"The touch and shave" ROFLMAO! THAT IS HILARIOUS!

How hard is it to turn a package over and read the nutritional label. Maybe lazy is the wrong word, maybe it's denial. A lot of people don't want to know the truth about all these so called healthy snacks, because then they would be responsible to do even more research on the products they are buying. They would have to work a little harder to find better options and well, they just don't feel like. That's what make them um uh well...lazy. Now, before anyone gets their knickers in a wad, I 'm not talking about the occasional treat, I do however believe that when we purchase these products that are packaged and advertised to be healthy and they are not, we are sending a direct message to these companies that we fell for their line of BS, we bought it hook, line and sinker. I cant stand the fact that they are taking us for fools, I have more respect for the snack cake company who isn't trying to sell me their oatmeal cream pies on the premise that the product is healthy because it contain "real oatmeal". What's happening today with all these "fat free" sugar riddled sodium loaded so call "healthier choices" is false advertising to the max and its running rampant throughout our country. Sugar is the now the new crack!

As a stylist, I am going to try to answer the why's to your question. First, hair is fed by the blood supply at the very bottom of the root bulb. It is a little more than 90% protein, that is the excess that your body doesn't need. That protein makes up your hair and nails. When you have surgery or when you are ill, your body needs all the protein it can get for healing and often times there just isn't any left over for hair. Have you ever noticed how someone who is anorexic often times has very dry thin and brittle hair, that's because the body is starving for protein and needs what little bit it gets to protect itself as in the internal organs, skin and brain function. Vertical sleeve surgery removes 80-85% of the stomach, and it take the body some time to adjust to this, that is why protein shakes are so important. Therefore, even with consuming the suggested amount, it is unlikely that there will be enough left over for the hair. With time you will be able to absorb more and there will eventually be extra available for your hair once again.

Well you'd better go look in the mirror and recite that little poem to yourself, that is unless you've never passed judgement on anybody and that would make you perfect which you're not. You took my comment way too personal and you shouldn't have, it wasn't about you. Every person who buys these sort of things are not necessarily lazy but yes, so many are. As far as me or anyone else next to you in the store being self righteous or labeling you as a lazy parent, well that's something you have no control of deary. People are going to judge you your whole life no matter what, so you'd better get use to it. What people think inside their own mind about you are their personal thoughts and that is none of your business. Just a thought

Weave/ hair extensions for hair loss?
2btrim replied to Italiancurves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a stylist, and I can tell you that the clip ins are best. A fellow hair stylist/co-worker had to finally have hers removed due to loosing to much of her own hair. It just puts too much weight and tension on your natural hair and causes excessive breakage. It also depends on the texture and condition of your hair. For example if your hair is fine or in a weakened state from color or excessive flat ironing etc. , extensions will more than likely cause further damage and loss. -
Surgery tomorrow in Mexico.
2btrim replied to tampa's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Praying all goes well for you tampa, keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. -
OK , let me see if I've got this right, you talk to people with such a superior smart alec attitude because you're really so concerned and are just doing it out of love? You question my motive for calling your tone condescending and you think people are looking for some sort of massage therapy from you. Well Mr. PdxMan we all have our issues and we don't need you to come around peddling your self-righteous psychobabble, so go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Wireless signals in Tijuana - Tracfone or Page Plus
2btrim replied to leslie1958's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have AT&T so I called and talked to someone in the international dept. I explained my trip situation and was told for $60.00 I can get 200 minutes and that once I got there if I could not get a signal, to call them and they would get me on someone else's tower. I will be traveling alone, so it is very important to have cell service once I get to the hotel. -

I love Kefir, I drink a cup every morning. I'm sure the plain Kefir is best but I love the blueberry and today at the grocery store I saw chocolate kefir. Hmmm sounds interesting, might have to get some of that! -
It's that time of year here in the south, green peanuts are out in the produce stands. For those of you who have never had them, let me explain. When peanuts are first pulled, they are green(not literally green) just raw and fresh and the shells are still fairly tender, they are really big in size due to the moisture they still hold. It's really easy, you just wash them well, put them in a large pot cover them with Water add salt to taste and let boil for a couple of hours until they are soft an the salt water had soaked into the shell. Really soft and easy to eat and a great source of Protein . I have not had my sleeve done yet(oct.) but I'm thinking it will set ok in my tummy once I am on soft to solid foods. Here in Louisiana a lot of people like to add Cajun crab boil to give them that spicy kick. Just be careful not to use too much salt.

AMEN SISTER! YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD! I've heard everything you are talking about, especially the "steal your organs" comment. It amazes me that some of the most ignorant remarks have come from some of the otherwise smartest people I know. I am going to have Dr Illan do my surgery and I have logged in hours upon hours doing my research to finally make my decision. Every time I would think I had found my surgeon, something would just come up that didn't settle right with me. Dr Illan is the whole package! First, he is with Mysurgeryoptions which means you get Susan as your US coordinator, then there is Omar, the on site coordinator, which EVERYONE sings the praises of daily and is one step away from being Saint Omar. Third there is florence hospital, which is a surgery hospital connected to Oasis of Hope. Oasis of Hope is a cancer treatment facility that is very holistic and focuses on the whole concept of mind, body and spirit. I believe there cafeteria is even vegan. Anybody who says that it is not up to the level of the US hospitals, has obviously never been inside any state or university run facilities, AKA charity hospitals. I almost died in one of those, thats where students get to practice on you, and yes even for surgery. I haven't even had my surgery yet and i can promise you that Florence Hospital is definitely much much higher in all aspects. Last but not least, there is Dr Illan, who called me personally and did a skype conference call and was so nice and answered all my questions and addressed my concerns regarding the possible scar tissue I may have due to the botched/butcher job I got right here in the US. He was so nice and spoke perfect English which really put me at ease, because I knew he was understanding what I was saying. He said the surgery usually takes about 45-50 min. That made me feel better knowing that he wasn't going to go in there and give me a 25-30 min rush job(I've heard about a lot of those) So basically what I am trying to say is I"VE DONE MY HOMEWORK! I am completely confident in my decision and I don't need some ignoramus who doesn't know s**t about what they are talking about, putting their two cents in. I would be embarrassed for Omar or Dr Illan to know what stupid and yes, racist things people say about the Drs and other health professionals over there. Yes there are some "bad apples" over there, but hey we've got those here too. You just have to read a lot, look hard and ask a lot of questions and you will find a good Dr. Personally with dr Illan, I think I've found a keeper. I apologize for hijacking this thread and making this so long, its just that this particular topic has been on my mind for a while.

This just in, Chobani Greek yogurt has had a recall of yogurt, siting mold as the reason for the recall. Check your containers, for the number 16-012 with an expiration date of Sept 11- Oct 7. The last thing anybody needs is mold in their tummy!

WOW! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe, I'm gonna do it! If you haven't posted this in the Nutrition section, you should. I bet a lot of people would love to make some of this good stuff!

"are you sure this is going to work"
2btrim replied to Marivdb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree with this. I am 45 also, and I love my mom dearly and would never want to disrespect her, but I have finally realized she doesn't know everything or whats always best for me. I think that old saying "mom knows best", doesn't always apply once you get to be our age. Letting go and trusting that we know what we're doing, isn't often easy for them. I don't have children of my own so its sometimes hard for me to understand where she's coming from. -
Are you getting a new driver's license or work ID since losing weight or once you reach goal?
2btrim replied to buplee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm right there with you on that, mine is a small town also, you are in and out in no time. The DMV ladies are really nice also, which I understand is a rarity in most places. -

2btrim replied to buplee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's so funny that this subject came up. I recently lost my drivers license and had to go get a new one. Well since my birthday is in Nov. and it is due for renewal, the DMV lady asked me if I just wanted to go ahead and do my renewal instead of just a replacement. I said yes but immediately began thinking about what I would do when I lose all my weight,. I think I'm going to put on some makeup, fix my hair all pretty, march in there and proudly proclaim that I need a new license because I've lost 100lb's! -
How Did You Find Out About BariatricPal.com?

I was actually researching gastric sleeve surgery in Mexico and looking at different coordinating companies, that's how I found this site. -
Does anything know about death in Mexico.
2btrim replied to tampa's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Yep, sure do. I believe that person was said to have died of a pulmonary embolism. -

Please don't misunderstand, I am not trying to be mean or rude, I just think it would be better not to post things like this if you don't have the details or the name of the surgeon. I am pre-sleeve and have made a confident choice in my surgeon but this kind statement can be upsetting to people who are undecided and nervous about going to Mexico. -
About six months ago, IT started, the perimeopause! I am not on bcp's and have always had regular and easy periods(4-5 days). Then all of a sudden, no period. This went on for 3 months, so I made an appt. with my ob/gyn and she confirmed it. Perimenopause, the beginning of the end. She told me I would likely have a period after skipping 3 or 4 and that it would probably be a mammoth. Well, I did have my period but it only lasted for a day and that was it. Since then I've had one more and it was the same, one day and that was it. I am 45 and would actually be thrilled if I never had another one, but I am pre sleeve and really worried that after my surgery when I start really losing a lot of weight , that the release of hormones in all that stored fat, I'm going to start having periods left and right. I guess there is no way to know until I actually go through it, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things stay the way they are. I have never had a heavy period and I'm afraid if I do, I may freak out and run to the hospital thinking that I'm bleeding to death. LOL

So, I'm planning on having my surgery in Oct. and I decided I would start now on giving up the carbs. Well let me just tell you my body is in carb detox. Feeling weak and tired despite the fact that I have been getting a minimum 60 grams of protein daily. The carb cravings are hitting full force and cannot believe that this is a head hunger sort of thing. I will however continue to push forward, AIN'T NO SUGAR GONNA RUN MY LIFE!

Thanks MissErika, I appreciate the encouraging words. Gonna keep on keeping on!
