I'm awake in my room. Thirsty as all get out, but nurse says I have to go easy on the ice chips. Pain isn't to bad, gas sucks and ie hurts a bit to take a deep breath -

I'm leaving for hospital in about an hour. A little nervous, mostly because I've never had any kind of surgery before so I'm just not sure what to expect. Excited the date is finally here, looking forward to seeing what my future brings! -

My surgery is on Monday and I've had a sore throat for the last 2 days. No bueno! I don't feel sick and haven't had a fever or any congestion so I'm pretty sure it's just my allergies combined with the gross air since California seems to be on fire these days. Hoping this gets better by Monday! -
39 days til my surgery! September 16th baring any complications will be my day.

My kids are older, 13 and 18 so talking to them about the surgery wasn't difficult at all. The first thing my daughter said was she didn't want me to die (we watch too much Grey's Anatomy lol) but once we actually sat down and talked about what the surgery was and went over the risks and how frequently they occur she was good. Now I just annoy her by telling her which of her clothes I'll be borrowing someday soon! My son is all for it because he knows it will make me happy. You know your kids and what they can handle, so maybe just start off by saying your going to have a surgery and let them steer the conversation. You answer the questions they ask, as they come up.

I'm home with a sick kid today, this thread has made for an entertaining morning!

I've told a couple of people at work about the surgery, just the ones I'm close to and have already trusted with other personal information so I know I can trust them to keep it to themselves. As far as my manager is concerned, I'm having my gallbladder removed (which is also happening) and I don't feel the need to tell him anything different.

Heh! I'm actually a little afraid of how the sex is gonna be afterwards since I like it far too much for my own good now.

Did I just cry at work?

I crochet, and have recently learned to knit. I find that doing that calms me down considerably, not sure if its just because I'm focusing on what I'm doing with my hands so I don't think about whatever it is that I'm stressed about or what, but it works! -
I think as we lose weight our hormones get all outta whack. I haven't had a period since June and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt I'm not pregnant It will all even out eventually.

September 16 here as well! Start the liquid diet on Monday the 2nd, but I've already been replacing 1 to 2 meals with a shake so that it's not difficult to switch over next week -
Kaiser nor cal role call

I'm going through Kaiser in Fresno -
Neither of my parents were overly religious and I can count on both hands the number of times I went to church as a child. My mom grew up with a mother who was a religious fanatic, everything was about the church and she sent tons of money to those TV evangelists. Nothing my grandma does is without religious undertones even to this day. She's a hypocrite though, doesn't live the kind of life she tries to preach to everyone about. My dad was raised to go to church and he believed in God until the day my brother took his own life. Personally I've never been able to wrap my head around the fact that there's a God that allows some really crappy stuff to happen to good people, or innocent children and people just say it's God's will. Hell, I don't remember most of my childhood because of a "god loving man" who also really loved little girls. So, I don't believe in God. Sometimes I wish I did, because I've seen people's faith get them through some pretty horrific life struggles but it's just not in me.

They allow gay scouts now, but (unless I'm mistaken) not gay leaders... So not enough has changed IMHO. My son was in the Boy Scouts when he was little but I took him out when he was treated differently for not believing in god.

Tell Coworkers?
kwigillingok replied to desertgirl6801's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've told two people at work, everyone else thinks I'm having my gall bladder out (which is also happening). I work in an office of nearly 200 and I simply don't want people who don't know me feeling like they need to voice their opinion. Also if I'm going to be completely honest with myself, I'm afraid of failing (I've failed in every other weight loss attempt) so I don't want people knowing I've had the majority of my stomach removed and I still cant lose weight. Stupid little nagging voices, where's a ball gag when you really need one? -
Looking forward to people weighing in on this one! I am still pre-op but I use an inhaler daily, plus have a rescue inhaler and it never once occurred to me that having this surgery might make the asthma go away! The allergies, I'm sure I'm gonna have to live with but if the asthma goes bye bye things would certainly be easier!
