Hi Nanny, I am on 8/8 too. Also getting nervous and trying to buy some of the things I think I will need. I don't have any special diet except for clear liquids for two days before surgery.

Post your online name and date of surgery only in this post....

Assuming insurance works out. -
I am in NY too. My surgery is scheduled for 8/8 at Ny Hospital Cornell/Weill. I don't know what a monometry is - is it some kind of test? Who is your doctor and which insurance do you have?
-
How long after surgery did you feel comfortable riding a bike? I mean regular one - not at the gym.
-
I have heard from some that not everyone needs to spend the night in the hospital. How many of you had to spend the night?
-
Any August folks out there? I'm Scheduled for August 10.
KarenG. replied to JudiM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just scheduled for August 8th - I like that 8/8. Waiting on insurance approval but I have been told that Oxford is super quick. Anyone else have Oxford? -
I was just told by my surgeon that he keeps everyone overnight - I have no extra health conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.

So I am scheduled for an endospopy on weds. The lady who made the appointment said she was sending me information on the pre-procedure diet. I just opened the envelope and it says instructions for colonoscopy. Didi you all get an endoscopy? Did they sedate you? Did you have a special diet before? do you think she thought i wanted a colonoscopy or do you think she just sent me the wrong instructions.
-
thanks guys! I think she sent me the colonoscopy information instead! I am glad I don't have to do the laxative thing ewww. I just hope that she didn't schedule me for the colonoscopy instead of the endoscopy - do you think it will matter in terms of appointment time? This was a pain to schedule.

New to a Solution Old to the fat
KarenG. replied to wanna_b_thin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just went for my consultation yesterday and the surgeon thought that the band was good for young women who want to have children in future if that is any help. -
I am new to this.... does anyone have a sense of why some people seem to lose really quickly and some people take a bit longer? I know in the long run it doesn't matter. Is it BMI, is it follow-up care?

How fun! this is a great website! Thanks for the information!

What weight for regular size clothing??
KarenG. replied to KarenG.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am getting banded end of july and am really excited to ditch all my plus clothing! Terridoodle - do you have a labradoodle or a goldendoodle? -
The motivation alone is worth it. If it fits in January go to Florida or something!
-
Hi Aubrie, as I said I am not banded yet... but I get the impression that everyone who gets the band felt like they couldn't lose without it and therefore there must be a subset of people who were slow losers (or not losing at all losing) before the band who it works really well for after the band. Those people should statistically be the majority if it works for 75% I hope that makes some sense - basically what I am saying is I am skeptical too but the 75% feels hopeful to me.

Not Losing Much!!
KarenG. replied to Shrinkin'Sistah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had the band yet but I think that 10lbs in a month is a lot -
He is a surgeon in NYC recommended by my doc. Have my appointment next week - anyone hear of him or have a consult/surgery with him? Thanks!

Marijuana Use After Surgery
KarenG. replied to KBates's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I learned recently that marijuana stimulates the endocannbinoid system and that an overactive endocannabinoid system leads to obesity - they have been actually working on diet medications that sort of work against the this. I would really limit marijuana use for that reason alone, i think it increases cravings and slows down you metabolism for longer than the time you are high. -
SOOO sick of slow weight loss! Need a good swift kick in the rear!!!
KarenG. replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I want to say that losing over 90lbs in less than a year is not slow. Very impressed! -
I am hoping to get a surgery date for late July/early August. I need to go to Europe for one week in late August/Early September. Do you think that I will be recovered enough by then? Do you think that I should hold off until after I return home in September? How long did it take before you felt good enough that you would consider a transatlantic flight? Thanks in advance for you input!
-
thanks so much for your responses. Still trying to figure out the best way to go. concerned about cramming into coach seat for the entire flight if not "neccessary" I mean I waited 33 years already! Also concerned about finding mushy enough food while traveling - seems like I could be setting myself up for some problems really early in this experience.
-
That was a fabulous post. I am getting a band within the next two months and have a ton of questions. Mostly, I am concerned that I will not eat properly (since this is obviously a problem for me!) but your post made me feel hopeful because you sound like me! Congratulation on coming so far and thank you for sharing.

Thanks for your response Teri. I am getting a band either in August or in September and I still have many questions. This board seems great.
