Mfp settings for carbs protein and fat please...
gamergirl replied to Bombs's topic in Food and Nutrition
I have mine as P/F/C at 40/40/20 due to being a carb addict. I think I remember the thread you're referring to and believe Butter has his at the same levels for the same reasons. hth -
Reel me in, sleevers
gamergirl replied to sleevethefatbehind's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Actually I don't think the results support your assertion that they are setting themselves up for failure. The success rates for lap bands are much higher than the success rates for those choosing to lose weight without any form of WLS. About 90% of those who try to lose weight without WLS gain it back. The numbers are probably less than half that for banders, and that's not that different for sleevers. By the large, research indicates that the sleeve and RNY have equal rates of long-term success, and the banders follow very closely behind. The differences that are found are more statistically different than that they are behaviorally different. -
What my husband says about me & my sleeve
gamergirl replied to McButterpants's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Awwww I'm so glad you have this man in your life! Ain't life grand? I read many similarities in your story and ours (long distance, fell in love before we met, etc). I love seeing these positive stories and you are dead on, our families go through this just as much as we do. My husband was sleeved with me but all my talking about stalls, calories, stalls, foods, stalls, etc still drive him a bit batty -
What new habits are you trying to build?
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think if I could embrace this wholeheartedly, it would increase my feelings of success. I was only steps away from contracting several "lifestyle diseases" and I'm sure I've reduced my propensity for those. Unlike my husband however, who was able to come off the meds and see visible success in that regard, prevention is less visible and as a result, I think I downplay that achievement in my head sometimes. -
Post-Surgery Brain Fog? Get your estrogen tested
gamergirl posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I've posted here before about having some amount of brain fog and having trouble concentrating and that even at 4-5 months out, this is continuing. That's very unusual for me, I'm typically hyper-focused. These days however, there are times when I have the attention span of a gnat. It's been a bit worrying for sure. Went to see the doctor today as a follow-up to blood tests. We were reviewing my blood work and she asked me if I was having trouble concentrating and focusing. Um...yeah. Apparently when we lose weight, at first our fat cells release estrogen so we're all weepy and emotional, but eventually, we do not produce ENOUGH estrogen. Thinner bodies need more estrogen to be created and our sometimes our bodies don't create enough, I was told. (not that I'm thin yet, but you get my point). Add to it 47-year old female and she said it was classic symptoms of low estrogen which is what's showing in my blood tests too. She says this is true of men as well, which is why I'm posting this in the general forum rather than the powder Room. I don't know how it's treated for men, but for me, I have to use a compounded cream twice a day on my inner arm where the skin is thin, and it can be absorbed directly. She herself had RNY 10 years ago, lost 150 lbs and has kept it off for 10 years. She said she had it so bad she had to drop out of her doctoral program for a semester under her hormones were back in balance. I suspect that early on, simply recovering from surgery will give you brain fog as you heal. But if it's continuing on for several months after surgery maybe worth getting tested for? Anyway, just thought I'd share what I learned. -
If you search fav protein bars I think you'll find several threads. But from what I remember, many of us use quest, pure protein and oh yeah! as favorites. There are likely many others too that I can't recall

If you're not peeing enough, you are still dehydrated is my guess. Are you peeing enough throughout the day do you think?

Post-Surgery Brain Fog? Get your estrogen tested
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've gone from reading 2-3 books a week to reading 2-3 pages a day. Very frustrating. I've been an avid reader since I was a child, and for the first time in my life, I can't stay focused long enough to read. Terrible. Hoping this solves that problem. and I would love to read your stories if you share them -
Yeah one of the ladies who was sleeved same day as me had hernia repair too and you're right, it makes recovery a bit tougher doesn't it? Hang in there, it gets easier every day.
-
Have your tried warm liquids? My sleeve has always tolerated warm liquids better than cold ones. May be worth a try?
-
Hope everything is all right today.
-
Do you mean veggie recipes to go with your protein? Or complex carbs?
-
Not to side-track this very worthwhile thread, but on my FB page today, I posted resolutions that I think A person might could actually keep so I thought I'd share them here too I will come back with more serious ones later.

No Stalls here and the answer for me is simple Carbs NOT!
gamergirl replied to tonydepalma's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Tony glad it's going well. FYI, I also do low carb (around 40-50 gms) but I have stalled a lot. In five months, I've had five stalls of 12-17 days each, and that's not even counting times like now when I've been at the same weight for the last 5 days. I stall for half the time and lose the other half of the time, despite the low carbs and no simple carbs. What carbs I eat come from shakes and vegetables, not even fruit as a rule. So while I know low carb is fantastic for my body, it's not a guarantee against stalls is all I am saying. But I do agree, low fat is BS. -
I got food-policed at 7.5 months out :(
gamergirl replied to mistysj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I like this guy! Well, there goes the rubber hamburger rib. Itching powder? I like him too! It may be one of those endearingly annoying things that our spouses do that we just roll our eyes about and move on without worrying about it too much. I dunno. -
Best body fat calculator I've found so far
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know that we can assume that, but of my 55 lbs, only 5 has been lean mass. But I'm not exercising as much as you are, and not doing any cardio so YMMV but by and large, for estimation purposes, I would assume 99.9% of initial weight loss is likely fat. God knows I had enough of it to lose! -
Best body fat calculator I've found so far
gamergirl posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So many people don't know their body fat percentage. I've been using a scale that is quite reliable, but I also found a calculator that seems to return the same results as the scale, so I thought I'd link to it. It also was very reliable for my son and my husband so there we are! Here we go: http://www.superskinnyme.com/body-fat-calculator.html -
Can anyone recommend a gummy multivitamin?
gamergirl replied to CrissyRing77's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I hate hate hate swallowing pills. I'm that person that has to throw their head back dramatically just to get them to go down my throat, and I look like I'm about to choke or puke anyway. I have 2-3 meds and some supplements that don't come in chewables, so I have to take those as pills. If I have to add a big honking Vitamin pill to it, I just won't take it. These, I look forward to taking and I figure they're a lot better for you if you take them than if you leave them in the bottle It's also a bit of a treat. These plus b12at first, and sugar free Fiber gummies plus sugar free calcium chews, like a little dessert at night. -
I'm having a bit of a tough time
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you're right Lynda. I'm also overthinking it and not eating enough. May just need it listen to my hunger signals again and eat sleeve friendly foods when hungry, and just not worry about it for a few days. My Christmas present to myself maybe -

Can anyone recommend a gummy multivitamin?
gamergirl replied to CrissyRing77's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks I was just at costco looking at those which one(there were a few kinds there)? Also did you get sugar free? How many do you take/day? I'm not a fan of the chewy ones either I do already have to take those as my calcium citrate. I have been having tummy issues and have not been taking them for weeks (which my doc knows) but I am not feeling well(possible mono) and need to get my body as healthy as possible. I used to take two a day of these: http://www.nnpvitamins.com/vitafusion/womens-vitamins.php Just switched over to the GNCs -
*Gastric sleeve diet* (without surgery)
gamergirl replied to Maccurdyerica's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine." Just out of curiosity, I have to ask. With all the millions of diet sites in the world, why did you choose to come to a gastric sleeve site and ask about a diet to be followed for people who don't have a sleeve? -
