Soup: its a liquid, its a solid, how do i eat it?
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually tomorrow I will post a recipe for a soup that had hot and sour flavor...but nothing but egg in it that you can have on full liquids. We were dying for some so decided to try and it worked out quite well. -
Soup: its a liquid, its a solid, how do i eat it?

Oh wow, I'm glad you told me! I'd have been washing my food out and then wondering why I was hungry. There is so much to learn! I read all the time but somehow still manage to miss things. Thank you! -
I had to laugh when I read your post because I DID try hypnosis. I thought it worked too but on the way home from that session' date=' I stopped at a local pie shop & had a piece of pie...soooooo I might have well set a match to that 50 I spent on hypnosis! LOL! [/quote'] Which was my problem with WW. Apart from the fact that I put ON 4 lbs the first week because it was more food than I was eating, all those people ever talked about in the meetings was food! I hadn't even thought about food all day but by the end of the meeting, listening to them talk about food, food, food, I wanted nothing more than an entire damn pizza! Somewhat counterproductive I'd say

Oh phew! You made me feel less stupid thank you! I was like, "this is NOT rocket science, you can figure this out". Cool! So as long as I don't use it as an excuse to eat again later or exceed my calories, I should be good. As much dang soup as I have had to eat over the last 5-6 weeks you'd think I'd never want soup again, but I love soup -

Stalls: Just because I get it doesn't mean I have to like it
gamergirl commented on gamergirl's blog entry in Gamergirl's Blog
I'm also not losing inches right now which makes it tougher. But I've only measured bust, waist, hips and bra band. I'm sure if I'd gone the whole hog, maybe I'd see an inch off my thighs or something. It's a mind-set issue and an emotional hardiness that I have to develop, to overcome my years of traumatic experiences with not losing. -
So many people here have skinny faces!

I'm always an hourglass. The amount of sand in it changes and sometimes it's a bigger one, sometimes a bit smaller. But I do lately put on weight on my tummy so it's hourglass from the front and a busted-up hourglass from the side -

Oh I totally stole that one from you! I loved that one. I'm hoping people have others. In some of the other threads, people have posted links to other member's posts but I can't find them. -

This is an interesting article that appropriately explains our initial "weight loss"...don't get discouraged when you read that we didn't really lose fat initially. http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/the-real-reason-diets-fail-and-what-you-can-do-about-it/ -

Added two more. Anyone else? Anyone? anyone? Bueller? -
Our surgeon said initially, when the stomach is still healing, it would likely be 3 meals plus 2 snacks. But by 6 months, they want you at 3 meals because by then, you should be holding more in your tummy at each meal.

Try not to throw out the Old just because we're New now...
gamergirl posted a blog entry in Gamergirl's Blog
I feel like a different part of my brain has been activated over the last few weeks. Look at how much we all have to learn to prepare for this surgery. When was the last time you used the words "pyloric valve" in polite conversation, on a regular basis? Eight weeks ago, I didn't realize I would be a "sleever", a "post-op" a "full liquids" stage. I was just me, loving life, my job, my husband, my kids, and reading Sci-Fi if I wanted to learn new words (China Mieville, anyone?) Unfortunately, today I also know things like "sliders", "pre-op cheating", "slow loser", "stall", "head hunger", "weight re-gain", "falling off the wagon". And now, these words I've never used before have become imbued with emotions, with meaning--and another way to judge myself and others. Now these words are emotion-laden, and I have to work to make them rational. Now, if I'm not careful, I will categorize myself by these words and find another way in which I could be seen to have failed. For someone who is as motivated as am I by the fear of failure, now these can be new weapons. Unless I refuse to let that happen. Unless I say to myself and those around me, that everyday that I stick to the plan is a successful day. That everyday I veer off the plan is an opportunity presented to me to triumph the next day. That this is my new life, and I intend to live it, enjoy it, succeed at it, and let the Universe unfold the way it should. So I will try not to throw out the old, happy life I had, and live instead by one where I can succeed or fail daily based on an outcome I may not be able to control--like when I stall, or what I lose. I can only control what I do, and that part, I know how to live by that.- 6 comments

7 weeks out and still feeling sick

Not fruits only. And I wasn't just juicing, I was vitamixing which keeps all the Fiber intact which should help with keeping blood sugar down. The vitamix allegedly breaks down the cell walls of the veggies making the nutrients more bio available. So I would put a cup of berries (low sugar) and at least 2-3 cups of greens and veggies and that would make two shakes. We did 2-3 of those a day. I did buy a juicer and the first veg/fruit juice we made made me sick with the sugar content so I knew that wasn't going to work. But I was sure the vitamix would be just fine with all the fiber. I think the issue is the sheer quantity one is able to consume with juicing/blending. Think of half a cup of berries and 2 cups of vegetables. If they weren't juiced, could you eat them in one sitting? No way, right? Well when juiced, you ARE eating that much at a time. I honestly believe that's the problem. Oh and that's in addition to your regular food. One begins to see the problem, right?
-
I don't know how carb/sugar sensitive you are but we tried juicing/green shakes before surgery and while it seemed very healthy, both my husband and I had 20 point increases in our blood sugar after 2 months of it! There is a LOT of sugar in juices and you will exceed your carbs I suspect, and increase your insulin release which hinders weight loss. Honestly I'd stay away from them. But that's just my experience which is hard to reconcile with the whole juicing craze. I will tell you, NO one at the doctors office was surprised by our blood sugar results. They said they see it all the time.
