I think this would work as a post-op soft food. Just go easy on the coconut or delete it all together, and you should have a nice little treat for yourself. http://wp.me/p4xzFh-uK

I also have a Paleo coconut candy recipe there that uses coconut oil. That one is pure delicious.

My Lunch: A Pictorial Attempt To Show You Life Will Be Normal
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I made Chocolate Coconut "Fudge" with chocolate protein powder. It ended up having 8 gms protein, 8 gms fat, and 7 gms net carbs. Not bad for a treat! And no cooking either, which makes it perfect. Interestingly, I think if you omitted the coconut, this would actually qualify as a soft food for post-surgery. Not bad eh? http://twosleevers.com/2014/05/chocolate-coconut-protein-fudge/ -
Fearful of the surgery and the eating lifestyle
gamergirl replied to ilovenyc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There is actually quite a bit of research suggesting that it is more than the restriction. Two hypotheses are one change in gut Flora. Two, changing the way your bile acids function. There's no other way to explain why people come off their meds within a week of surgery. It is a re-set of a different sort. in fact mice with simply restriction and none of the other changes did not lose weight. This makes it even more critical to not go back to eating crap like before. Surgery is a reboots to our systems, and the chance to maximize results for the rest of our lives. -
4 Things I Wish I Would've Known Pre Op
gamergirl replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I had known: 1. I would still fight real hunger after surgery 2. I would still be on a "diet" and have to carefully control my calories and carbs to lose weight 3. That maintenance is exactly like the weight loss phase. You still measure, weigh and track with the reward being, not weight loss but no increase. 4. That it WOULD actually work no matter that nothing else had worked before. 5. That I would have to accept my thinner but not perfect body and that would take mental work but that I would get there and be able to love the way I looked. So so so worth it guys, don't hesitate. -
Dr. Ganta (Austin), Dr. Kim (Dallas)
gamergirl replied to Q2theT's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
One question I suggest you ask about, is how many surgeries each doctor performs in a day. I have heard very different stories about how many Dr. Kim does in a day. He was not my doctor, so I don't really know. -
5+ Week Stall - Extremely Frustrated HELP!
gamergirl replied to m@ry's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not to add confusion Mary, but please don't cut salts too much. When we are on a high Protein diet with very low carbs our body tends to get rid of more Water and salt. In fact most of us are advised to eat a little more salt than me might have previously done. More likely what is happening, is that your body has just decided to stall. It's being pigheaded and irritating. If you are tracking your food, keeping calories low, keeping carbs low and protein high, then you are doing what you need to. Personally I agree that exercising does slowdown many peoples weight-loss, especially at the beginning. But that is a personal choice, because exercise has many other benefits as well. My advice to you is to hang in there, and keep doing what you are doing. Over the last 9 to 10 months I have read many such stories of people who stalled early out who then went on to become quite successful. I'm sure you will be one of those too. I have to remind myself constantly that I do not control my weight. I control what I put in my mouth and how much I move about but I do not control my weight. For now think of success as sticking to your regimen. Let go of the outcome and just be patient. I know, it's not easy is it? -
I think many of us do struggle with head hunger. What works for me is to ask myself if I will eat chicken. Chicken thunks in my sleeve. If I'm willing to eat chicken, I'm really hungry :-). If I find myself asking, let's see, what sounds good? Then I know it's head hunger. As to blood sugar crashing, as teachamy suggests, eating regularly is the best way to avoid sugar crashes. Completely different from head hunger.

Trying not to freak out...
gamergirl replied to SparkleCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry you're having to deal with this. After all, we did just get our stomachs cut on. it wouldn't surprise me if he had some pain afterwards. I know I felt extremely sore and like somebody had punched me in the stomach for several weeks afterwards. Leaks also come with high fevers and other symptoms, not just a little rumbling in the stomach. I know it's easy for me to say but try not to borrow trouble. I'm no expert, but I believe if you had a leak it would hurt at other times as well. From the stories I read here Leaks are fairly unmistakable most of the times. Why not just think of this as regular recovery until somebody tells you otherwise? Somebody professional that is :-) -

Almost 10 months out and having trouble losing weight
gamergirl replied to JessicaAnn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yeah that seems pretty low. VERY low. LEt's say your exercise machine is wrong in it's estimation and you are only burning 500 (because they often over-estimate). That still puts you at 500 calories or so which is low. Would you be comfortable trying to increase by 100 calories for a week to see what it does? Might be worth it. -
I post recipes that make 4 sleever meals because our son doesn't usually eat what we do www.twosleevers.com

You said you had stopped eating much for a while. The last time that happened to me, after being extremely ill, it was an absolute chore to make myself eat. I think once we get into that mode where we stopped eating enough to sustain ourselves, it's very very difficult to start eating again. I had to force myself. In fact my husband had to force me. I had to eat small quantities whether I felt like it or not. Of course than the appetite came back and I wasn't happy then either :-) wonder if that isn't some of it with you? where your body just got used to less food and now nothing sounds good.

Almost 10 months out and having trouble losing weight
gamergirl replied to JessicaAnn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will probably be the minority opinion here, but I know for me I could not lose weight eating 1000 cal. I only lose if I'm somewhere between seven and 800 cal, and even at that I don't lose very much. I wonder if it would help to reduce calories and see if that helps? But you also said you work out. It's possible that your net calories may already be at 700 to 800 after you take into account what you burn. In that case ignore me :-) what do your macros for Protein fat and carbs look like? -
Stop losing after 9 months
gamergirl replied to bmore7575's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do think logging and measuring are critical to our long-term success. At first, we can't eat too much. But later it's very possible to eat too many calories. Some of us are also very carb sensitive. For us tracking total carb grams is very critical. My advice to you to get back on track would be to start logging all your food before a week. The end of the week take a look and see what you need to shift with respect to total calories Protein carbs etc. I too am at nine months post surgery. I eat on average 800 cal, 60 to 70 g of protein sometimes more, and under 40 or 50 g of carbs a day. I do this because I'm trying to lose the last 10 pounds. -

To the folks who had their surgery in the US and comment on the Mexico forum...
gamergirl replied to O-Town Body Rock's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thank you for saying this. Not only did my husband and I go to Mexico for surgery, I was also raised in what so some you would refer to as a "third world country" where ironically, the standard of care and expertise meet or best American standards. I feel for anyone who has had complications no matter where they were operated on. But that doesn't give you license to -a) generalize against a whole country! And put down other cultures. -
Where has Laura-Ven, butterbean and gamergirl gone? ?

Hey if I'd been on the site I would totally have missed you! glad you're back. -
I will echo a lot of what lipstick lady says. I am embarrassed by what I looked like when I started. It doesn't mean I judged what anyone else looked like. How I feel about me has nothing to do with how I think about anyone else. We are always nice to other people than we are to ourselves anyway aren't we?

I find that my diet affects it quite a bit. I eat low carb (under 50 gms) and avoid grains and sugar. Not sure what else there is to do. Fish oil hasn't helped in the past and makes me nauseous if I try it now.

I have a disease called Obesity. I LOVE THAT. It's such a good way to put what we will deal with for the rest of our lives. Thank you for that. I will PM you for details on the "whip off" technique. I assume you mean 5:2 yes? -
Right now, the smallest bit of exercise is causing my RA to flare up so I don't have that advantage

So puresouthernsoul and I took this quiz. Two devout agnostics...and we both got just one wrong (And I don't think I got mine wrong at ALL, I think they are confused ) So two godless heathens basically outperformed most of religious America How did you do? http://pewrsr.ch/1jquoj9

What percentage is your protein, carb and fat intake daily?
gamergirl replied to mommyjamie's topic in Food and Nutrition
I try to do 40/40/20 on P/F/C and usually end up closer to 35/40/25. I don't worry about fat it's the carbs I try to keep below 50 gms. But it took weeks if not months after surgery to get there. Initially I just tried to hit the protein numbers
