What did you tell people?!?!?
StarryNight replied to LeahJade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hear hear, LipstickLady! Totally agreed. -
Heheh, your description was priceless! But I will say, that vent flap so you can visit the restroom comfortably without having to re-pull and struggle into the thing is really great. The legs protect you from foreign toilet seats too, if you happen to lose your balance. They used to be bigger vents which I trusted more, but the smaller well, peeholes, are suspect!

Ugh, I'm 11 weeks post and I just had my first sliming moment. GUH-ROSS. Are you flattered that the first thing I thought to do when it was over, was to think of you all and come here to share? :/

Slow loser and loving it.
StarryNight replied to chibabyy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree with your points about slow losing making it non-obvious! With that said, sounds like your stats aren't slow at all! Congrats! -
Missy Moo, it's a phenomenon that can happen with the sleeve. Too much, too fast, or too "other" for the stomach to handle and your body lubricates your esophagus, and the food slides right back up and out, causing retching. There's a more tech definition, but that's what happened to me.

Almost 14 months out: Trip to the DMV
StarryNight replied to t.ski's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That's great!! Earlier tonight I got carded, so I was just reflecting on what year my license expires so I can go get a new thin picture! -
Yeah, I'm learning my limits too. I think it was a bite of the wrong thing (just turkey off the bone) and maybe not chewing well enough. But yeah, maybe the sleeve being ornery!

Question, now that I've tossed my cookies, should I drink up on water, or just give it a rest?

Just for kicks...with the new version of Survivor starting on tv soon, how do you guys think a successful sleeve patient (well into maintenance and strong, healthy) would do on the island? Would not requiring much food be especially helpful? Or would a dearth of protein in the daily diet for 39 days be especially harmful? I know they get to have as much water as they want. What other considerations would realistically need to be taken into account for a WLS patient on Survivor?

Lol, no I understand! Feeling satisfied on way less food has got some unique advantages! Even if its just something like being stranded in an airport overnight, and not quite a zombie apocalypse! Hahah

That's awesome! Do you consider yourself an athlete? Or more of a contender in the social aspect of the game? Just curious

Hmm interesting point! But at the same time I disagree that a WLS person wouldn't have a shot. It's pretty common anymore. Besides, the producers are casting for stories above all else. They've cast Little people, those with health conditions, who've had cancer, old people, etc. Anyone with a compelling story is fair game, and a stomach surgery isn't much different than an artificial knee or heart valve repair on a person once when they're out there in the game (less serious than those common examples, actually). We're normal people afterall, its just that we had a surgery at some point in the past, and are now much fitter for it. Some folks even become bona fide endurance athletes. (Contestants are constantly medically supervised anyway, and never alone with the production people all around.) So its just for fun anyway, assume a colorful character has been brought on board by the producers! They just happen to have say, 5 years of a sleeve under their belt. Any advantage?

That's great, Heyher!

Hey Meliss000, I know the support groups are out there, but I've just never gone to any. Maybe I'll invest in a kayak and paddle to the next one!

(Message sent too soon!) Anyway, the rain is crazy, but we've been pretty well protected in Denver proper (and we have flood insurance) I was sleeved by Dr. Metz, and he is a good person, always remembers and asks about my mom. I've been doing great!
-
Just wanted to chime in, this zombie rain is crazy (it keeps coming back!
-
Yeah, silly Internet! Anyway, the nutshell of it all is as you said; just try to stay balanced in all your healthy eating & fitness efforts, and you'll be just fine.

What's further sketch about this article is the photo the author must have just found and slapped on there of the woman sitting down. She wasn't "skinny fat", she was pregnant! That photo was in a much seen article about loving your body after delivering a baby! Totally different things really, and subverting the loving message of that particular photo makes me a little mad.

Forced restaurant outing, still on soft diet
StarryNight replied to Daydra's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yw! Yes, very smart to strategize on menus beforehand if you can! We all may have good general ideas, but every restaurant is different, and they may just throw you a curveball. -
Forced restaurant outing, still on soft diet
StarryNight replied to Daydra's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
-The broiled prawns are the best choice. Soft, lean Protein, goes down really well. But if I were you, I'd simply ask them to GRILL the shrimp, not broil it in butter. It's a steak place, that's an easy request. -The sandwich would be nice & soft too (just the innards, no bread) but if its like any seafood salad I've ever seen, it'll be dripping with mayonnaise. -Definitely not the deep-fried fish. My NUT's instructions say absolutely not--taking off the batter doesn't count, the food is still filled with grease. Remember, just try to enjoy yourself, and focus on the people. You'll be devoting more time to them than this negligible amount of food anyway! -
So this fAt gIrL walks into the drug store......

Kim2002, what a cute anecdote My prep nurse told me that she never would have guessed my weight. She was sweet too. For me, the comment made me feel good, not bad. Like a testament that I'd been able to pull it off (it helps that it's all spread out over my 6 ft tall body) and that wheeling into that surgical room meant it only would get better from there! Congrats on your upcoming surgery!
