how does this play out?
gamergirl replied to scootergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a long-term sleever, same tenure as you, but I think it's normal to feel somewhat hungry. I mean, we're eating barely anything, your body is going to crave nourishment. At first I clearly had head hunger because I was literally daydreaming about food, sandwiches, rice, gooey cheese, chicken kebabs etc. I stuck with the shakes. Now hunger for me isn't about food tastes, it's about getting light-headed, shaky, weak, and knowing I NEED to eat. I ask myself if I could drink a Protein shake. If the answer to that is yes, then I'm pretty sure it's real hunger because I am quite heartily sick of Protein Shakes But this seems to be a more "normal" hunger to me, which is our bodies saying "feed me or I will keel over" rather than "hmmm...what sounds yummy to eat"? Again, I could be totally wrong, but it'd be weird if we had no need/signal for nourishment at all, right? -

Men can be babies? Men are like children? If someone said this about women we'd be outraged and call them sexist. Just sayin'. -

Help! 2 weeks post op full liquid
gamergirl replied to krissyd143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I posted 3-4 protein heavy soups on my blog here that can be done for full liquids. All are easy to fix and very flavorful, and are a nice change from protein drinks. Worth trying maybe. -

I got this from the "Eating well after weight loss surgery" book. I've modified for my usual shortcuts http://www.amazon.co...t loss surgery Ingredients 1 cup cauliflower steamed in microwave for 5 minutes until very soft Cooking Spray 1/4 c onion chopped 1 tsp chopped garlic 1 oz low fat ham (I used a little bacon) 1/4 tsp lemon pepper 1 bottle clam juice 1 c evaporated fat free milk 1/2 Lb shrimp shelled, cleaned deveined salt Pepper ( I added paprika) Directions 1. Spray large saucepan with cooking spray and cook onions, garlic & ham/bacon until soft and brown 2. Add lemon pepper, clam juice, evaporated milk, cauliflower and shrimp and let it come to a boil, stirring often. Cook until shrimp are pink. 3. Add salt, pepper, paprika. 4. Puree in vitamix or blender. SOOO yummy! Tastes like a creamy bisque with potatoes, thanks to the cauliflower. Serves 4 Calories: 130 Protein: 22 gms (!!) Fat: 1.3 gms Carbs: 11 gms

Modified from Bee Yinn Low's Easy Chinese Recipes. Ingredients 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth 1 Tbsp soy sauce 1 Tbsp Chinese black vinegar 1.5 Tbsp Chinese Rice Vinegar 1/4 tsp salt 2 Tbsp corn starch 3 Tbsp Water 1/2 Tbs Chili Oil 4 Large eggs, beaten lightly Method 1. Mix and heat broth, sauces and vinegars. 2. In a small bowl, mix the corn starch and vinegars 3. When broth is boiling, slowly incorporate the cornstarch mix. Keep stirring and let it boil for a while to thicken the broth 4. Slowly pour in the eggs. Mix three times around with chopsticks. Turn off the flame, cover the pot and let the eggs cook slowly in the broth. Note: to increase the protein content, I really think you could put in some extra-silken soft tofu in there. It's a lot more "liquid" than yogurt, or jello, and should go down easy. If you want, put about 2-3 oz of soft tofu before adding the eggs. Makes 5-6 cups.

My take on is that 70% of the people lost ALL the weight they should have. About 30% didn't lose all of it, but even they lost more than half their excess weight. And they all had fewer comorbidities, and none of them gained enough to need the DS. Also that if your band fails, you might should consider RNY not the sleeve. Good news, good news I think. I'd take 70-30 odds and the worst cast being I only lost 60% of my excess weight.

Autoimmune Issues and VSG?
gamergirl replied to Tjohnson322's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thing is, I'm not in any pain. I really wish I didn't have to go back on them. But with those blood results, I'm sure they will put me back on everything all over again. That's the depressing part. I think I am supposed to start them either this week or the next. -
Quite common I think. The articles referenced here might help. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/91424-this-is-a-public-service-announcement-concerning-stalls-plateaus/page__hl__%2Bpublic+%2Bservice

Why am I ashamed that I had to have WLS?
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I a This is where I am at as well. I want to separate the decision to share or not, from not sharing because I'm ashamed of it. Work in progress This thread has been very helpful. First, I had to admit that I had a big mental problem. Second, I saw that I was not the only one, and that many of us struggle. Third, I saw that some people had overcome it. And Fourth, I saw where I want to be, which is on the healthy side of this struggle. I hadn't realized how much feelings of shame and failure had colored my life because I don't typically associate those words with me. Having to acknowledge that was a huge, huge task. Doing it in front of people on a forum? Priceless -
I read something about hormones being stored in fat, primarily estrogen. As we release fat, those hormones start rampaging! I'm 3 weeks post-op and have been blue for the last couple of days too. I suggest you cry when you want to, and read a mindless book or watch stupid TV or get out of the house to distract yourself. That's what's been working for me the last few days.

I believe it's quite common. Lack of carbs, lack of calories, no caffeine, surgery ahead, I think it's totally normal. ((hugs))

gamergirl replied to Heather Meyer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope I wasn't harsh, but maybe I was, if so I apologize. I am sure I will have failures too, this appears to be a lifelong thing, and who amongst us is perfect? I do hope that I get both support and good advice when I come here.
