  1. refried beans sounds soooo good. i have leftover meatloaf from dinner yesterday, but i'm not sure if i want to venture into it because it's beef and i was pretty sure it was only like 80% lean. my mom made it and she's a skinny mini, sooo.. lol

    Protein help

premier ready to drink shakes have been the only protein i have been able to drink save for isopure and i'm almost three weeks out. i can also sometimes stomach the body fortress chocolate peanut butter when i'm REALLY craving something sweet. but i love the premier shakes. they go down easy and are small, and still have 30g of protein!

    Coffee

i was and have been allowed to drink coffee with milk through pre-op and immediately post-op. i waited nearly two weeks post op to have it and it went right through me. only thing i've had so far post op that hasn't agreed with me, unfortunately.

  5. week 1 was clear liquids week 2&3 is full liquids week 3 is puree week 4&5 is soft foods week 7 or 8 is cleared for everything as tolerated. my surgeon has no leaks.
  6. I was told nothing but walking (and not on an incline!) for at least four weeks. she said i could go to the gym and do the eliptical and treadmill but that was it. disappointed because i'm out on disability and wanted to use the time i had for the gym.
  7. i'm 24 and i'm only 2 1/2 weeks post op and i do not regret this surgery already! i do know of one person who had the surgery done and was diagnosed with depression, but that's because she turned to food for emotional comfort and now that she couldn't, she had a really hard time with it. i made sure to work through all of that before getting the surgery, it's not a simple decision to make. my mother was very against my surgery until i brought her to a seminar and she actually saw what was going to happen/why i really needed this. my dad was against it until literally the moment i went in for surgery, and even then i think it was a "forced acceptance" just to make me feel better because i was going under the knife. whatever the reason, this is something you feel you need. sometimes you have to be a little selfish, it's your health and body on the line, not theirs. sometimes people need to be reminded of that. whatever you decide, good luck! everyone here is amazing and so supportive so you've come to the right place!

    First surgery

i've only had two surgeries, the sleeve and i had a radial shortening on my radius bone in my right arm (they cut out a part of my bone and put a metal plate and seven screws in it to hold it together!). between the two, my arm surgery was WAY more painful than the sleeve. the worst pain, honestly, was the gas pains. and for me there was some nausea right after surgery. but the best way to get rid of the gas pain is to walk, walk, walk! your abdomen will be sore for probably a week or two and the first couple of days i would compare to really bad period cramps or a stomach ache. but it really wasn't that terrible.
  9. i agree with the isopure. even though i was allowed protein shakes during stage one, i preferred the isopure because i wasn't sure i could stomach creamy things at first. the isopure was like protein packed kool aid, i would definitely recommend it.
  10. it all depends on what your guidelines are. i was told to not eat yogurt/cottage cheese with fruit with sugars more than 9 or 10g. i'm pretty sure those have more. it also depends on what stage of food you're on. i'm still on liquids and if i remember correctly we were sleeved around the same time so i know we're both not supposed to eat the fruit chunks that would be in them for a long time. if you're on pureed food you could try it, but like i said, i personally wouldn't eat it because there's too much sugar. i'm gonna do baby food puree fruit and plain cottage cheese to cut down on sugars.
  11. i'm still on liquids but when i go to puree's next week i'm going to try whipped cottage cheese with baby food fruit. much less sugar and they're already pureed.
  12. sip and walk. I had a glass of something in front of me at all times and after I would finish 8oz I would get up and walk around. the sooner I started doing "normal" things and got back to my daily routine, the sooner I started feeling better. good luck!
  13. i was told by my surgeon no lifting over 15lbs for four weeks. depending on how much you lift/carry at a time, that might hold it up.
  14. i can't stand when i hang out with my friends (i'm 2 weeks post op and still on liquids) and they get food and are like "is it okay if we eat this in front of you?" it drives me CRAZY. they act like i'll never be able to eat anything again. for example my friend got sushi the other day and brought it over and he was like "sucks you won't be able to eat this anymore" and i just went off on him (thanks raging hormones). it's tough to explain that eventually i'll be able to eat whatever i want, but it's just a matter of what i CHOOSE to eat. i get touchy with this subject haha!
  15. you WILL feel better each day. the first week is really tough, we all go through the emotions and the physical pain doesn't make it any easier. i'm 2 weeks post op and i'm definitely feeling like myself. it's just a matter of trucking through it, because, like everyone else is saying, it really does get better. hang in there, you made a great decision to better yourself!
  16. you could always say you're on antibiotics for the reason why you can't drink if you're not comfortable with telling people about the surgery. and then just order softer foods like fish.
  17. I'm looking for something to put on my stretch marks to help them fade. I've heard of cocoa butter, but I'm not a fan of it because it feels too slimy to me. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

    first week post op...

I was 297 on my day of surgery on 9/18. One week later I had lost 13lbs, down to 284. I'll be 2 weeks post op tomorrow, but I don't go to the dr 'til next week, I don't have a reliable scale, but I know I lost this week. My pants are loose! Lol.
  19. thank you all for the suggestions, i'm going to look into all of them!
  20. I know two people who went in with a cold and still got operated on. As long as it's a "head cold" and there's no congestion in your lungs, I believe they will still do it. I had a cold about three weeks before my surgery and took one Mucinexa day for two days and mine went away. Also drank a TON of water. Good luck!
  21. I lost this topic for a while! Sorry! How are you doing? Did you get your date yet? I'm doing wonderful. I'm on full liquids for another week, I'm ready for pureed food, haha!
  22. I did not like the idea of having my digestive system re-routed. And the band was way too scary, in my opinion. The port thing freaked me out. Having them take out 85% of my stomach seemed like the most straight forward answer. If I don't have it, I can't eat a whole loaf of bread anymore, right? But it was really the fact that I would still have my digestive system, just in a mini version that made me decide on the sleeve. but weigh your decisions and pick what is absolutely best for YOU! good luck!

    Questions for women only

I asked at my one week post op, I was told I could have been having sex since the day after. But let's be real, who wants to have sex then? But I waited until most of the soreness was gone, which was about ten days. Just remember, the more weight we lose, the better it will be!
