Hi there! I just posted a new high-protein, low carb recipe. Pictures and nutritional details at http://sleevers.wordpress.com/2013/12/08/shrimp-with-cotijo-and-tomatillos/ Makes 4 bariatric servings, probably feeds two non-ops Ingredients1 Tbsp vegetable oil 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 jalapeno chiles, seeded, minced 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced 1/2 lb tomatillos, chopped Salt 1/8 cup water 1/2 lb shrimp, cleaned, deveined 1/2 cup Cotija queso seco cheese (can substitute feta) 1/8 cup chopped cilantro Lime juice Black pepper MethodHeat oil in a pan. Add the onions and jalapeños, cook for 5 minutes on medium high until the onions begin to brown. Add the garlic and cook a minute more. Add the tomatillos, reduce heat to medium and cook for 10 minutes, until the tomatillos are cooked through, but still hold their shape. Sprinkle salt over the tomatillos as they are cooking. Add the 1/8 cup of water. Add the cheese and shrimp and cook until the shrimp cook through, about 10-15 minutes. Remove pan from the oven. Right before serving, mix in the cilantro and sprinkle with lime juice and freshly ground black pepper.

Did anyone NOT lose their hair after surgery?
gamergirl replied to Anothercasey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hair goes through phases, a growing phase, a resting phase, and a falling phase. After surgery, more hair enters the falling phase at once so we lose a lot of it suddenly. Weight loss, anesthesia, and very low calorie diets all contribute. As someone who already had thin hair and had already cut it short, and who started losing it a month ago, it's pretty sad. I was looking into extensions but that hasn't worked due to logistics. I'm using root booster mousse which makes a huge difference and being patient. Lots of women do talk about extensions, cutting it short, and wigs. This morning I kept trying to pat down some sticky outy hair and realized it was new hair! Yay! Came in grey of course -

You are welcome! I have recipes for soft foods on my blog that you might enjoy? Definitely try the chocolate mousse and the high protein pudding, but there are a few others that might be fun to shoot for, including the amazing cheese souffle that my husband made yesterday. -

What to use for constipation
gamergirl replied to Yoly617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted something that would re-set my own system so I started to use Align probiotic capsules. I use one a day and it has made a huge difference for me. The miralax etc work well for emergencies, but ideally we'd do something that keeps us happy full time. -

And I think all beliefs are welcome. I thought this was cleverly done to express both beliefs in one post. -

Woo hoo! That's so fantastic! That would have been hard after a 30-year relationship even without the sleeve. Good for you! I notice that I'm a lot more playful with my husband than I used to be. Sometimes I call him over to see how my new lingerie fits when I know perfectly well it fits just fine So is this someone there could be something more with potentially? -
Oh Linda you should make it and post it! People get so sick of the routine soft foods, they will be existed to see something simple but tasty like that.

Well they ate it all. We shared with our housekeeper and my 23 year old is home so he ate two big helpings and then snacked on it this evening. It's so weird to have no leftovers since he came home! I love it but it also means I'm always cooking and so is Roger.

Good luck on the surgery! Are you excited? I'm sure you will do wonderfully well. New life ahead--complete with soufflé

Discussing a sleeve in Mexico with your general practitioner
gamergirl replied to readytobehealthy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my PCP about it and left no room for discussion to be honest. I said I was getting this procedure and I wondered if she could provide the after-care. She is a very cautious person and at first said she couldn't help etc., but has been so solicitous of us since then. My husband went to her for his check-in today and showed our picture. The doctor took it around the office and showed it to everyone and the office staff were streaming in to check it out after that. She did try to open the conversation about not being able to sue someone in Mexico etc. but we had printed out the doctor's resume and it was hard for her to argue against a PERSON (Dr. Alvarez) rather than a concept (unknown doctor in Mexico). I spoke firmly and securely and didn't leave the door open to be argued against and she picked up those cues. Maybe that will workf or you as well? -

I really liked this approach of determining the underlying reasons for why we got fat. I suspect most of us will have multiple reasons and do a "1 from column A, 2 from column B" type of approach, but it helped me think through what underlying behaviors need to be be addressed for different people. Synopsized from Dr. Sharma's Obesity blog post, food insecurity vs. binge-eating syndrome), may well present with exactly the same amount of excess body fat and identical clinical complications (e.g. diabetes, reflux disease and urinary incontinence). On the other hand, two individuals, gaining weight for exactly the same reason (e.g. on anti-psychotic medications), may present with quite different complications (e.g. sleep apnea vs. osteoarthritis). The authors are certainly correct in their statement that, “Obesity is a heterogeneous and complex disease influenced by exogenous and endogenous exposures. Stratifying obesity into meaningful subtypes could provide a better understanding its causes and enable the design and delivery of more effective prevention and treatment interventions.”

I am not a cheesecake fan either. You can't taste the cheesecake flavor. It was so dang rich tasting and it sure went thunk. All of us loved it. I'm sure it would work as well with vanilla pudding mix. -
Globe can you measure body fat with calipers? I'm sure your body composition is changing with all that exercise. At the very least, can you track inches maybe?
