You can get Bariatric Times as an App. I have it on my iPad. I read it each month and understand some of it. It's quite interesting thanks for this Misty.

Eggs Protein Source *sigh* no more - Atlantic Cod Recipe suggestions?
jenpez replied to debrooks66's topic in Food and Nutrition
I don't know what Atlantic cod is but I poach barramundi (a delicious white fleshy fish) in the liquid of Tom Yum Soup. It is simple and delicious. One fillet does me for 3 or 4 meals at the moment. -

Thank you so much. This is such helpful information for me and gives me a plan to work to. Unfortunately I can't get that much water down very quickly but I will definitely work on it.

How much Biotin to take to help prevent hair loss?
jenpez replied to NMJG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon does not mention Biotin for hair loss in his notes, instead he says after checking your protein intake try Silica tablets and Zinc which you can get from red meat and raw nuts (also oysters). The notes also mention good fats such as avocado, olive oil, fish and fish oil. Hope this helps! -
Alternative Healing/Meditation/Positive Thinking
jenpez replied to natalie_christin's topic in The Gals' Room
I drive in silence. NO music! This is when answers to problems i may have miraculously appear. Once a week I drive to Brisbane. It is motorway all the way and takes about an hour and a half. I look forward to this drive, especially if I am stuck on something creatively ( I dabble in textile arts). I see this drive time as a form of meditation! I really think meditation of any sort has great benefits. Good luck on your journey! -
Hi Shelby, I was sleeved on August 7th so I am between 4 & 5 weeks as well. My dietician has me on moist solids and I am to try to get a litre of fluid in. She does not want me to worry too much about counting stuff yet. But I do fill in MFP so that I will get in the habit for the future. I find it difficult to get water down without it feeling like swallowing lumpy stuff. I have a dog who demands walks and I have a push bike which I have been out on twice. I am still going to bed early and exhausted. Still have some not so good days. But all in all life with the sleeve is improving daily.

Hello, I live on the Gold Coast, it seems as though you all know each other! But I would like to meet you all as well. I am 4 weeks post op today. My surgeon was Dr Nolan at Pindara. I have lost 7.2 kg since surgery. Jen

Even though we just have tiny little scars, we have had MAJOR surgery. This will take time to heal. There will be bruising internally and externally, there will be a lot of swelling. This will not go down in just days, it will take weeks or even months to completely heal. We do need to be patient with this and give our new sleeves time to heal. Some of the people who have had big losses may have had more to lose, or they may be carrying more fluid than you, they may have muscle wasting instead of just fat loss. Try not to compare yourselves to them, we are all different. When was the last time you consistently lost two lbs or more each week? I have never consistently lost large amounts for a long time, I am thrilled to be losing two pounds a week! I had my surgery on August 7th. Today is the first day where I actually feel good about my sleeve, where I understand what it is doing for me and what I have to do for it. It all takes time and patience and there are a multiple of minor inconveniences along the way. I do feel for you all but I do think in a few weeks you will be past this stage and look back on your posts and wonder what all the fuss was about..

Well the hot tea with lemon and kiwi, plus a long sitting seem to have worked their stuff today. I was starting to worry! Some of the stories on here are scary!

all natural chicken.. need simple recipe help.
jenpez replied to tmsnjdr's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Mix some yoghurt with tandoori paste. Low fat Greek yoghurt about half a cup with a couple of tablespoons of tandoori paste would be enough for about 500grams (1lb) of tenderloins. Marinate for about half an hour then cook however you like. You can fry them in a tsp of oil, bake them in the oven, grill them, barbecue them, whatever is your favourite. They are easy and yummy with a bit of flavour. -
I am 59, found out about this surgery in June. Sleeved on August 7th. At my one week post op appointment my surgeon said I was an excellent advertisement for any one contemplating the Sleeve. I do everything my surgeon and nutritionist tell me to do and I am recovering beautifully. I say Go For It!

This is such a good thread for me today, it is a week since my last BM. I have been taking pear juice with Benefibre to no avail. My MIL has terrible constipation and she has been told to try hot tea with a thick slice of lemon, also kiwi fruit. I am taking my tea now and have a kiwi fruit for after dinner! I also tried prune juice today but it is very high in calories. Some of the things you are talking about I don't think we have in Australia. The nearest Costco to me is 1000 km away in Sydney, which is about a 12 hour drive.

Has anyone got the book advertised on here about the sleeve?

What's the Worst Diet Advice You've Received?
jenpez replied to Greeknugget's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What's the worst advice you've ever gotten? The worst diet was the Dukan diet. It nearly made me sick swallowing all that oil and I put on about 10kg in about 2 weeks. Desperation will make you try anything! As for moderation! Weight Watchers said I could have 8 almonds! I mean how ridiculous . Nuts and cheese are my binge items of choice. I can't have nuts in the house. Not that I could eat them at my stage. -
I did not have a drain! I was in a regular private hospital, the nurses knew everything they needed to know and made no silly mistakes. I feel so sorry for you having such a terrible time, I want to give you big hugs. Jen.

when you stopped your PPI
jenpez replied to Momonanomo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon has prescribed me Nexium, a ppi, for 30 days only then stop. I am half way through them. -
I am 15 days as well. I can eat half a cup of runny soup, but less of a more dense purée like tuna salad. Also if I make one scrambled egg with 2 tbs of skim milk I can only eat about 2/3 of it. I some times have a protein shake in the afternoons for a snack but it takes me about an hour or more to finish it. I thought this was all ok. I see the dietician next Monday.

Well nearly everything I have not been into all thousands of posts! Anyway thank you for replying so quickly it's 0800 here so you must be up late!
