  1. My friend Sherry, another member here, began a blog as well: www.sistersleeves.blogspot.com
  2. I know I saw several people getting sleeved on August 6th like me. I began my pre-op liquid diet today and am getting super excited and nervous!!! What is your pre-op diet like, did you eat any of your favorite foods last week (I know I had a few meals of my favorites), what do you find most exciting/most scary?
  3. I am one month post-op as of today and I am soooooo very frustrated!!! I should be on a soft food diet at this point but it seems that every time I take a bite of something it makes me nauseated or creates a gassy issue (almost immediate burping). I feel like I will never be able to eat anything other than yogurt, Protein shakes or Water again. I feel so discouraged, I am afraid to eat anything and jsut can't seem to get over this spot in time. Did anyone else feel this way? If so, did you get to a point where you could tolerate things that actually had substance and taste? When everything nauseates or disgusts you how do you get in your protein and fluids??? Thanks y'all.

    CANCER? Prayers needed

    Praying now and will continue.
  5. Okay, so as of today I am three weeks post-op and this past weekend I had my first episode of throwing up. We were traveling and it got late and I know I ate too fast so totally take responsibility for this BUT this has create a whole new issue for me. The throwing up was such a bad experience for me that I am wary of eating anything at all. When I think of eating anything I become nauseous at the thought and just am avoiding it. Without having to be said this means my calories and Protein are nowhere close to what they should be in my daily intake. I don't know how to overcome this and am becoming very discouraged about this. Before this happened I was so excited to be moving on to another phase of my eating but now I am just scared of throwing up again. Any help would be appreciated.

    August 6'ers?

Yesterday was the two week mark since surgery and I had a stall last week which ended as of Monday with another drop of a pound. I am down 28 pounds from the start of my pre-op liquid diet. I am feeling better each day and just looking forward to what each week will bring.
  7. I have not felt hungry since my surgery date and while I haven't thrown up I have felt on the verge a few times this last week. I have found there are things that I liked before that I absolutely cannot stomach now. Haven't had the smell thing yet but who knows since I am just two weeks out.

    why do people hide it?

I am one of those who have told very few people. While mostly it is just because it is a private decision and I don't feel the need to shout from the rooftops there is also a background of being "shamed" by my mother and sister over anything weight related for my entire life. I just didn't want to deal with the people who are negative about this, and there are always some of those hanging around. The people who need to know quite frankly know...my wonderful husband, my closest friends, my Primary Care Physician, the supporters in my family, etc. As I learn more about the new me and my new life and as I become more comfortable in that knowledge I am sure that the circle of who knows about my surgery will increase. I don't discourage anyone from keeping their decision private and I don't discourage anyone from blasting it worldwide......it's a personal choice.

    Getting Scared

Hi Angie, Wow, this was me just about 2.5 weeks ago! From the time I decided on my Doctor to my surgery date was 3 weeks so while I didn't have long to fret over every possible thing that could go wrong I took full advantage and fretted 24/7. Literally I was lying on the operating table before they put be under and I was stressed out. Fast forward to today, when I am exactly two weeks along, and I have to say that all that worry did was get me sleepless nights and make me a bit unbearable to be around. Follow your doctor's instructions (pre and post op) and that will alleviate many chances of you having complications. Between the pre-op diet through today I have lost 28 pounds which is amazing to me. My stomach hasn't growled or acted hungry since prior to my surgery and when I follow the guidelines for liquids, Proteins, etc. I feel awesome and I know that I am giving myself the best opportunity to succeed. Perhaps your doctor and/or their anesthesiologist can talk to you in person or over the phone where you can ask the questions you have and hear their responses and feel comforted by them. If you are like everyone else you probably put a lot into researching who you wanted to do your surgery, etc. I hope something I said helps.

    Weight Stall?

Good Morning! Today marks my two week anniversary and during my 2nd week I also hit a stall for about 5 days....didn't budge, didn't move and I was becoming highly discouraged. I read a lot about stalls on here and found that stalls at week 2 or 3 are very common and just your body's way of adjusting. I was freaking out and feeling like "great, I have the surgery, I'm doing what I am supposed to and I still can't lose weight". It's a bad cycle to get into and one that is made even more awful because of my obsessive need to weigh every day. I have determined that I will weigh once a week and just do what I am supposed to do as far as food and exercise go. The good news is that this morning I weighed and I am down 1.5 pounds so the stall appears to have lifted for now. Have an awesome day!

    Is this normal?

So glad I read this. I am in week 2 post-op and have hit a small stall. Lost 1 or 2 pounds a day the first week and then suddenly it is by the ounces...not gaining but staying steady. I feel I am not getting in enough calories but I am literally not hungry at all and find I struggle between what's more important water in or protein in.

    Soft foods after a week

I was sleeved on August 6th and my plan is like this... liquids through the 1 week mark. Days 8 - 21 - (two weeks) all liquids like my liquid diet plus refried Beans, smooshed beans, pureed foods, eggs. Day 22 - (one week) soft bariatric diet Day 29 - What I can tolerate but avoiding tough meats, etc.
  13. Hi Eveyrone! Okay, had my surgery on August 6th and tomorrow I get to start eating things like eggs, yogurt, refried Beans, etc. I can also eat baby food but YUCKO...that is just not for me. I believe I am on this for a week or so and then move to soft foods and then normal foods at abour 4 weeks out. The day I began my liquid diet I was 311 per my scales. On surgery date I was 299 and today, almost one week out I am 287. Wow! I am down 25 pounds from start of liquid diet to today and down 12 pounds, so far, since surgery. I am having to work at my liquids....sipping, sipping, sipping. My hubby bought a diet Dr. Pepper today and although I don't even like them I would have paid good money to have just a taste but didn't want to go there at all so I didn't. Whew! Took a dose of pain meds last night and instead of helping me relax they seemed to make me keyed up instead. Didn't make for a restful night and today was my first day back at work. Will try to do just relaxation techniques tonight and stay clear of the pain meds. Can notice a huge differnce in a few of my shirts and it seems unreal to be at this point already. Woohoo!! Petrified of getting a leak so being super careful about what I am taking in and I take my temperature all the time. Not so much today at work but at times it tends to be a OCD thing. Any words of adivce??? I am urinating just fine BUT, and this may be a bit TMI, when should I expect to have a bowel movement? I mean I am passing gass all sorts of ways but nothing is happening as far as having a BM. Should I be concerned? What were some of your favorite foods when you moved into the soft food stage? Am looking for ideas to keep my tastebuds happy. xoxo
  14. How much water should I be drinking per 15 minutes? Should I be shooting for a sip or two every 15 minutes? Thanks!
  15. Manda - I love liverwurst too!! Of course the old way would have been to have a sandwich (or three) with plenty of Miracle Whip on it!!! Egg salad sounds wonderful! Can always use a sleeve buddy!!!
  16. Hi All, This is the first time I have been able to post since my surgery last Tuesday, August 6th. I am doing fine but very tender and sore. They found a hiatal hernia and I had to have that repaired as well so that is creating some of the pain that I am having as well. My appetite has been pretty much non-existent but I am making myself drink and try to eat something. I am down 9 pounds since surgery but that is, I am sure, to be expected that first week when we are still recuperating from the surgery. I am ready to begin having creamed soups, eggs, cooked beans and yogurt next week, Tuesday I believe but who's counting. Any other August 6ers chiming in yet???

    August 6'ers?

I canot believe that next Tuesday is surgery day!!! I will leave for Tennessee on Sunday and then have a couple of appointments on Monday along with pre-op tests, admittance into hospital on Monday night, go to pre-op at 12:30 p.m., surgery at 2:00 p.m. and then recovery and back to the room. Freaking out a bit....really freaking out a bit. I've been through 4 surgeries with one of those being laproscopic(?), two abdominal surgeries and one not. But I am still freaking out about being put under and not waking up. Any words of wisdom and comfort??? Thanks!!!

    Smoking

I quit smoking 12 years ago and it was literally one of the hardest things I ever did. It also contributed to about 50 of the pounds I am wearing now..you know it wasn't pass me a piece of chicken or a slice of cake it was pass the whole darn thing. I also found that I had dreams where I would smoke again and I would wake up so angry with myself for giving in and then realize it had just been a dream. LOL At about the one week mark of having quit I was walking to my car and I wanted a cigarette so badly for that drive home. Eventually the cravings stopped and then I hated to be around anyone that smoked. The smell nauseated me horribly until about 2 years ago when, at times, I actually like to smell it. The first cravings I have had to smoke have been within the last year but I just don't want to have to redo that experience at all. I tried Patches, nicorette gum, weaning myself and then just went cold turkey and that was what stuck with me. Good luck on this journey to everyone who is going through it right now. Just another aspect of your healthier lifestyle that is getting ready to happen.

    August 6'ers?

Okay, so I've been pretty yucked out today drinking liquids again so call me masochistic but I wanted to see some of hte things I could eat AFTER I come off of liquids and soft foods. I headed over to the recipe forum here on Vertical Sleeve Talk and from there found the emilybites website. Then I found yumminess in the dinner muffin/cupcake section which shows how to create some wonderful savory cupcakes using wonton wrappers (which are low carb) in the place of Pasta and she has such a variety...lasagna, taco, meatloaf, buffalo chicken, french dip, etc. So I am stoked to try some of these when I get to that point. Just thought I would share.

    Lasagna Cupcakes!

I am still on pre-op but this thread and the emilybites website gave me hope for solid food in the future. So cannot wait!!!

    August 6'ers?

I am on day 8 of my preop diet and I am down 12 pounds so far. I have to say that I miss chewing food...hell, I miss tasting food and am looking forward to the time when I can actually do that. I was counting and it looks like I have at least 6 days like this, then three days Clear liquids and then 3-4 more days of the liquid like now before moving on to pureed foods. <sigh> Still nervous about being in surgery and have already started to worry about leaks and that I will be a slow loser.

    August 6'ers?

I am on day 7 of my pre-op and I am having a bit of a hard time. I tried the Bariatric Advantage high Protein Meal Replacement stuff on Saturday and the texture was so offputting then yesterday I tried the unjury protein mix stuff and that was even worse....I thought I was going to lose it before I even swallowed. I am drinking slim fast high Protein shakes but feel like I am not getting enough protein. I eat sugar free popsicles just to have something to bite into. Any suggestions on how to make it through the rest of this week and the beginning of the post-op diet? Did you find protein shakes that you could tolerate? Thanks!!
