If you don't mind me asking, what was the price? I sent them a request and the sent back an email saying someone would be calling me. I would rather they just email me the price as I am not ready to talk arrangements just yet

Scar tissue and the sleeve

I have the same concerns.Several years ago I went through a botched laparoscopic gallbladder surgery. The Dr punctured my bile duct and a week later I had to have exploratory surgery to clean out the bile in my abdomen. They tried to find the leak but it was so tiny even using dye during the surgery they could not find it. Three days after the surgery I had an unsussesful ERCP done in an attempt to find the leak. That was a nightmare because the dr doing the procedure would only allow so much anesthesia and because of all the anesthesia I had had from the exploratory three days earlier, it just didn't do anything to put me out. I was wide awake for the whole thing! Here I was with a freshly stapled abdomen lying on my stomach and gagging the whole time, I kept trying to push myself up to tell them I was awake and FEELING EVERYTHING, but the nurses kept pulling my hand out from underneath me and pushing me back down on the table. Needless to say when it was over I was livid, and gave them all apiece of my mind. The nurse said "were you awake for that the whole time"? WHY YES YOU IDIOT! Why do think I was trying to get up. The assisting physician explained to me that they only use so much anesthesia so in case they hurt you, you can alert them to the problem. Well that worked really well didn't it! I ended up being discharged a week later with a drainage tube, and the leak sealed on its on. Now I'm 100lbs over weight in part due to NEVER being told, that I needed to take an acid reducer for the rest of my life and that the constant hunger feeling I have is not hunger. Its the high acid and bile content that is now flowing straight into my stomach. I had to come on to this forum to find out such vital important information that I should have been told by a dr. I've been on Prilosec for a week and can already tell the difference. Now , I did not mean to hijack this thread and for that I apologize but I told you all that to tell you this. I AM SCARED TO DEATH! I know I have for sure got some scar tissue going on in there. Just how much? who knows, and I have a hard time trusting drs. Going to Mexico does not bother me, in fact for some reason, I have a strong feeling that they are more concerned for there patients comfort and well being then American Dr's are. I keep researching trying to find the right one for me that I feel can handle the scar tissue problem. Any input from others who have had this issue also and were able to find a Mexico bariatric surgeon whom they have had a positive experience with will be so greatly appreciated. Oh and also @ longer-life, I also have hypertrophic scars as well. -
I would walk on my lips before I would say or do something so insensitive. The reason why things like this bother us so much, is because we know that we would NEVER do that to someone else.

I have seen the shingles vaccine offered at the pharmacy, but you have to be a certain age(elderly) to get it. I don't understand why that is, I've known several people that got shingles, and they were not senior citizens. Hmmmm I need to google this one.

So sorry to hear about your trouble. Maybe in the next day or so you can go to the salon and get your hair done. I am a hairstylist and at our salon we take walk ins as well as our regulars. I have had many ladies who were not my reg. clients come in for a shampoo and style after surgery. Sometimes there reg stylist can't fit them in, and they always leave saying how awesome it was to get a good shampoo/scalp massage. Having there hair styled professionally makes them feel so much better. Anyway, just a suggestion that might make you feel better. -
I've heard there are some Dr's that don't use a drain or take them out before you go to the hotel. But from what I understand correct me if I'm wrong, if the drain stays in after the leak test is done, you will also know if there is a leak if you see any blue dye in the drain. That's just what I've read, makes since though.

Is it possible to schedule surgery, directly with the Dr. without having to use these coordinators. If so which Dr.'s will do this.

extra fees after surgery at Nova Hospital in Tijuana?
2btrim replied to waterlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have inquired about surgery with several different surgeons in Mexico. They have all been straight forward with me about additional fees. Dr Ramos Kelly was the first one I emailed. Lora lee sent me an email stating that the surgery was $5200.00 and BMI's over 45 were $500. extra. Also if you go to the Mexico self pay section of this forum, Susan has posted a new price announcement it states that there will be an additional charge for revisions, BMI's over 50, gallbladder removal or hernia repair. It's just that these extra things take up more time which means more anesthesia, additional time for the surgeon and operating staff and plus it holds up the operating room. Like I stated in an earlier post, my surgery may take longer due to possible scar tissue from a previous surgery, so I have to be prepared for that and every Dr and or coordinator has always been upfront with me about this. I'm so sorry for you guys who feel you may have been mislead. -
Really? Really, youve got to be kidding me!

I think sometimes, people are just ignorant. I don't mean that in a name calling sort of way, but just to say they simply were not taught any better. However, that's still no excuse. Its like my dad always says, if ignorance is bliss, then they're a solid blister. I thank God every day for my parents and the things they taught me as I was growing up. -
God be with you CBee, prayers going out for you. Be sure to update as soon as you can, we will be worried if we don't hear from you. Just remember, God is mighty and God is good, He is mighty good ... All the time!

Get a load of this one. I'm a hairstylist and have told a few of my clients that I will be having the surgery. Well, the men have been very supportive, but the women have not been so much. What really hurts is the fact that they aren't even worried about me, they are worried about who's going to do their hair while I'm out. One of them even said and I quote "well I hope you come back alive, I need you to do my hair!" Needless to say I have decided not to tell anymore of my clients, they will just have to think I'm out on an extended vacation! -

extra fees after surgery at Nova Hospital in Tijuana?
2btrim replied to waterlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had a simple laparoscopic gallbladder surgery that went horribly wrong, the surgeon punctured my bile duct and I almost died from bile peritonitis. I ended up having emergency exploratory surgery and now for sure have got some scar tissue going on in there. Weather or not it will be an issue, won't be known until the surgery is actually in progress. Needless to say this makes me a little nervous. I was told by a coordinator that if surgery took longer than usual because of something like this, there would be an additional $500.00 charge. -
Surgeon YES! Coordinator NO!
2btrim replied to 2btrim's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
No, that's not it at all. I would just like to be able to deal with the surgeon directly. I have done a lot of reading and research and realize that there are several very good surgeons in Mexico, they are all running pretty much neck and neck as far as skill and experience goes. However, the bulk of the complaints I have read about, pertains to the coordinators. Its either poor communication, changing prices, telling people what they want to hear instead of the truth, or perhaps you just don't like the coordinator and would really like to use a particular Dr., just not them. I know it makes it easier for these Dr.'s to use a coordinator, but some of these people are really costing them business. -

Princess, I just don't understand that if you sent lab work showing that your blood count was below 12, why in the world would the Dr OK you for surgery and then change her mind after you arrived. This just doesn't sound professional on her part. I do agree it's better to be safe then to have surgery with too low of a blood count, but you should have been told this before you ever left for Mexico. Then again if they keep your deposit, that's $750.00 in their pocket without having to do a thing. Something doesn't sound right about how you were treated, sort of like a bait and switch kind of thing if you ask me. They knew what your blood count was before you ever got there and you should have been told in advance not to even come. As far as I'm concerned they owe you ALL of your money back, including your deposit and I wouldn't settle for less. Mexico Bariatric Center has some explaining to do. Please don't let this go, these Mexican surgeons an coordinating companies have to be held accountable, how else will we know who we can trust. However, I must give the Dr one benefit of the doubt, maybe she never even saw your pre-lab work. Not meaning to speculate but this could the fault of MBC, there has been a lot of negative reports about them. Just sayin is all! -
