    Going on a plane

I travel a lot as part of my job and asked the surgeon when it was safe to fly again, and he said immediately. He reminded me that many of his patients flew back home right after the surgery and that it was no problem. Have fun!

    Caesar Salad Bites

I used to do that too! Every Sunday I used to make refrigerator oatmeal, salad jars, 2-3 Proteins, and 2-3 complex carbs and we'd eat for most of the week without having to go out. Can't wait to be able to get back to some (smaller) version of it once we're back on solids. Made me happy to see your jars this morning. After 5 weeks of liquids, it's good to know some things do return to "normal" in time.

    Telling the kids

I think it's best to tell the teachers that you will be out for some surgery, no need to specify what kind. If the kids are upset at school, or misbehave, it would help if the teachers could be a little more understanding if they knew that kids were reacting to your being gone. My kids told their teachers all KINDS of stuff over the years that I really wish they hadn't, but I think teachers have learned to be discreet and are unlikely to spread it about.

    Autoimmune Issues and VSG?

I read a post where someone no longer had to take meds for RA or thyroid after their sleeve because of no inflammation after the weight loss. Those are the only things I take meds for, so I'm really hopeful that I can at least reduce my dosages for both. Fingers crossed!

    Manwich Meatballs

    Yummy! Thank you.
  6. Wow I feel for you. Mine isn't physical and I'm concerned. Maybe you could try more carbs and calories too and see if it helps?
  7. My surgeon wrote me back and said I needed to up my calories and my carbs. I was at 450-650 on calories and he said get to 700-800. I was at under 50 for carbs and he said that's too low, and was why I was so tired. So I had some black bean soup, and some applesauce today, and will try to add some complex carbs in over the next few days. Maybe they will help.

    4 months post op

There's a thread here of people joining arch other Pinterest. I think my user id is Statgamer, and you can follow my small bites and Paleo pages as well as most of the crockpot and pressure cooker ones. I looked for Paleo, WLS, and high protien, low carb on Pinterest searches. Edit: correct user id. Doh!

    Autoimmune Issues and VSG?

Not for another week. The surgeon said to increase calories and carbs and see if that helps,,so I'm going to try that today. How about you? Can you get back on meds before Labor Day?
  13. I'm convinced by the time this is all over, I will likely be bald and wrinkly, but hopefully i'll also be skinny!

    My protein bar rankings

I'm curious about the quest bars. I ordered them pre-op but when they arrived I was already on liquids. Everyone says they taste good, but they seem to have a lot of fiber. Nutritionally of course this is a plus, but can a newly sleeved tummy hold that much fiber without distress?
  15. So my doctor wrote back. Increase calories to 700-800, increase carbs. Apparently it's too early to limit carbs to under 50 gms. Who knew? I see fruit smoothies and Soups with sweet potatoes in my future! Yum. Thanks to all who held my hand this morning. I needed it
  16. So 16 days out. No complications, no pain, was going great, been working out lightly since day 4 trying not to overdo it. My big problem right now is that I have gone from feeling GREAT to feeling terrible. I am light-headed, dizzy, feel like I am going to pass out every time I stand up, and my BP is a tad low. Lowest was 110/55, and other readings have been 109/65 etc. I've always been a little on the low side. Pulse has been high for me like 84, 96 etc. My resting pulse is usually 70. Brain is fuzzy, can't read 2 pages of a book without getting distracted. Spent most of yesterday in bed which is very unusual for me. Made myself get on the stationary bike for 20 mins thinking it would energize me. Nope. Couldn't even stand long enough to make my son's dinner. WTH?? Btw, I'm getting between 500-650 cals daily, 80+ gms of Protein, less than 50 carbs and at least 64 oz of Water. We're on full liquids for another week. I've written to my doc in Mexico but I haven't heard back. It's worrisome that I've gone from feeling great to not being able to get out of bed, and I'm pretty sure it's a Vitamin or mineral deficiency but I'm the wrong kind of doctor to know. I wish I knew what was going on. I see my local PCP on Monday so will ask her to run tests. So I'm just whining and hoping someone has an answer to what's going on. Did anyone else go through this? What was the issue? What worked?

    So that's it

Wonder how long before your meds kick in and you feel better? Soon I hope!((hugs))
  18. I will follow Nurse Amy's advice and I intend to show this to my husband so he can stop harassing me about getting up and doing something
  19. I have a desk job unless I travel. I decided not to travel. I did take phone meetings on day 5 although I really didn't want to. I had hoped to be alert and able to participate in meetings this week. No go. I was able to do some, but after 2-3 meetings a day, I was no good. Pre-surgery I read posts of people who took 3 weeks and thought, well, I probably won't need that. Oh, was I wrong! I would strongly urge you, based on my experience now, to take at least 2 weeks off if you can. I too have thyroid issues, but it's controlled with meds.

    3 day of surgery. ..

Did you ask for something for the nausea? I did, and it really helped. Hang in there, first few days are no fun but soon, you will be up and about!

    Crappy A#% Friends

This. Sometimes people just don't know what we need, but if she's a good friend, its okay to ask for what you need.
  22. If I were being honest I'd have to say because I am a perfectionist who demands a lot from myself Bad reason right? You are correct. I may have to accept once again, that I am not in fact, super woman. Dang. I'm doing at least 1 G-2 a day. I love that stuff.
  23. I am taking the b-12. My poor husband is doing a lot. In fairness, I did a lot more our first week because I was doing great then, and he was doing as you would expect someome who had just had major surgery to do! Thank god I didn't gloat then because karma would have slapped me now!
