peachie86 replied to RCN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went through Kaiser Palmdale for my Options class. My BMI was 35 with high bp, diabetes and high cholesterol. Unless, you have medical illnesses I was told by my PCP that I did not qualify due to my BMI was not 40. She told me this for many years. I was so glad they added the 35 BMI eligibility. -

peachie86 replied to *Rosana*'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My BMI was 35 with medical conditions when I started this process, and once I started on my requirements I could try and lost weight which made me just under a 35 BMI the day of surgery. I actually was encouraged to lose 21 pounds but lost only 13 before surgery. -

Slleve vs Bypass - what made you decide?
peachie86 replied to Mid West's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know three people who have the gastric bypass and they are all still considered to be obese. So, I thought why would I subject myself a more complicated procurers, unless it was my only option. I am using the sleeve as a tool to help me lose weight. Ultimately whatever surgery I chose I am going to have to diet and exercise the rest of my life period. Maybe, you can join a gastric bypass forum and get more information on the surgery and the outcomes. -
I do not have to purée, just soft foods tuna, crab, chicken salad and chew very well. I am glad, the purée stage does not sound appealing.

My BMI was 35 but I have commodities which qualified me for WLS surgery. Diabetes, high bp, asthma etc. I only qualified with my insurance because of the medical conditions. Many years ago my insurance only offered to patients with a BMI of 40, period. Check with your insurance companies requirements.

To Flu Shot or Not to Flu Shot
peachie86 replied to CarryOn7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not take the flu shot if it makes you sick. I have taken it for many years and I got sick once right after taking it. However, I never took my flu shot from them again, at that time it was my then employer. -
