I'm so embarrassed by my before pics and I'm not even half way yet, but thought I'd be brave, and share where I'm at. I'm 5'6, HW 230, CW 195 so 35 lbs down. Went to see my PCP. The whole office gets excited when one of us has an appt because we usually accompany each other, and they're DYING to see our weight loss. The doc said my husband and I had already had more success than some of her sleeved patients EVER see. That was a sobering thought and should scare us all into being diligent. She congratulated us on being so proactive about it and said that our focus on health and activity was good because the people who put it back on are invariably focused on a short-term goal like fitting into a dress or going to a reunion. She ordered me to stop obsessing, stop being as type A as I was, and to cut myself some slack. So I will try And my thyroid meds were reduced for the second time since surgery. Yay! Ok I've blabbed long enough to delay posting my picture but here it goes. -
Feeling emotional. How will this be different? More pre-opper musings

oh fricking heck! WHY AM I THINKING OF CAKE? Cave. Cave hiking. No cake for me. You know something weird? We went to a grocery store here, and they had samples out. One of the samples was an entire fricking cake! Like a whole wonderful white cake with red gooey things and icing and whatnot just sitting out. I guess the idea was you just walked up to it and cut yourself a slice? I was amazed there was anything left. Like, people were just walking by it and I was going "People! There's CAKE there!" At the very least you would have thought there would be a stampede but nope. But then I walked by it as well, left it untouched. I guess my subconscious hasn't let go of that cake yet. Sigh.

Oh I did so well today! 3.3 miles of walking/hiking uphill, 60 mins of snorkeling half of which was against the current. I prob put on 2 lbs from just swallowing sea water. Btw, don't waste time snorkeling the Garrafon reef. Nothing to see! Anyway puts me at 46.7 miles on walking/biking. Tomorrow is cake hiking and snorkeling so we shall see. Can my fitbit go snorkeling with me, does anyone know?

And really we don't plan to wait until 2014 for them either

We're at the kids table remember? That means no matter how little we do, people have to cheer for us. Kinda like we say to our kids "you brushed your teeth! Yay! What a good boy you are!" for all the stupid everyday sh/t they do. Same here. Coz we're at the kids table. You don't have to make 100 miles. We just have to do our best. Speaking of which I just snorkeled my ass off for an hour swimming against the current.

Worried about enjoying food after surgery? Don't be.
gamergirl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So if you're worried you won't ever be able to enjoy a vacation again because you can't eat your way through a country, I'm here to tell you that you will. My husband and I are in Cancun--well Isla Mujeres to be precise, and we have so thoroughly enjoyed our food so far. We are three months post-op. We tend to get one appetizer and split it for snacks, and one split entree works for dinner. So far, we have feasted on shrimp tacos (no tortillas), chile relleno filled with chorizo and cheese, grilled lobster tails, omelets with veggies and a side of fruit, shrimp cocktail in the best pico de gallo with guacamole, and our favorite dinner tonight. We went to Valasquez on the beach and sat outside to watch the sun set into the ocean. The fresh fish of the day was Red Snapper so we decided to do a whole snapper in garlic for both of us. They brought us chips and at first we refused, but then we noticed the pico de gallo and guacamole on the side. We used the chips to scoop them up and this was indeed the best guacamole and pico de gallo of the trip so far! We split the small snapper between us and let me tell you, sitting by the ocean with your love, watching the sun set, enjoying a healthy dinner together? Doesn't suck. We passed on all the chips and tortillas offered to us. We've each had 1 tsp of rice and beans at main meals. But really, we're enjoying the fresh seafood and it feels just like the old days, except we're full with a lot less. So you may not eat as much as before, but if you're like us, we find that we enjoy what we eat as much as we did before. Even more so, because it doesn't come heavily sauced with guilt. Love my sleeve. I hope this helps some of you who are either worrying about this, or are so close to post-op that you think you will never enjoy food again. -

I don't see it as a hijack at all! I think all threads are just conversation starters, and from there, they go where they should I was really glad you posted because I had indeed missed it in the other thread. I need to redo w1 anyway which I will likely do w/o 28 when I am back home. -
That made me LOL

You know what it is? It's unfair. It's unfair that we have bodies that don't process food like others' bodies do. It's unfair that we have to have this surgery while others eat junk and never put on weight. It just is. I had to accept that and stop being angry about it because I sure as heck was angry about it. But then I accepted that I had been unfairly LUCKY in many ways in my life too, so it was okay that I got the bum end of the deal on this one. The applesauce and protein is just temporary and only so you can even the playing field in your favor a bit. It'll be worth it. Hang in there! -

Even cheaper than you realize because you can't really drink You'll be able to eat everything. You'll likely choose not to eat certain things as we are doing, but it really isn't that big a deal. I've yet to go to any restaurant where I couldn't find something healthy for me to eat. -

I started it and had to stop because of RA but I fully intend to try again. I'm determined to do it. I got through the first week just fine, and then had a flare-up, but I don't think it was related to running. Maybe we'll struggle through that together -

I've lost 35 lbs since pre-op with lots of stalls. At least 3 stalls that have lasted at least 12 days each. So it's slow but steady. I tell myself that means my skin will bounce back sooner. Who knows if that's true or not? -
well my big achievement today was that I napped like a champion! All two hours between 11 and 1. Is there a challenge for that? One measly mile today for a 43.4
