no violation of laws, simply a matter of not assuming that metabolic rates are a constant function driven by nothing other than weight/age, (e.g., all 250 lb women lose weight if they eat 1200 calories) and that individual "machines" (humans) process information/calories differently, and that many other factors impact weight gain and loss rather than just calories in/calories out.

Sugar in alcohol metabolizes really easily to fat. Protein is harder to turn to fat. I'd try a little and see now you feel.

Autoimmune Issues and VSG?
gamergirl replied to Tjohnson322's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke to my Rheumy and learned something interesting. I'd gone 6 weeks with mo meds and then had to re-start. He said that in my case, there was almost no chance of remission, because I test positive for both Anti-CCP as well as Rheumatoid factor. If you are seronegative however, he says he sees remission after weight loss in those cases all the time. So that seems to be the deciding factor as to whether or not RA benefits from surgery. OA will almost definitely benefit, and SA will highly likely benefit. Even in my case, the 30 less lbs have made a difference for symptoms and ability to exercise more. He also said that when I lose more, we can try to take me off the Enbrel and only do methotrexate and see If it will work on its own, which would make me happy. -

4 weeks post op and eating too much!
gamergirl replied to ajames's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too average about. 3.2 lbs a week or less. If you're female, older, have thyroid or pcos, have had children, etc., we will lose slower than younger men and women. BUT, that's still 12-14 lbs a month! I would have killed for 12 lbs in 6 months before the surfer, let alone 12 lbs in 6 weeks. -

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the carbs making you crave MORE carbs and making you hungrier. That definitely happens to me. Some of us are just carb sensitive and eating them makes us want more. Live, learn, move on right? -
I actually jog so slow, I could probably pass myself if I simply walked!

My husband is asking the same thing. He said his stomach was sore from jostling around. Unfortunately my boobs aren't big enough to bother me. I'm almost but not quite sad about that!

Wow! You look great!! I bet that's very rewarding to see, after all your hard work. Good for you.

Yes I have, on two separate occasions. Once it was 2-3 oz of lean meat at each meal, unlimited veggies and protein shakes. The second time it was a lb of fresh veggies, lb of cooked veggies, 2-3 fruits, handful of nuts, 1 c of beans but no meat. Both times, no eggs or peanuts, no wheat, no carbs really. After the first, it cleared up my recurrent yeast infections which I had monthly for 6 months in a row. Both times, I felt SO full of energy! Esp after the no meat one, I was like Tigger. Great feeling. Would have kept at it for life except the carbs made my blood sugar go up

I haven't tried a taco shell but I can eat a lot more ground beef than I can of say, chicken or fish. Two things there for me. One is that it's so finely ground compared to a piece of chicken. But I also messed up one time and bought meat with more fat, I think it was 80/20 ground round imstead of lean meat, and the fat makes it go down easier for me. I have to watch out for it. I don't know how much you stuffed your taco but there was probably what? 2-3 oz of meat in each taco? That's not a lot. If you wrapped it in a tortilla, it may be that's a slider for you? I know people say it fills their tummy but maybe it doesn't for you. Or maybe you just ate it over too long and ended up grazing. Bottom line, it may not have much quite as much meat as you think, you may need to avoid tortillas, and as Lipstick lady says, no grazing. Also no beating yourself up. You're 4 weeks out, we are all learning how this works. I'm 8 weeks out and learn something about my new tummy every day. It's all good. -
High I think. I made doro wat the other day. The veggies and lentils should all work as should the meat. Surprisingly the injera doesn't have that many carbs/calories in it. At least in the quantities that we could eat. My husband makes the best injera but I think we will be eating one fourth of one! I think the bigger issue is how could you order little enough? It may be easier to learn to make it, unless your family has non-ops who also love it. My husband and I are both sleeved so I don't think we could even eat one order between us! But we too love it and have learned how to make it. Yum!

Can i have one night of drinking?
gamergirl replied to sleeveddoll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre-op's purpose is to shrink your liver. The way to shrink your liver is by restricting total calories, total carbs, and total fats. Alcohol contains two of those (calories and carbs/sugars), and is also pretty hard on your liver. You could therefore increase the chance of complications. As a trade-off, it's hard to see the upside. -
After surgery, are you still hungry?
gamergirl replied to sleeveddoll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I do get hungry. But it's very, very different. So I get hungry when I haven't eaten in 3-4 hours, and I felt this hunger within 1-2 days of surgery. This is not the "what shall i eat for funsies?" type of hunger. This is the "feed me now or I will pass out" type of hunger. I get light-headed, slightly nauseated and must eat right away. But then I eat 2 oz of food, and I'm good for the next 3-4 hours. I'm 8 weeks out and there has only been one day where I found myself standing in front of the pantry wondering what I should eat. At that point, I know it's head hunger not real hunger. Real hunger for me is light-headedness etc. PLUS I will eat whatever you give me including a piece of dry, tasteless chicken just to get fuel. And I find it is a LOT easier to control than the old days where I would forage like a wolf seeking prey and could not stop myself from eating useless food and useless calories. It is much easier to manage! I will tell you though that I found post-op much harder. It goes on a lot longer than pre-op. Weeks of Clear Liquids, full liquids, soft foods..and all the while you really want something crisp, salty, cheesy, gooey, etc. The consequences of breaking post-op could mean complications and death. This is serious stuff. That's why getting into the right mindset at pre-op is SO important. Once you start to think of it as necessary for health, and necessary for success, you're getting there. Once you start to believe and insist on success without cheating, you're getting there. Once you refuse to take any unwarranted risks, and hold firm, it gets easier. If you keep thinking "I can cheat with no consequences as long as it is (insert excuse here)" or "I'm losing weight on pre-op so I'll just have a (insert bad thing here)" you're leaving the door open for bad choices. I am very creative about excuses and I can convince myself that chocolate is good for me. I have to not start debates with myself because my evil twin wins those. You kind of have to think of compliance with pre- and post-op as NON-NEGOTIABLE. I know not every one agrees with me on this, but this is just what worked for ME. YMMV -
So I don't like tuna and therefore didn't try with Tuna. This one has shrimp in it already, but more crab. And I don't think Salmon would "lump"as well, I think it would be smooshier, but I do think it would taste as good with either salmon or tuna.

I think my husband bought just the crabmeat. He did ask whether he should go to the asian grocery store and get a live crab but I pretty told him I'd leave him if he did that, so he settled for Central Market instead I'm such a hypocrite.
