    5K 5 week post op ?

Ah yes. I would think that would make a difference. You may well have the physical conditioning to do it. Good for you! However I will say that my tummy is still sensitive when jostled about, even on road bumps while driving. So there's that to consider with the running. Secondly, would you have to train for it immediately after the surgery? Because that too could be tough and in fact, I'd say that my PCP was adamant that this had been major stomach surgery and there was to be no jostling and sit ups, etc. We were told it was okay to walk for the first 6 weeks. But it may be good to ask the doctor and see what s/he says.

This is why im doing it

That's funny to hear you say that. For the longest time, I told myself that, because I was told you had to have 100 lbs extra to lose and I didn't have that much. I had no co-morbidities that could be taken into account. Finally of course, I put on enough to have 90 lbs to lose, but each time someone said to me that I didn't weigh enough, I'd think to myself "Just tell me how much I have to put on, because I sure as heck can!" Despite that, when I had 90 lbs to lose, I was fairly well horrified. Because now, I DID have enough to quality for WLS. It was a horrible realization. And of course, I am surrounded by loving, supportive people so not ONE person said to me "Oh you don't need the surgery!" and perversely, I really wanted at least one of my friends to go, "you don't weigh enough". No one did. (Wondering whether to put happy face here or sad face?) I feel for cute chunky girl. I was fortunate enough to not be able to eat 4 slices of pizza and cake even before surgery but the struggle is still the same, even if all you're trying to avoid is a second slice of pizza.

    5K 5 week post op ?

Possible? I dunno, I am 5 weeks now and on a good day I can get through the day well and accomplish my daily chores. Advisable? We were told no strenuous exercising until 6 weeks. Honestly it seems quite ambitious.
  4. it's sleevers.wordpress.com. Enjoy!
  5. My blog has some recipes for high protein soups that are savory, and make a nice change from over-sweet protein shakes. Something like that may be worth trying. I didn't have a purée phase but it was three weeks before we were allowed any soft foods. Until then it was only clear and full liquids.
  6. I had a period early on in life when I miscarried at 4 months. The weight gain and loss caused huge eye changes. The doctor told me that people don't think about weight loss causing visual changes but in fact it does due to fat around the eyes (ewww!) . Last time I lost weight my eyes changed then too. I would delay the LASIK. I know I was an exception but my LASIK was extremely painful and it was days I'd great discomfort. On the off chance that happens to you, you may not want to combine it with VSG recovery. Oh and I still wear glasses after the LASIK much better than before though

How many calories do you get in a day?

Amy you're losing faster than I am so maybe you're not as slow as you think

    Pre- pre-op diet

When you do pre-op, here are some of the things you will be giving up, many of which you wont pick up immediately post-op either. If you can start to transition off them slowly, it might help. 1. No caffeine 2. No sugar 3. Hardly any carbs 4. Much fewer calories than now 5. Protein shakes introduced daily I gave up sugar one week. The next week I transitioned to fewer cups of coffee, and I substituted one meal with a shake. I cut calories to 1000-1200. Even so, the pre-op kicked my behind for the first four days. I'd suggest you not start too far in advance. Knowing you're only doing this for a short time might help keep you on path because these aren't easy changes, and if you're hungry a lot, it's harder to sustain for long periods. Glad you're thinking and planning ahead! Good for you.
  9. I wanted to thank all of you who posted. I got some great ideas, and it also forced me to look at the protein content of what I was eating. One thing that amazes me about this surgery is how quickly things change post-op. Day 2 you can barely drink, day 5 you're getting in all your proteins and liquids! Last week I couldn't get in all my protein through food, now I'm down to only one shake a day. I realized that eggs were really filling me up but each only had 6 gms of protein. In contrast, I can eat 4 oz of cottage cheese or a small container of Greek yogurt for between 10-14 gms of protein, and so I added one each of those a day. I now drink my coffee shake in the morning, but the rest of the protein is coming from real food. So thank you all for taking the time to help me!

    Vegetarians?

There are several vegetarians on here. I get most of my Protein via a coffee shake, cheese, cottage cheese, and yogurt. Over time as my stomach expands, I expect to add more Beans to my diet. I do eat 2-3 oz of meat once or twice a day but it's not the biggest source of protein for me. Occasionally I have an egg but that only has 6 gms of protein and really fills me up. In contrast, 4 oz of cottage cheese has 12 gms and doesn't stuff me as full as an egg. Okay OP, I say this with love and caring for you. I agree with the previous poster who suggested talking to a therapist. I've seen several of your posts expressing regret, and the fact is, you've had an irreversible procedure. You can't change that, and you may need some help accepting your decision and moving forward. Post-op depression is common. Many of us have varying degrees of it, it's not a sign of weakness. More likely hormones and chemicals are out of whack somewhere. Be good to yourself and maybe see if you can find someone to talk to? Sending you hugs.
  11. I've seen some amazing before and after pictures but this one is in the top 10. Huge change! Congratulations!
  12. I've seen a difference daily with water intake. I'm about 5 weeks out and can take much larger gulps today than I could last week. At 2 days I could only take the tiniest of sips and even that hurt.

    Puree Suggestions

What great ideas! Thanks for posting.
  14. I agree with beach lover. I read a LOT here and I still have questions I keep asking. It is a bit...a Frustrating...when people complain about an after effect of the surgery that makes them wish they hadn't had the surgery--when a little reading would have shown them that it happens. So I'd recommend you use the time to educate yourself well on the good, the bad, and the ugly on the surgery.
  15. You know what? I SO want a bento box! Pre surgery I looked at them and thought ones that help half a cup were too little. But they're the perfect size now aren't they? it may be bento box time for me. They're so cute.

Am I just playing w semantics?

Personally I don't think it's "just" semantics either. What we say out loud determines how we feel in time. I was very excited about the surgery and saw it as a new beginning, and a very exciting time. Fighting my weight was a battle. I hoped this would be the start of a wonderful new adventure in my life.
  17. No mine was Oh Yeah. Aka snickers bar in disguise.
  18. Hi there! I had just posted my personal quota's for kennedy so pasting again: I'm trying to do the following: 800 calories, 80 gms of carbs. That amounts to 40% of my total calories. The rest of the calories, I try to split evenly between carbs and Fats. That give me P/C/F of 80 gms/60gms/27gms fat. I almost always hit the protein, almost never hit the carbs. I will add that i also try to limit sugar to 20 right now, but that's an old left over habit from the old days, not sure whether or not I need to do that. Eventually I'd like to hit 25 gms Fiber either via food or supplementing.

  20. oh man! I hope you are right! I mean, it COULD happen. I'm ready!
  21. I scarfed mine in 5 mins flat. NO restriction. i was rushing to get to a meeting and i couldn't even barely tell when I started and when I finished.
  22. you are a lot more patient than I am (although who isn't?) I would be calling them until they responded. Glad you got some liquid down though. Warm broth might work better than cold, or vice versa. Temperature makes a difference for some folks.
