Really I think you need to see a qualified Bariatric nutritionist. Congratulations on losing the 102 lbs. that is fantastic! We can all tell you what we do, or don't do but we all have different stats. Like heights, exercise regimes, jobs, even where we live can make a difference etc. There are a lot of threads about plateaus and you can search for them and read it all but none of it will be as succinct as a nutritionist that you get on with and trust. I personally have not read about any sleeve patient that can get in 1500 cals per day in the first year or so, but that is not to say there are none around. There are also a lot of books, many of which you can download, which will help with post surgery dietary requirements. I am a bit concerned about the sugar question, do you mean carbs found in fruit and veges or do you mean sugar added? If you mean sugar added the answer is none full stop. I am sure you will get more answers but I hope this helps in the meantime.

I have been away in Houston and when I came back I could not log on to the site. It took me a while to figure out it had changed. I think I am ok now. Nice photo of the Sydney meet up. You all look great. Wow Misty I hope you are ok. You have really been through the ringer!

Why you cant eat just one chip. Great read
jenpez replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for posting the article. Makes me mad that scientists are plotting to make me fat! Also makes me angry that some people can eat a bag of Doritos with no ill effect, but I just have to see them and up goes the scale. Oh well back to the sip dip sip! -
Missy Moo, glad to hear everything is going well for you. You should be home soon recovering in comfort. Take it easy!

Is it possible to get All the protein with out supplements?
jenpez replied to Albaleon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, absolutely, my surgeon and nutritionist expect it. One of the books I read said never to drink your calories. I consider a shake to be a drink. -
Good luck. Thinking of you both.

Focus needs to change, my head is screwed up!
jenpez replied to kim2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a book called Emotional First Aid. You can get it on kindle. It will definitely help with the head stuff. The book is by Cynthia Alexander. It is a guide for life after weight loss surgery. You will find something in there that will resonate with you to help. -
Just caught my husband carefully checking the linen cupboard before closing the door (I have a bad habit of leaving doors open). He said "just checking you weren't in there before closing the door, cos you would fit in there now!" Best compliment ever!

I laughed all the way down this page. The people here are very funny. Poor you, but a big reminder to us all to eat our fruit and veges. Glad they caught it before you had to spend your treasure on dental work!

Hi Anna, I am on the Gold Coast. The first thing I did was get a referral to a surgeon from my GP. My GP actually did a lot of research for me about types of Weight Loss Surgery and the best surgeon for me. Otherwise there is a weight loss surgery centre here where you don't need a referral but you do usually have to go to seminars and whatnot. The next thing I did was down load every book I could find onto my iPad so that when I went to the surgeon I knew what to ask and was fairly well educated about the surgery. I also watched some clips on YouTube. You can search gastric sleeve and hundreds come up. The next thing I did was join this forum. I have met some other Sleevers recently and really learned a lot from them, I found them through this forum. I also have quite a few favourites on this forum, some in Australia, some in the UK and a lot in the USA. Good luck. Hopefully some Melbournites will find your post and help with actual people to see! You will see that your story is similar to lots of other people and we all care and empathise with you Jen.

Can protein drinks be made ahead for the day?
jenpez replied to AtlantaRed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes they thicken up and get yucky if they are left. If you sip on them throughout the day, that would be considered grazing, which is a no no for most if us. They are not hard to make and you can take a shaker with you quite easily if you need to. I am 10 weeks and have been weened off them for weeks. I am supposed to be getting my protein from natural sources such as yoghurt, meat, fish, eggs, cheese. -
Thank you so much. I am going to the Galleria and there is a GNC there so I will check it out. People are so kind! I love this forum.

Laura, thank you so much for your offer for the protein cookies as well. I am sorry I did not get back to you and can't find the thread again. Bariatric Choice does not ship to Australia. Bummer! Do they have shops anywhere? I am coming to Houston next week.......so excited!

I enjoyed the video. Thanks. I haven't really been to you tube for sleeve info. So watched a couple of others as well. I will definitely go back and look again.

NorCalgirl, you poor girl. I know there is probably not much any if us can say to help you out of this right now, but this is a cry for help and there are some wonderful people on this forum who are here to help you. Even if you just keep reading the forum every day, I am sure you will find a few snippets to laugh at, which might help you through the day. Big hugs fro me, I will be watching for you each day. Jen.

Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
jenpez replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For me the most wonderful thing is that I now have a sense of being in control! -
Congratulations. You look great. Quite an inspiration.

Does anyone know the reason?
jenpez replied to kim2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allowed to eat fruit and veg it it is very soft. BUT I have to eat my protein first! Consequently I get very little in. I think I am doing well to get one green bean in. I am allowed grated carrot. I have tried coleslaw but my sleeve hates it! Makes me feel nauseated. I can eat about 40g of fillet steak, I cut it very small and chew it well. No problems. 40grams is 1.3 ozs. The reason the Drs and nuts can be wary of us having some of these things is that they can turn into little fibrous balls like hair balls and cause all sorts of problems. I think! I am 10 weeks out and have lost 13 kg, which is just over 28 lbs. so 2 lbs a week consistently. I have never lost so consistently before in half a century of dieting. -
Thanks for the spice recipe. I will have to make my own pumpkin purée, which is not a big issue. Can't get Torani here so will look for an alternative or just use vanilla essence.
-
I have a cappuccino every day. Actually I can really only drink half a cup so far. I go out to a coffee bar, I have several favourites, and I watch "normal" people eat huge meals. It makes me feel good. Sometimes I bike to the coffee bar! I only had to have decaf before surgery. My Nut just told me to ask that the coffee bar use skim milk. I have become very fussy about my coffee, and my sleeve only likes certain coffee bars now! LOL.

Just signed up to follow. What is in pumpkin spice. Can't get it here so I would have to make it. Nutmeg and cinnamon? Is this a main or a dessert?

You have made a huge change. You look fantastic. Congratulations.
