  1. My husband and I notice the nuances in each other's weight loss a lot. We are each others biggest fan club on the "omg! You've lost so much babe!" Side of things. I mean we see each other naked, he is MORE aware of all my changes than anyone who sees me with my clothes on. I went to visit clients this week and I wore the same types of clothes as before. Aways black pants, a blouse and a loose, flowing black jacket. Couldn't even have told what I lost where. OTOH with my husband, I'm always showing him the extra space at the waist band of the same pants, and we both love pulling our pants off without even unbuttoning. It never gets old at our house I put my arms around him and notice them going all the way around him now. Our hugs seem closer. He feels my waist and it feels different to both of us. He tells me by boobs are more noticeable now that the tummy is going down. His shirts are loose and I have to wonder how long before his pants fall down and flash us all. Believe your husband. He sees it up close and in high definition. And with interest and love. It's a good lens to view you through and more observant than strangers typically are.

    Changing my mindset...

There was a really nice discussion somewhere where butterthebean talked about abstainers and moderators and that people were different in this regard. Some of us can moderate, others have to abstain so as to not get triggered. I don't yet know which one i am, but I hope to never get triggered by sugar like I used to pre-sleeve.
  3. This may be a stupid question but surely crab cakes are not slider foods are they? Or are they? Seems to me like Protein esp since these have lump crab meat and very little breading holding them together. But I ask because I ate an entire one and could have had the second one. In contrast I was only able to eat 1.5 oz of cheese for lunch on the plane.
  4. I must take up this Scottish/red hair issue with my family who has been passing themselves off as Indians all these years
  5. It's definitely not mushy. It was not easy for me on day 2 of soft foods, but it got me ready for other soft foods. It's the same consistency as Breakfast sausage if you ask me.
  6. OMG my husband just made the best chicken bratwurst from scratch! If you can't tolerate pork or can't eat it for religious reasons, here's one to try. Made from The Mixer Bible, mine is a simplified version with no casing, no second grinding etc. Ingredient 2.5 lbs of boneless chicken thighs ground fine at home, or make it easy on yourself and ask the butcher to grind it very fine for you 1/2 c half n half or milk (see note)sp 2.5 tsp Salt 1 tsp ground caraway seeds 1/2 tsp ground pepper 1/2 tsp ground allspice Pinch ground nutmeg Method 1. Grind chicken fine. Messy! get the butcher to do this for you or just buy ground chicken. If done at home, freeze the chicken so it grinds easily 2. Add everything else and let it sit in the fridge for half an hour to meld 3. Oil your hands well, and make 3 oz patties 4. Can freeze individually at this point, or cook in a nonstick pan with a little oil about 2 mins on each side. cut into the middle to see if cooked through 5. Refrigerate extra for up to 2 days in the fridge or 2 weeks in the freezer. We're going to cook them all, and then nuke slowly when we want one. Note: the recipe called for 1/2 c of milk but we were out and I'm lactose intolerant and really, half n half makes it softer and smoother. Sorry for the cheesy paper plate but no one wants to do dishes right now! Makes 12 servings of 3 oz each, about 21 gms of Protein each.
  7. Stay away from the methadone. Gut through the pain but don't touch that. Seriously. I used to work with drug addicts who were on methadone to help w withdrawal. They all said quitting it was harder than quitting the heroine. It's not a mental addiction but a physical one that is the pits. The addicts used to get 150-250 etc doses. I was on a 20 dose, and I had to sign a paper saying I wouldn't try to quit it on my own. I was only on it for 2 months but I warned not to go off even after a week. They have to taper you off it and that takes forever! Can only cut dose in half each week, etc type if nonsense. Honestly I quit pain meds with the surgery after 2 days and for what they did for me, OTC could have done the same. Morphine for me was a non-starter because it doesn't even touch the pain. I'd do that before the methadone if I were you. But first try nothing.
  8. Hmmm I feel no relief with many drugs that help people, such as morphine and codeine. Tramadol also does nothing. Aleve is a joke. This runs in my family. My mom and my son and I are all alike in this. But oddly, 2 extra strength Tylenol do more for me than any of those drugs, and without making me high. I hate feeling high. So I did find something that worked but it was nothing fancy. Now when I was in so much pain that I was bed ridden, they made me take methadone. I was only on it in small doses for 2 months and it made a HUGE difference to the pain, but the detox from it? Horrible. I'd have been better off being a heroin addict than detoxing from methadone! With heroin, I understand the withdrawal is really bad for 3 days and then at least physically you're done. Methadone took 6 weeks of pacing the halls all night long. Long-winded way of saying yeah they might find something that works for you, but beware the poisoned apple.

    Evening Primrose Oil

Much to my surprise, even with a 20 lb loss when I saw my PCP my dosage did get reduced. Wondering how low the dosage will go before its all over . It was a pleasant, and unexpected surprise.

Interestingly even at a TSH of 1, I lose hair. Not huge heaps like before meds, but slowly and consistently. The EPO stops it. I don't know why I lose it when the TSH is adjusted but I do. Weird.

    Crab cakes as sliders?

Okay I know what happened. I'm posting my learning to share with you guys. I ordered a crab cake again tonight and felt the restriction after 2 oz. You want to know the difference? Two words. Mindful eating. It was driving me nuts so I thought about what happened yesterday. How could I feel the restriction with everything except crab cakes?? Yesterday I ate while on the phone, as I was presenting to 2 clients during a 2-hour meeting. I didn't think I was doing this, but I suspect I ate little bites and continued potentially for well over an hour in little bits and bobs. In retrospect, I could only eat while they were asking questions, so it had to have been spread out. Tonight I went out for dinner, took small bits, chewed carefully, but paid attention to the food, even though we were chatting. And stopped 20 mins into it because I felt the restriction. My doctor's orders were clear. Eat for 30 mins then stop. Do not graze. Everyone on this forum said, do not graze. Welp, apparently I grazed. Who knew? Yet another habit to change that I took for granted. Can not try to eat lunch while on a phone meeting where you are the lead presenter.
  13. I've read so much about fish oil and krill oil reducing joint inflammation. My CRP levels stay the same no matter how much of it I take and the pain used to be the same. Apart from serious meds, the only thing that has helped them is no sugar, no simple carbs. But I know this isn't everyone's experience. A LOT of people report relief with fish oil.

    Changing my mindset...

I did that twice today. Walked into a restaurant for Breakfast asked for coffee with my breakfast. Umm. I can't eat and drink. Wasted the coffee. Went to see a client, got a coffee. Out of habit. Wasted that one too! Apparently we all have these habitual food getting behaviors that we aren't even aware of, until you can no longer do it. Eye opening for me.

    Changing my mindset...

I too am struggling with this since I started real food post op. I'm really not eating that much but after everyone saying they could barely eat, and the doc saying don't eat more than 1/4 cup etc., every time I eat more than 3 bites I feel Ike maybe I am eating too much. It is utterly ridiculous and intellectually I know it It's just that I don't trust my body to do what's right for it and tell me when to stop. So I'm still worrying just like I did before.
  16. Per Wikipedia:As of 2012, Crisco consists of a blend of soybean oil, fully hydrogenated palm oil, and partially hydrogenated palm and soybean oils.
