I did a lot of research trying to get information about which surgery was the safest and the best.  I spoke with ALL of my doctors and got their opinions. (They all agreed that VSG was the best and the safest.)

An important thing that I would like to tell people is, "Do your own research beforehand."  You need to follow the doctor's orders but do not wait for the doctor to tell you what you need to do.  Educate yourself because some doctors may not tell you everything you need to know.  Know what you are doing before you have surgery.  Know what to expect every inch of the way.  I looked at everything I could find in books, on the internet, weight loss forums, and on you tube to get information so I would know what to expect. I was scared to death when I had my surgery but I don't regret it for one single second.

The first day immediately after surgery, my chest was hurting from the air they pumped into my abdominal area during surgery (they do this so they can see what they are doing) and of course I moved slowly and needed a little help getting to the bathroom and getting my ice chips, popsicles, and jello.  I could only eat a spoonful of ice chips "from Sonic" or a bite of popsicle for the first couple of days because my stomach was so swollen.  The first 3 months were the toughest because I had to learn what I could and could not eat and how much I could tolerate.  I had an unpleasant feeling that rose up in my throat when I would eat.  That completely disappeared between 3-6 months.  I can eat anything I want now but I still watch the carbs and sugars. I would suggest that you do not drink anything carbonated because I took one sip of a diet coke about 2 months after my surgery and I thought I would die.  The chest pain was terrible!!!  I havent' had a carbonated drink since then.  I also started losing hair about 6 months after my surgery.  I got hair extensions put in to help with the hair loss and then ended up cutting my hair short.  I took vitamins as soon as the doctor allowed it but I found out via bloodwork that I had too much in my system at one point and it caused my blood to get too thick.  Apparently, I was already eating healthy enough and my body was doing fine without all the extra vitamins.  I would recommend getting your bloodwork checked on a regular basis.  You CAN get too much of a good thing even if it's a vitamin that is purchased over the counter.  ...Just sayin'.
P.S.  You CAN also gain weight after surgery.  I know someone that did it.  If you eat or drink the wrong things and you don't keep up with your proteins, veggies, and water, you can gain weight.  Don't allow that to happen.  Stay in control & good luck.   :)
