  3. I'M now 9 weeks post op. I've gone from not being able to eat 500 calories to wanting more than 700 calories. I'm not eating junk. I'm doing at least 70 gms of Protein, less than 50 of carbs and they are all complex carbs. No Pasta, bread, sugar. I'm drinking at least 48 oz of Water plus shakes and coffees. I'm taking an antacid everyday. I eat about 2-3 oz of protein 5 times a day. Still no room for veggies, fruit etc in substantial quantities. But I'm hungry, esp at night. Real hunger, not head hunger. Recently I added a very small amount of walking/jogging/biking. I might burn 150-175 cals with it which is not much but I've gotten hungrier. I've lost 33 lbs in 11 weeks with a 12-day stall at w3 and am currently in a 10+ day stall. I want to be able to add 100 calories on the days I feel hungry and not worry. But I am concerned that will slow my weight loss down even more. Technically I know that's still a deficit, given that I'm 5'6 and weight 196 lbs but I'm not sure. I also don't want to be at a very low calorie diet forever and ruin my metabolism any more than it's already jacked up. I know the logical thing to do is to add it and see what happens but since I'm stalled right now, I'm not sure how I'd know? Would love some advice from others esp about what you did as you were at my weight but even generally how your calories migrated as you were further out from surgery. Thanks guys.

    Depressed and sad

yeah i've had some mood swings too. It's not easy is it? Maybe take the time to make yourself something that you really like and can eat? Give yourself a treat that's not food-related and maybe that might help too. When I get like that I tell myself that at least there's nothing really wrong in real life, so it could be worse. And then I read or play games or talk to someone until it passes. Sorry you're going through that, but it's normal, and it will pass. Hang in there!

Hmmm.... I don't know. If I were you, I'd try a small serving without it. I think the pumpkin and egg should bind just fine together. Ideally you'd put in a little milk or something to make a custard but there's the lactose again. Do lactaid pills not work for you? They work great for me and allow me to introduce some variety into what I'm eating.
  13. This is DonRodolfo's fault. He asked for a sleeve-friendly taco recipe so here's mine. Pics on the blog at http://sleevers.wordpress.com/2013/10/05/taco-casserole-high-protein-gluten-free-low-carb/ Yesterday was national Taco day and I wanted a taco. Well, let’s be honest, I just wanted a taco and it happened to be National Taco day which was a great excuse! I’ve been wanting to try this very simple casserole that would be family-friendly. Unlike many of my recipes, this does rely on ready-made seasonings and a can (gasp!) but what the heck. It still tasted great! I made this with no chips or taco shells. Ingredients 1 lb lean ground beef 1 tbsp taco seasoning (I use a big jar from Costco) 1 c fat-free refried beans (Rosarita’s can). 1/2 c grated cheese 4 campari tomatoes chopped Garnish Sour cream Guacamole Salsa Chopped Onions Chopped lettuce Method 1. Brown ground beef and add taco seasoning. Mix well. 2. Heat oven to 400 degrees 3. Layer taco meat in a pan. I used a glass one because I thought it would be pretty to see the layers. The boys came into the kitchen attracted by the smell and dug into it before I could take a picture so…maybe use whatever you want. 3. Empty half a can of the refried beans. Add enough water to liquefy slightly. You want this to be like a thick pancake batter so you can spread it around properly. Once this is done, spread on top of the taco meat. 4. Cover mixture with cheese, and chopped tomatoes. My dog loves raw tomatoes so I had to chop an extra one. YMMV. 5. Bake in oven for 20 mins or until cheese is melted. If you want the top browned, turn your oven to broil and have at it. My kids were too hungry to wait. 6. Serve with garnishes on the side and let each diner pick their toppings.

Soft-foods Low-carb High protein Taco Casserole

Try the pumpkin caramel bake as well. soft food, high protein. Not as good as a real desert, but beats a protein shake!
  15. I wonder if it's helpful to think in terms of what we CAN'T easily eat at that time? I couldn't do dry meats, whole meats (like a chicken breast, chops, steaks, etc.), popcorn, nuts, raw veggies or fruits. Other than that, what did you used to eat pre-op? Should be able to do most of those things. I cooked all the meat in the pressure cooker or in the crockpot so it was moist and falling apart, and we did well with that. Most of the recipes on my blog were things we ate that were cooked soft. We still eat the same way because dry meat is still difficult for us. I posted a taco casserole today that is soft and very easy to eat. It may be easier for you to think of specific recipes or things you used to cook, and as long as it's not a dry hunk of meat, you should be good to go.
