I am nearly 8 weeks. Surgery on August 7th. I can eat most things that I am allowed to but only about 1/4 cup all up, so I rarely get to vegetables. Also I am having a problem getting fluids down. Favourites are curried smashed eggs on a cruskit. I can nearly eat the whole thing. Sashimi dipped in soy sauce with wasabi mixed in. I have made the Emily bites lasagne cups, the Eggface breakfast bites and the Eggface Mexican Turkey bites. All very nice but end up with too many of them. I am so over the protein drinks, also supposed to be getting my protein from food! I have made protein smoothies but can't have the recipe right because I just don't like them! The multivitamin tablets make me nauseous at best and throw up at worst so have gone to the chewy ones which are ok if I don't smell them. Have never yet managed to get in more than 500 cals per day.

I laughed and laughed. You guys are so funny. I had to think for a minute about Lipsticks punishment for her husband. But yes got it in the end. Still laughing. Can't even remember what the post is about.

Wow. What a difference. You look fabulous. I bet you feel great too. Great inspiration.

I think you look great. Darker t shirts show less I think. I have been wearing my old too large t shirts that cover my rear and hips, my husband actually said it was time to say goodbye to them! He never comments usually. So far I have been dropping in size into clothes that I have kept from a few years ago but soon I will have to buy some. My surgeon said not to buy anything just yet, he's a man! What do they know?

Wow 71 pounds gone in 2 months post op
jenpez replied to FRED1977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations Fred, you are doing so well. Kae2, I am cold as Well but my iron levels aren't low. My husband says the surgeon must have operated on my temperature centre! LOL. -
I searched amazon under Bariatric surgery and also gastric sleeve. There are currently 3 books on the gastric sleeve. I have loaded them onto my iPad. I think the best is by Duc Vuong who is a surgeon in Texas. They are all by surgeons and all good. All up I have downloaded 11 books, only one was a dud, written by a bypass patient. Another good book for the psychology side of things is a book called "Emotional first aid"

I Am coming to Houston for 11 days in October. It is a big show on at the convention centre and I am very excited. I will just be flying in and then back to Australia. No other sight seeing. There will be other travelling companions with me. However I am also very nervous. It will mean every meal out. I am staying at the Hilton Americas, but don't plan to eat there very much. When I leave I will only be 11 weeks post op and still not on a full diet. I am now, and will still be, on soft food only. I am hoping there will be a bar frig in the room and that I can find a nearby supermarket for things like yoghurt and cheese. We do plan on getting to The Galleria one day. I should also mention that my nutritionist wants me to be getting my protein from real food, not shakes by then. After reading about some of your restaurants on this forum I am quite worried about what I will be able to eat. Any advice would be appreciated

How open were you about your surgery before and after?
jenpez replied to Superfluous's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure I understand what you are ashamed about. I was ashamed of being obese, of the possibility of costing the health system a lot of money in the future. I was ashamed of never looking good, of not being able to play on the floor with my grandchildren. I was ashamed of having my fat poke into people when sitting on a plane. I was ashamed of being a Weight Watchers failure. I am proud that I decided to do something about all of this shame and have the surgery. I am proud that I am doing my best to follow all of my surgeon's and nutritionists instructions. I am proud of my weight loss to date. Just very quietly I am proud if my Sleeve. I hope this helps you turn your shame into pride. -
Do family & friends think you're doing the right thing?
jenpez replied to Mid West's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My parents have both died and I have no siblings. I told some people who I would have to be eating with over the next few months, naturally some of these people told others. I don't mind but I TOLD them, I did not ask them for their opinions. I also did it in a way and at a time that they could not really come back at me with their unwanted opinions. By the time I told them I had a surgery date, was well into my pre-op diet and the wheels were well and truly in motion. Surprisingly, I have had a lot of support from all of these people. I think my M-I-L would like to have stopped me but said nothing negative and even came to visit me in hospital. Five days after surgery one quite close friend asked me how much I had lost since surgery, I told her and she said "oh is that all". Since then I tell no one how much I have lost or what my weight is. I find it quite confronting when people ask these questions, do they have no social graces, I am not a child I am a mature women with grandchildren. I think it is rude to ask these questions. Of course, on this forum I am fairly open with weight losses etc, still a bit cagey about my age sometimes! I love this forum it is my life saver, I have some gurus here who are admirable and funny, enlightening and knowledgeable and I love and thank them for their continuing input. -
I know most people or carb crazy but will I ever be able to eat a sandwich again?
jenpez replied to endless80's topic in Food and Nutrition
I want to be able to be moderate as well, so not do without anything. My surgeon explained that bread, rice and pasta can swell when they hit your sleeve and cause problems. I am seven weeks out and know I still have swelling because of the symptoms I am feeling and the very little I can eat and drink.. I am allowed to have toast so long as it is whole grainy. I have a brand called Burgen which is yummy but I can only eat a very small amount and it has to be toasted. I have only had it twice but it gives me hope for the future sandwich scenario. I don't have the problem where having carbs makes me crave more. Pre sleeve I only ever had two slices of bread a day. Other things caused my weight problem. Also most veges and fruit have carbs I thought? -
Best and worst "compliments"

Congratulations. You must feel great. All the many times I have lost weight I have never fitted a medium for more than a week! Your post reminds me to slow down and not get so panicked. Thanks.

Music lover, I feel your frustration. My understanding is that losing slowly is a sure sign that your are losing from fat stores and not from muscle, this is a good thing. The hardest thing about this forum is that you DO compare yourself with others, it's only natural. But the BEST thing is that there is always some one in the same boat, they can make you feel better. Although I am so far a slow loser, I have never lost so consistently, in all of my previous attempts, of which there have been too numerous to even attempt to count. It is easier for me to sort of ignore how quickly or slowly other people are losing because most of you are in lbs and I work in kilos, I have to open my trusty conversion app to work it out! You are probably also having a bad day, week or month and need a little extra loving. I hope you can feel it coming from me.

I live here. Can't seem to find any one else who lives here and yet I know my surgeon is kept busy and Sleeve is his surgery of choice. I am looking forward to meeting you all, I have lots of questions.

I will be there, I am very excited! There would be a bus from Helensvale station to Southport I think. If you saw a bus that said Seaworld on it that bus would go past Marina Mirage. I am sure you could google Gold Coast buses.

Post Prandial Ghrelin Response
jenpez replied to Globetrotter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This study only used men! Would it necessarily be the same for women? There are already studies showing that other things like intermittent fasting May in fact be bad for women and yet great for men, but because the initial studies included men only people assumed that it would be good for all. Also a study including only 15 people is a little disconcerting. Having said all that, it is still interesting and I hope more studies are done using more people of both sexes. -
Science of why and how the pouch / sleeve works
jenpez replied to mistysj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks Mysty. This was a great article and consolidates a lot of information for me. Even though it seemed aimed at bypass patients, there definitely can be similarities and similar conclusions drawn for sleeve patients. -
Wait until you have some grey hair, are female and fat. Then you are truly invisible!

Gamer girl I am so sorry you are going through this, how disappointing for you. Lots of us are thinking of you and sending good wishes, me especially. Cheers, Jen.

Something interesting about all the profile pics
jenpez replied to Justinh125's topic in Rants & Raves
Ummmm. Not pretty, not young, but at my heaviest this year. It was very hard to find a photo. I am good at not being in them. Also not photogenic enough for anyone to take any candid shots. -
hope you are feeling much better soon. Keep us up to date.
