Is this much pain normal?
StarryNight replied to LeanerLena5426's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too was part of the extreme pain percentage and was starting to wonder if something might be wrong. I had my surgery on July 2nd, Dr. gave me a short refill on Diluadid at my 2 wk checkup, but after that its been just Extra Strength Tylenol for 2.5 weeks. This past Saturday, the duration of the pain was really getting to me, so I made a plan to call my doc on Mon (today) and also post here, just like you did. Imagine my shock when I woke up Sunday am yesterday, and the intense burning pain was completely gone? All day today, (Monday) again, no pain! Yippee! It took just shy of FIVE weeks but it appears to be gone. I'm so relieved. So hang in there. It's good advice to remember everyone's healing process is different (and weight loss for that matter) so although tempting, try not to compare. (P.S. My Dr. explained that for me, the pain deep inside, and a little south of the big incision, is from the stitches that go through layers of muscles at the point where he closed the hole where he removed the excess stomach. The stitches securely seal the hole to protect against leaks, but because they sew those muscles, it's painful.) -
weight gain 13days post op?
StarryNight replied to caramellhoney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay for tall girls! Count me in as another 6 footer, and agreed that we need a bit more Protein for our heights. But girl, you have got to stop weighing so often! If it's gonna make you obsess (2 scales?) it's just counter-productive. My Dr. literally said to put the scale in the garage. Pull it out once a month. I don't think I can quite bring myself to do that, but once a week? Yep, I can handle that. Time will pass no matter what you do, and the scale won't miss you lol, it will be there when you go back to it next week! -

Wow, that sounds like a dream, struggling to get in protein over here. I'm interested!

Frequent Fliers?
StarryNight replied to CCRNonherway's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got 1 chocolate and 1 vanilla from all the brands that had packets available. (Harmonized, Terra whey, J Robb, Vega One, Garden of Life). I also got specialty flavors like blueberry, berry, and chai whenever I see them. Chocolates seem to be the best, although the berrys are interesting for variety. I haven't tried the chai yet, but I'm excited to. Also, the Chike coffee is really good in the am, it's like having an iced coffee (I haven't tried any other Chike flavors). -
Has anyones sense of smell changed?
StarryNight replied to AussieLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes indeed. I noticed my sense of smell was super ramped up as soon as the day after surgery, after I got home. Its almost 4 weeks later, and my nose is still supersonic. The smells don't bother me per se, but I just notice the heightened sensitivity. -
Frequent Fliers?

I'm a FF, and last week was my first flight (at 3 weeks post op). I had bought a bunch of the protein powder packets (you know, the sample size packets next to the big jugs at Whole Foods) so I can try a bunch of different types and see what I like. I also ordered a bunch of Coffee Chike online (so good). I just took a bunch of those, and mixed them into my water bottle while in the airports, and each day while at the client sites. -
Oh goodness, I hope I'm lucky enough to be a foot shrinker!

Definitely try the tea, it's gentle on your new stomach, and works within a few hours. Constipation after anesthesia is very common. I went a week myself after surgery, but the tea solved it! Any sort of Senna tea, like Relaxx Smooth Move, etc.

july 2013 sleevers
StarryNight replied to sureaboutme2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi folks! I got sleeved on July 2nd (wow, besides my Mom, you're the only ones I've told that to, feels weird!). I have been perusing the threads here since a couple days after surgery, but only just joined today. I am down 15 pounds from my 3-day pre-op clear liquid diet. Feeling pretty good, now that I'm on soft foods, I don't have a prob getting in my protein, but a little tougher to get all the liquid everyday, but not too bad. I still have level 7-8 pain in my side about 2" below my big incision, which is a killer when I don't time my Meds right. :/ Can't wait for that to go away. Big bruise on the skin too. Question: Who else feels momentary uncomfortableness whenever swallowing anything? It goes away immediately, but it's with every sip/bite that goes down. Want that to go away too! Good luck to all of us! Goooooooo July Sleevers!
