Excellent advice friends! I appreciate that so much. Helps me feel more confident...I can make really good choices now, and moderate my eating really well here, but again, that is a controlled environment where I am making the food, and I am making the choices as to what to serve...this WILL be a great test because I won't have any control over what is served, and...let's face it...it IS Thanksgiving...the land of starches and carbs. I've had a good long discussion with my husband as well, and he will be there to help me and cheer me on through the really tough moments!

Thanks for the advice Atlanta...I've been really good about already cutting out all of the soda, working hard on focusing only on drinking water (and of course not drinking during meals). My food issue has always been 'quantity' which worries me that I might fall back into those bad habits. A little scary to say the least.

Sooo....I have a question for all of my sleever buddies, who start their pre-op diets AFTER November 28th. Thanksgiving! I have worked really hard to lose the weight that I have lost, and I am truly concerned with the holiday. Let me give you some background. I will be traveling to visit my family for a week. I will be staying with family, and at the mercy of the food that either they have, or wherever we eat out...since this is a 'vacation' for me, and it's a week, the family all tends to eat out a lot...not mentioning the Thanksgiving day feast....where again, I will be at the mercy of all of the tasty 'vittles' that will be brought from about 30 different people. I do well when I am in my 'controlled' environment where I don't have delicious pumpkin bread or pumpkin pie (and we usually celebrate my birthday as well, so there will be birthday cake), so I am worried that I will undo lots of the progress I have made so far. I should also mention that no one in my family knows that I am having the surgery (for a number of reasons I won't go into here). So, I'm just wondering how you all are going to 'weather' the Thanksgiving holiday? I rescheduled my surgery from the original date of December 5 to the 11th so that I wouldn't have to start the liquid diet while I was traveling...there would have been no way I could do that while on vacation. Looking for any helpful tips/advice.

That is SO true Mel...I honestly thought it would NEVER get here...now it's just 23 days away for me. Funny story, on the way home from the fitness center this morning, we passed by the local Christian radio station here (as we do every morning). For the past several weeks, there little sign has had "24 hour Christmas music starts in __ days". The first time I noticed the sign, it said 23 days....today it said 11 days. I said to my husband "didn't we JUST see a few days ago when it said 23 days?" I was just sure it said 23 days just last week...that's how quickly the time is flying for sure...and with the holiday's next week...it's going to be a blur!

Welcome WhittyWoman - I have you on the list for December 16. Congratulations on getting your date. I, too, have always had a problem with my weight, so I don't actually know what it's like to wear 'normal' size clothes, so I am really looking forward to that. You asked about being apprehensive about telling people. It's for the very reason that you stopped telling people that I haven't told very many people. No one in my family (except for my husband, of course) knows....they have been the most critical and judgmental about my weight in my entire life...so I have purposely kept this from them until later down the line. (I live several states away from them, and only see them twice a year, so by the next time they see me after the surgery, THEN we can have a discussion about it.) I have told just a few close friends (and was quite apprehensive doing so...I honestly hadn't planned on telling anyone), but I needed to make sure I had a back up in the event that my husband was traveling during my surgery, so I told my most trusted girlfriend, and a few friends from my church group...but have sworn them all to secrecy. Only one person that I know personally knows about my blog, and I have not told anyone else about it...it's one of those things where I feel like this is going to be MY personal victory, I am winning this fight I have fought for so many years, and I'm just not going to have the naysayers bring me down while I do it. So many people have so many different experiences...some have incredible support and love, and others just get negativity and judgment. This is OUR time...this is OUR journey! (I feel like I should have "The Eye of the Tiger" playing in the background) Again, congratulations and welcome to the group!

Okay, let's try that again (last post wasn't being cooperative). You make a very good point Atlanta...how about we have the other thread be a count 'up' for how many pounds total we lost, and we can keep the encouragement and support here on this thread. That way, we can have a 'numbers only' running total of pounds lost in one thread (easily seen by everyone, and no one's numbers get lost in the threads), and this thread could be for all other victories, issues, encouragement, etc?

DeezJeanz - I have started the new thread...thanks for the GREAT idea...I can't WAIT to read everyone's success stories, and be able to cheer everyone's victories!

Now THAT'S a pre-op diet that actually sounds 'do-able'. Is that all the way up until surgery?

My pre-op appointments start next week. (My surgery is Dec. 11). This coming Monday I have my EKG, Chest x-ray and lab work, and then my final pre-op appointment with the surgeon's office is next Friday. It's a 2 hour appointment - 1 hour with the surgeon's nurse, and the second hour with the dietician. You might not need all of the other tests that many people here have to have, but the surgeon's office should keep you on schedule with the necessary testing. I agree with SoccerMomma, I would just give them a call on Monday just to be sure!
