think this forum is for self pay as well. I am, just as we all are, looking for acceptance, support and answers on this emotionally trying journey towards greater health. Being sleeved in two days, and as ready as I will ever be.
  18. Exactly what I thought. Thanks for your real life perspective. It is very helpful both to me and also to others doing similar searches. Loved the eating like a normal human and not a pig line, LOL. I'm counting down the days to my sleeve!
  19. Thanks to you who responded with actual, personal help. I am fully aware of all the pros and cons of the sleeve (and surgery in general) and will be sleeved soon. This tool will allow me to finally get control over my weight battles. Every choice has a down side. This is the tool I have chosen for me after careful thought and consideration. Chickenlittle, I figured there would be some judgement. Ironic that those with high BMI's who have been judged all their lives, presumably, would choose to turn around judge someone who was not 'obese' enough. How silly.
