Really? Really, youve got to be kidding me!

Just know that this is one where there is no one right answer. I told some close friends and they were SOOOO supportive that i was like....what the heck?? Is no one going to say "You don't need it??" So THAT pissed me off too hee hee. Hey you know what? People are insensitive. They mean well but it doesn't always translate. Can't let it bother you. She was trying to be "helpful". -

I haven't seen any on here apart from what I posted. I will do a search and see what I can find that sounds authentic. -
Look at the differences between serving sizes. 6 gms sounds like 1/4th of the packet of Syntrax which is a fourth of the serving.

It's contagious!

This is how it happened with me and and my husband. I told him I was doing it, and asked for his help in encouraging me to stay on plan. What resonated with him was I said I had no idea how long I would live, but I intended to spend that time as a thin person, able to do things I wanted to before I died. He realized he wanted the same thing. I can NOT tell you how beneficial it has been to have a buddy go through it at the same time. We did our pre-op together, we had surgery the same day, and now we're recovering together. We can support each other, we can share experiences, and we can take care of each other. I don't know if your sister lives close by, but it would be so good for both of you to be able to help each other through this, even if she lives far away. -
How soon after surgery did you come off your "lifestyle" meds?

I have to convince him that he definitely does not know anything on this topic and that "just" a call will solve all this He was checking BP and Sugar. And he is light-headed. And i will work on him until he calls the doc. if I wasn't so stubborn myself, he would drive me nuts. But I get it so I'm trying to be nice. -

It's an indian home-made cheese that is quite nutritious. We ate spicy food--or more accurately drank spicy food/broth--after 4 days and we've been doing well with it. -

So i asked around on this topic. I eat meat but I don't enjoy it. One of the great suggestions I got was to make your soup, and then when it's cold, mix in some unflavored Protein powder. Then when you re-heat, do so very slowly so it doesn't clump. I'm looking forward to trying that. In a thread I started about Vegetarian sleevers, I posted a pic of an example vegetarian day where I think you could get 80+ gms of protein from vegetarian food. Would love to see some of yours suggestions in that thread as well. But it's soft/solid foods, not on liquids where you and I both seem to be. I also reached out to another vet sleever and she sent me some good suggestions, which I will share with you via PM. Grass eaters, unite! -

I'm so glad you posted about this, because I too have wondered if will have the faith and conviction this time to GET RID of the bigger sizes, and believe that this time, this time I won't need them again. I'm not sure.

Doing the weightloss happy dance...

This post made me smile and share in your happiness. So glad for you! -
I am a believer in something else apart from organized religion. I have a hard time verbalizing what it is other than the golden rule, and potentially a larger plan and that the Universe unfolds the way it should, but that's good enough to start with. At the risk of angering some fundamentalists, I have to say in my case, lack of faith in a conventional God is not a choice. I kinda see it like being gay. Either you are, or you aren't. Either you are able to believe in God in the conventional way, or you can't. I've never succeeded in forcing it.

Thank you guys for piping up so quickly. So he does have a home device and he's been showing low. I shared all the advice you guys gave, and was just now told that he has self-doctored to cut out his BP meds and his metformin since his sugar has been within normal ranges. Now begins the campaign to get him to call the doctor about it. I'm shocked how quickly this has happened. How cool eh?! Thanks all. -
Calorie in/out question
gamergirl replied to Tam180's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl, if that calorie in vs. calorie out applied to my fat-saving body, I'd have looked like Twiggy years ago! I ate 800 cals a day for MONTHS and didn't lose anything. But I agree, a lot of your 5 lbs sounds like Water weight from salty foods, not fat gain. -
Start of new chapter in my life!
gamergirl replied to trillian135's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My husband and I have been complication-free so far as well. It's early for us, only 10 days, but like Cindy, if it weren't for the scars, the inability to eat much, and the tiredness that comes on me too easily, I too would wonder if anything had changed. Apart from the most important thing which is that R has lost 20 lbs and I have lost 19 lbs in 3 weeks! NEVER in our lives have we managed that before. I was almost afraid to post my "not too bad" recovery story because I thought I might be giving people false hope because surely it's not that easy for everyone? So I'm doubly glad to see this post. Glad to hear you're doing well, and glad that this "not too bad" is in fact the norm for many, if not most of us. -
Craving veggies, but they're srill rough :(
gamergirl replied to KayCTheNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 days post op and am having no trouble with cauliflower, onion, and mushrooms--as long as they are cooked well and pureed well. I think the cooking well thing may have something to do with it. -

Thank you! What an interesting idea. i will try this when we can eat food, which is only about half an eternity away. -
I'm a recovering academic lol! I used to conduct research on how to teach drug addicts better decisioning, and would evaluate drug abuse treatment programs and ways to reduce needle sharing amongst HIV-drug users. Still evaluate programs now, but for large Fortune 500 companies mostly, and it's their marketing programs we're focusing on, not so much on their crazy, drug-using populations.

Day 7 of liquid pre-op and I haven't killed anyone yet
gamergirl posted a blog entry in Gamergirl's Blog
It's almost getting to be a routine. Veg soup and Protein at every meal. An SF popsicle to wash down dinner. Yesterday was the first time I didn't need a nap and was alert, and productive throughout the day. The previous few days, I'd really started to worry about how I was going to work because I couldn't string two thoughts together and all I wanted was a nap. It's funny, I'm not really hungry, but today, I want to BITE into something--or someone, when I'm feeling cranky I haven't been as cranky as I thought I would be--but I want to CHEW something. I feel grateful that I have this opportunity to do something that seemed impossible, and win at it. It sends me into surgery with a feeling of power and control. And I need that. Being--or feeling--powerless over my weight for all these years really affects my self-image. I don't feel this helpless about anything else in my life. Tomorrow, we drive 11 hours to go to my ex-husband's wedding reception. Then Sunday we do it all over again, except in reverse. I can't eat anything at the reception. R and I will just have to have our shakes before. He's in the kitchen, getting the "travel soups" ready. Anyone who says this is the easy way out has no idea what they're talking about. I have a feeling i will be saying this with even more vehemence after the surgery when I'm in pain But hey, 7 days down, and I'm still on track. Yay me! -
I started watching a surgery and then the world spun and I had to lie down so I never finished...

Gah me too. I am not a patient person at the best of times, and then you run into this folks who don't even start with a script and you're like, really??! seriously? SMH.
