    I'm Afraid of Bread...

A friend of mine told me about Explore Asian black bean and mung bean pasta. He swears they taste like regular but they have an obscene amount of Protein in them, like 24 gms or something silly. I haven't found anywhere close that sells them, he got his from whole foods.

    I'm Afraid of Bread...

I gave up bread years before surgery but by that I mean I didn't eat it routinely. Once in a while as a splurge. What I've come to realize since the surgery is there is little to no nutritional value in bread. Anything it gives us in the way of carbs, there are better ways to get those carbs. I do hope some day I can have some of my fresh baked bread with Brie or hot bread with butter melting into it, but I too am afraid of eating it for ALL if the reasons you mention. Mainly that I will have no problems with it. Ugh.

    Too tight? too short?

Thank you! It's 32 lbs in about 2.5 months but I am very, very happy with that. Since pre-op, I'm averaging about 3.2 lbs a week which seems incredible. I sort of can't believe it.
  4. you won't get a leak from drinking liquids. I used to fill a 32 oz bottle with something good to drink and sip at it all day, and try to finish it by 2-3 pm. Then I'd fill the bottle again and start over. I currently eat at 7 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm. It just seems to work with my work schedule. Find something that works for you, about 3-4 hours apart and just eat/drink a little Protein when the timer goes off. Rest of the time just sip, sip, sip
  5. You're only 2 weeks post-op right? Your sleeve is still swollen so that's fairly common. It will ease up with time.
  6. You do have to try to intake as much of your protein and water as you. An, really whether you feel hungry or not. Depending on what stage of your diet you're in, that could mean eating 4-5 times a day and drinking all the time in between. Otherwise you're likely to get dehydrated and lose muscle mass instead of fat. I'd suggest set a timer for yourself and eat or drink when it goes off. Good luck!
  7. What's normal for me is not normal for you. Are you veering away from your proscribed diet? Are you going over on your calories? Do you feel sick after eating? Do you feel overly full? If your answers to that are no, then you're doing okay.

    Fall cravings

The other things that I think would work for fall is stews and Soups. I have a tough time with the liquids with it, since they tend to make otherwise-hearty meat a slider for me. What I've learned to do is make my old stews and soups, take out the meat and shred it, and then top it with a little of the sauce and mix it well to moisten it. Did that with the fish curry today. All of the flavor, none of the guilt. Until it's time to throw away all the excess liquid, and then I feel guilty for wasting food!

    Sugar? Fat? Calories? Carbs?

I'm still struggling with Water so I do a g-2 and a few diet soda streams in water a day. But the reason I want to quit them is due to the research that suggests that the brain can't tell the diff between artificial and real sugar. When your sweet taste buds light up, it starts to secrete insulin thinking it's sugar. Laura, this reminds me of your "why not to chew and spit" post. Same thing really. To the OP, this is what I do at 8 weeks post-op. Calories between 600-700, Protein at 60-80 gms, carbs below 50 and the rest is fat. I aim for 13 gms of Fiber which is appropriate for my caloric Intake, and less than 25 gms of sugar. BUT. A lot of people have great success at simply monitoring total calories and total protein. The reason this doesn't work for me is because I used to be carb sensitive and I don't want to test myself quite yet. Many people here report losing on between 60-100 gms of carbs or more. So try out a few scenarios and focus not on weight loss, but on what makes you feel energetic and in control, and what you think you will be able to sustain in the long run. My 2 cents

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

I'm kinda shocked. My husband says it's the first time he's ever seen me sweat. I told him next time I'd turn the lights on Thank you for all the inspiration! Even if I don't make it all the way through, I started, and that's better than I've done before.

Where do I stop...goal weight related....

Did any of you set a body-fat goal rather than a weight goal? I think that's what I want to do and wondering if that works?

My docs instructions actually said to ahead and uses pieces, no need to eat bland food. Just try a little and see how your sleeve like it. Enjoy!
