Terrified Of Eating Out!
Chelsi replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was so bummed out for the first month after my surgery because I was regularly going out to eat at least 1-3 times a week pre-surgery. I decided not to even tempt myself that early on, especially because I was on full liquids and purees until a month out. But I promise that eating out does get better! My husband and I go out at least once a week and then I usually go out once more with a friend or while I'm at work. Once you're cleared to eat everything it gets so much easier! Until then, if you have to go out, try and focus on soups or order sides or appetizers so it's a smaller portion. Good luck! -
Sleeping On Your Side Again?!
Chelsi replied to a_gray_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
took me about 2 weeks to sleep on my side again without pain meds. i used an extra pillow to hold up against my stomach and that seemed to help! -
any time i grab anything from the kitchen he follows me and sits patiently at my feet. he knows he's about to chow down on whatever i can't eat! haha. he really loves licking the yogurt container after i'm done.

i had three huge, very dark bruises from the heparin shots. they took a good month to heal, too. it scared the hell out of me, but my doctor reassured me it was normal.

What are the best low sugar, high protein bars that actually taste good?
Chelsi replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
omg you didn't like them? I didn't mind them. I definitely thought they taste better than some of the other protein bars I've tried. sorry! -
What are the best low sugar, high protein bars that actually taste good?
Chelsi replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was told to not use quest bars that much because of the sugar alcohols. so my NUT suggested pure protein bars. i like the vanilla chocolate baked one, it's like a candy bar! also their peanut butter chocolate one is really good. -

Recipes for pureed foods
Chelsi replied to Hollisterfan27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LMAO this made me spit out my diet snapple, thanks! i was just thinking this the other day about all the food commercials. but my go to on puree's was tuna fish. add a little mayo and mash it really well with a fork! it also comes in pouches which were really good for some different flavorings like sweet and spicy and lemon pepper. yummy! -

mine is caramel flavored so i should WANT to take it! it's the only thing i take midday, though. so i often forget it. i've gotten better since going back to work, i throw it in my lunch bag. -
A little tmi...constipation
Chelsi replied to Kelsnikol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had this problem when i started purees/soft foods. especially because we have a hard time getting in fiber with no raw veggies and fruits. i started taking miralax at night in 8oz of applejuice diluted with water and it helped me tremendously! after doing it for a few nights in a row i started going regularly again. but still call your surgeon first just to make sure there's not an obstruction because using anything could make it worse! -
This is going to be my saddest birthday ever
Chelsi replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my first wedding anniversary was four days before my surgery when i was on the pre-op diet. i was so mad that my husband couldn't take me out to dinner because i knew i would (most likely) cheat! i was so miserable until my mom suggested we do something fun to recreate something we did on our honeymoon that didn't involve food (we went to the san diego zoo, walked around the grand canyon). we settled on doing a spa day like we had done one of the days we were in arizona. we got massages and i got a mani/pedi. so it still felt special, but we left food out of it! it's possible! happy birthday! -

i confess i almost always forget to take my calcium. -
i'm actually cleared for roughage at 7 weeks, which will be the last thing i'm cleared for. but i would still check with your NUT first!
-
i usually bring cold cut rollups, meatballs in sauce, grilled chicken breast, hard boiled egg with salt and pepper, mini babybel cheese or a cheese stick/string cheese, a greek yogurt with a teaspoon of sf chocolate chips to add some "dessert like quality" - could add almonds or nuts too, i'm just not cleared for those yet). so long as you have a fridge available, of course!

What was your first pre-op soft meal?
Chelsi replied to AngelaTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the day i got home from the hospital i wanted tuna fish so bad. so that was the first thing i had. half a can of tuna with light mayo and a TON of garlic powder. mmm. it was heaven! haha! -
my doctor never set a calorie limit for me. all i was told was 60-80g of protein everyday and under 90g of carbs. i see a lot of people have calorie limits, idk why i was never told one!

5 1/2 weeks, what the heck !?!?
Chelsi replied to Band07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm 6 weeks post op and i have been feeling more "hungry". i know what you mean! especially when i first wake up i know i have to make myself a shake or a scrambled egg because i feel light headed and weak (like low blood sugar). i've just been keeping track of everything i eat with myfitnesspal and making sure i'm definitely getting my protein first. i also don't eat anything in the two hours that i previously ate, because i know i'm not really hungry, it's all psychological! i think our bodies are just adjusting. i know my surgeon said the longer we go post op, the more we can eat and whatnot. -
hm, that's weird? were you getting all of your fluids in? luckily i'm six weeks post op so i'm cleared to eat everything except raw fruits and veggies, nuts, and seeds. i'm dying for a salad! lol.

technically speaking for insurance reasons, dr agarwala was my surgeon so I saw him more pre-op. though now I really only see dr corpi (the woman, I think she is internal medicine). I have no complaints except on the actual day of surgery no one came out and told my mom that I had been moved from recovery to a room. she literally waited three hours before she went off on a nurse and found out I had been moved. overall I would say I am very happy with their team. I wish they had support meetings on weekends though because I'm in school and work in the evenings and never have off to go to support group. how about you? you said you had a bad recovery?
-
hey! we have the same surgeon! glad to hear you're feeling normal. i had a very speedy recovery, i guess i was one of the lucky ones!

What was worse? Pre-op diet vs. post-op
Chelsi replied to BigD35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
pre-op was harder because i still had a stomach that was used to taking in WAY too much food. i feel like i was always physically hungry. post-op was harder mentally. knowing there was stuff you could eat but not being able to was hard at first, but when i put it into perspective that my stomach had just been cut out and was healing, it was easier. i would say pre op was harder, but they were both difficult in their own ways. it's all about attitude and how you look at it. -
Gummy vitamins/vitamin chews
Chelsi replied to Bombs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no gummy vitamins because they don't have iron in them. I'm on centrum chewable vitamins the orange tablets. they're the only ones I'm allowed to have.
