Severe back pain
gamergirl replied to soyfpine0405's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah I've been hobbling for a week. I have no idea why it suddenly decided to go out. I have read people say that as we lose weight, and our center of gravity shifts, until our bodies get used to it there will be some achy joints and limbs. I don't know if this is it or I'm just getting old faster than I should but sprained for a week. If you feel anything that is sharp or migrating or non-sprain-like I'd worry but sprain, I dunno, seems normal. Anyone else? -
When is a goal too excessive?
gamergirl replied to Fit2btied's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I do have questions about the goal weight too. I randomly picked something. But the BMI range for me is 115-165, since I'm 5'6. I've been 115--but I was 20 years old then! I didn't look too skinny, I looked just fine. I just can't imagine me, at 47, being able to get back to what I weighed before kids and just general living, to my weight when I was 20! Is that even reasonable or achievable? Do people achieve that? -

What kind of pain? Sprain like or piercing shooting pain? -

i pray and hope that I will have a horrible reaction to cake which I LOVE (If I'm ever dying in front of your eyes, please offer me some and watch me come back to life) but my sleeve appears to be super-accommodating and doesn't seem to mind anything! dang it. Except maybe cake if I'm lucky and ever desperate enough to try it? -

Do you have an eating disorder?
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Actually I have to agree, I never thought I had an eating disorder. I don't binge, I don't hide my eating, I don't vomit, use laxatives, etc. My idea of a binge was TWO, count them TWO pieces of cake in ONE day! I felt bad when i ate THREE pieces of thin crust, half cheese, veggie pizza. Even pre-sleeve, people loved going out to eat with me because they got to eat half my food plus I don't drink so I was a cheap date even then. I monitored calories carefully but because of a completely jacked-up metabolism, ruined with all kinds of starvation for years, inflammatory diseases that keep you from losing weight, an under-active thyroid, medications, genetics etc. nothing was working to lose weight. So I agree, not all of us have eating disorders. We may well however have metabolic disorders. I will also add that I DO have a very unhealthy relationship with food. I love tastes, smells, cooking for people etc. But I have an unhealthy relationship with food because while loving it, I also hate it. I think of it as "that which makes me fat", rather than "that which fuels me". It has been a source of great pleasure and companionship (when feeding others), but great sorrow and guilt (when my ass keeps getting bigger). My colleagues this week said they'd have a tough time with the surgery because they would miss food. I don't miss food. I'm glad that b*tch is out of my life unless I need her to fuel me. So ummm..yeah, that's a problem -
Stalls were no big deal...'til I had one :-)
gamergirl replied to jensjoy28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I can SO relate! I thought all those complaining about it were "whiners" who were "panicking" for "no reason"! Didn't they read all the millions of posts?! What made THEM so special?! What a humbling experience. I was a whiner who panicked with very good reason it seemed to me, and I hated it! And I was SURE i was special and was going to get rich because i would be a medical marvel whom everyone would pay to study--the woman who got sleeved, did everything right and still couldn't lost weight! I would be rich--but very fat still. I take back all my impatience, all my irritation, and all my not-so-charitable thoughts. It's all fun and games...until it happens to you. -

4 months out and falling off wagon
gamergirl replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not making excuses for the blunt postings but one of the offending posters is 23 years old. I haven't bothered to check on the ages of the other offensive posters, whom no one has picked on, but I know I did some stupid sh/t at 23, so I'm willing to chalk it up to inexperience rather than sheer malice. Life does seem somewhat black and white at that age, no? Hugs to all, REALLY glad to be a part of this loving, giving community, and happy Monday!! -
what is so bad about regular cheese?
gamergirl replied to penman53's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The only fat-free food that I will consider is dairy because its the one instance where they don't ADD anything to accommodate for the lack of fat. Unlike in salad dressings etc where they add sugar to compensate for the lack of fat, in low fat cheese, all they've done is use skim or low fat milk. I think if you can stay within your calorie and fat requirements eat reg cheese. The fat does add up on our low cal diets though. I do a bit of both, full- and low fat cheeses. -
Some peopel were told that gummies need to stay in our stomachs longer than they do in sleeved stomachs to be properly absorbed. I've tried googling this and I can't find anything to support it. Ultimately I think Vitamins do no good if you don't take them some long as I keep taking the gummies, I think they're better for me than the pills I don't take

Dont know what to eat :(
gamergirl replied to moorecr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is what I am doing. 1. Start tracking everything you eat, in myfitness pal or some other app. 2. I am trying to eat between 600-700 calories every day with 80 gms of Protein 3. To get that much protein, i have to eat my protein first. 4. Limit carbs to 40 5. Limit fats to 27 6. Get 10 gms of Fiber a day from fiber gummies, benefiber, fruit, or vegetables. The only way to do this with a small stomach is to eat a lot of meat, cheese, egg, greek yogurt, fish, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, chicken, turkey etc. So maybe you should just think of simple ways to make eggs, chicken, ground beef, and baked fish, and then have the other things ready made (yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, skim milk, etc.). Ah cut yourself some slack. There are a lot of changes going on and if the two worst things you've done are not gone to the gym and are skipping your Vitamins...it could be worse. Are you eating junk? Are you grazing? Are you putting on weight? Are you getting your Protein and Water in? If you have the correct answers to those questions (3 noes and 2 yesses lol) then it's not the end of the world if your exercise happens outside of a gym Take the vitamins though. That's easy enough. I take gummies because I hate taking pills but I look forward to the gummies. Glad you're having fun and be careful.

post-op Ground Beef with Coconut Milk and Spinach High protein
gamergirl posted a topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Just posted a new recipe with pictures on my blog: http://sleevers.wordpress.com/2013/09/15/ground-beef-with-coconut-milk-and-spinach/ Yet another lazy ground beef curry. It’s my typical “dump everything into one pot and cook” type of recipe. I made it in a pressure cooker but will provide directions for stove-top as well. Ingredients Tempering Ingredients: 1-2 tsp ghee, coconut oil or fat of choice 1 tsp cumin seeds 2-in piece of cinnamon 4 whole black peppercorns 2-3 whole cloves 2-3 green cardomom pods Main dish 3 cloves garlic crushed 2-in piece of ginger chopped fine 1 large onion diced 1 lb ground meat of your choice ( I used ground beef) 1 can coconut milk 8 oz chopped baby spinach 2 tsp madras curry powder or store-bought curry powder (I will post recipe shortly) 1 tsp turmeric 1/2 tsp red cayenne pepper 2 tsp salt or less to taste Method 1. Heat ghee in pressure cooker until smoking lightly 2. Put in all the tempering ingredients and let them sizzle until you can smell the spices roasting, about 30 seconds 3. Add garlic and ginger and let them sizzle and flavor the oil. 4. Add remaining ingredients. 5. Set pressure cooker timer to high for 10 minutes. 6. Release pressure normally. 7. You may choose to add more spinach at the end. If cooking stovetop: 1. Heat ghee in sauce pan until smoking lightly 2. Put in all the tempering ingredients and let them sizzle until you can smell the spices roasting, about 30 seconds 3. Add garlic and ginger and let them sizzle and flavor the oil. 4. Add the onions and cook until soft. 5. Add remaining ingredients. 6. Cook on medium-low until the meat is cooked through, and the spinach wilts. 7. You may choose to add more spinach at the end. -
They do work as well, but I know my husband didn't want to chew anything at first. He only used one at a time and only needed them for the first few days.
