Where do I begin? I have two beautiful boys. I'm 35, a medical professional, a book lover........and OBESE! Wow I never thought I could say that out loud. See I always knew I was "chubby". But so what. I was healthy, more healthy than some of my "skinny" friends. As a child, my siblings would always give me their leftovers. "Give it to Judy, she'll eat it." And I did. And I kept eating. I've always been very secure and would say I have a have good self esteem. I dieted, as most women do, lost some weight. Gained it back. No big deal, I thought. Tried all kinds of diet pills, diet plans, diet programs, diet books.......trying to find that magical way to lose the weight, and keep it off. Of course, nothing worked for too long. My sons are 9 and 1. I love them more than anything. My oldest is at the age where he is very active. Bike riding, hiking and camping. His dad does all of the "active" stuff with him. Not too long ago he started asking him, "why doesn't my mom come bike riding with us?" Of course my husband covers up for me. "She's too tired." So I started to seriously think about how my weight no longer affects just me, but my children too. So here I was.....no longer chubby, but obese. My son wondering why I don't bike ride with him. Weighing more than I did than when I was 9 months pregnant with both of my kids! I had to do something. I have friends that had WLS. I spoke to them. Asked them questions. I did my research. My hospital (where I work) happens to be a Baratric Surgery Center of Excellence too. So I called and attended the information session. Within a month, I had completed all of the requirements needed for them to submit to insurance. A month after that, I got my approval letter! Wow, so here I am now. With a September surgery date. I know that my life will forever change. I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm anxious.......but most of all, I'm ready. Ready to put my bike helmet on!
