    Autoimmune Issues and VSG?

I know that feeling. I know you've been tired since you went back to the school year and the kids had you all worn out. Sure hope they find a good way to get you less tired. ((Hugs))

Sorry to hear about your fatigue. How quickly did you lose the 100 lbs? Congratulations on that!

    Halloween Weight loss Challenge

I have a question. When you join these challenges, what do you do differently? I feel like I am doing everything I am supposed to, and I will either lose something by Halloween or not, but it's not in my control. Sorry if I sound stupid, but I very much want to join a challenge of some sort. I recently hurt my back and am hobbling even to walk so I can't join a mini fitness challenge, and these seem to be the only other ones...but I don't know what to do to be successful at it?
  4. I googled this and there are SO many low carb-ers complaining about it. At least we're not alone. Although I still want to know WHY. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Not eating enough

Fred why don't you try supplementing with 1-2 Protein shakes or high-protein Soups for a while, until you can eat more?
  6. Many of us had "weepy times" a week or two into it. I think it's a combination of exhaustion, adjustment, estrogen, exhaustion and more exhaustion, thirst, hunger, discomfort...there's a lot going on. I had it on and off for a couple of weeks. I "fixed" it by accepting it was normal, warning my loved ones that I was struggling but simply because of hormones, and waited for it to pass. And it did indeed pass. It is quite normal, based on others' stories and it does pass. Just gotta gut it out and accept it. ((Hugs))

    To much protein?

My PCP and a good friend who is a a physician said similar things, and also spoke of kidney stones which sound like hell on earth. Protein is hard on our kidneys. Hence all the Water we're admonished to drink. I suspect that in this, as in other things, moderation is our friend. Going over an odd day here I there won't hurt, but going over all the time is probably not good. Not to mention that if you go over, you're either exceeding calories, or not getting in enough fat or carbs, which pose other serious problems.
  8. This will sound weird but I fell in love with my husband before I met him in person. Tons of phone calls, lots of emails, and we were both goners. I was terrified that the in-person chemistry wouldn't work out but of course it did. I never felt like I was settling for less. I felt lucky to have found such an amazing man and to have my love and admiration reciprocated. I dated a lot before I got married and never thought that I was "less than" because of my weight. I've loved him at much higher weights and now, he's thinner than I've ever seen him before and I still just adore him. His weight is a non-issue for me. He has seen me 25 lbs lighter, and 25 lbs heavier than I am now, and has never made me feel less loved. I think WLS is like every other challenge a couple faces together. Challenges seem to strengthen good relationship and bring people closer, and weaken shaky ones and tear them apart. I've been in both types of relationships and know how that goes. If it wasn't WLS for some of those couples, it might have been something else that either brought them closer or broke them up.

  10. My little tummy has yet to meet anything she hates. Fish, shrimp, lobster, crab, beef, yogurt, cheese, Beans, chicken, lentils...bring it all! I haven't tried bread, Pasta and sugar but feel pretty sure she'd gobble those up with delight if I let her. Always did say I had the constitution of an ox....

    Stressed out..

THIS. I've given upon thinking I can control my body. I'm 6 weeks out, down only 25 lbs including pre-op, doing everything by the book, and focusing on being grateful for the modest loss. I too feel like I monitor food all the time. But today I was traveling and wasn't able to obsess as much as I do. When I entered my food late this afternoon, realized that while my calories had been very low so far (only 250 by 3 pm), I still had chosen Protein and Water. So I have hope this will soon become second nature to us. And my husband is picking me up at the airport and taking me for appetizers so I will focus on that joy today. I truly believe it will get easier to monitor over time.
  14. I posted a review here on my experiences with Dr. Alvarez. Very, very positive experience. You should create a checklist of what factors you care about, and then evaluate doctors against it.

    Do you still get hungry?

I'm 6 weeks out and I definitely get hungry. But it's for real food, not something that tastes good, and once I eat a little, I'm not hungry anymore for the next 3 hours. So yes it's hunger, but not the sort of mad ravening hunger that made me feel like a wolf on the prowl for some hapless prey, like I used to get before surgery. Pre surgery i would sometimes get SO hungry that I'd eat something and then I'd still be hungry so I'd eat something ELSE. I don't have that right now. I guess I'll take it!
